Around these parts, we like our gadgets. Unfortunately, accumulating a couple of them leaves us regularly in need of juice. Power outlets become scarce after stepping outside the house, which is why it's worth picking up an external battery pack or two. Currently you can get an Anker Astro E5 15,000mAh battery pack for $49.99 from Amazon, but with a coupon code, you can bring that down to $35.99.

This external battery comes with two USB ports (5V/2A and 5V/1A), so you can charge two devices at once. This could especially come in handy the next time the power goes out or two kids (for the sake of this example, ages 25 plus or minor 15 years) both throw a fit over dying devices in the backseat.

To get the discounted rate, just enter AASTROE5 at checkout. This should immediately knock $14.00 off the price. The link below will take you straight to the store.

I have this charger and it works great. I can charge my devices for multiple days before I have to recharge. Only issue I ever have is the 2A charger registers as USB on most android devices as I guess it is designed for Apple products.

    • patrik

The 1A is "designed" for the iPhone. The 2A is for pretty much everything else including androids with larger than normal batteries and tablets.

      • remister

Good to know. Any reason why they can't make both ports 2A?

        • Lookatthemonkeys

I think a lot of older phones will not charge correctly with 2A. I know the difference is because Apple uses a different pin layout on their chargers so most Anker products try to accommodate both.

      • Lookatthemonkeys

Yeah, not sure why my milage varies. Both my Nexus 5 and 7 read USB on the 2A. The only thing I could get to charge fill speed on the 2A is an iPad.

        • quick

Right? Same deal 2A slot gives "usb" on my N5, strange though another Samsung 2A charger works just fine (and charges super fast!) must be something voltage related or something..

    Not available in Canada.

I just bought it at amazon.ca for $49.99 CAD. I couldn't use the promotional code but oh well, still a decent deal.

      • HKT

$59.99 on amazon.ca as far as I can see, and yes - no working promo code either.

        • John

Oh crap, you're right. I bought the 13000mAh.

Looks like they are trying to clear the stock before Anker releases the Astro Gen2 version of this. I bought a Astro E4 13000mah for 36.99 price last November and they proceed to push out Gen 2 12000mah a few month later.

  • TylerChappell

Insta-buy for me. I have both a white Astro E4 for my mom with her white GS4, and a black Astro E4 for myself. Been waiting to get the E5 for a little while now, can't beat it at that price. The LED it comes with to be used for a flashlight made this device perfect already multiple times this past year when power went out unexpectedly for over 50 hours at my house in the winter months. Had both a light and a way to keep all our our phones charged. Everyone should have one of these.

    Avoid.

    1.5A input.

You need 2A as this monster big battery needs to be fed faster. Look out for 2A input USB or non-USB meatier input.

    • Indianajonze

why avoid? once you charge it, you don't need to worry about how long it takes to charge the battery. just use it all day and plug in at night...

  • Jeffrey Fazal

That’s really cool deal with 1500mAh battery to charge
the device while on the go or during camping across the countryside areas. Another
option could be a wireless car charger dock.

My cousin just bought one of these. She works from home and makes a whopping $5 a day. Now you can too. Visit five-a-day.com.
