Android L still has a few tricks up its sleeve – specifically, in the Status menu. If you go to the About section of settings and tap on Status, Android L allows you to copy any of the values listed there with a long-press. Neat.

This isn't a huge improvement, but it'll make it much easier to grab your IMEI, MAC, or serial number (it comes up occasionally). There are a few other bits of data in this menu, but they aren't as relevant. Whichever line you press is copied in full (no selection handles). Oddly, this only works on the Status screen right now – not even on the About screen where the kernel and build info are. Maybe that will change by the time L is finished. It would be nice to copy text from any settings screen.

It was always odd to me that pressing these lights up the row, yet you can do nothing about it. Hope they can apply this feature in as many places as possible.

What would be the usage for this?

    • catiremedina

it allows you to easily copy IP adress, IMEI, MAC. Sometimes they are useful and its always a pain to copy them manualy. Like to set up things in your router like static IP for your devices.

well... for example you could use pushbullet to push the IMEI to your PC, there you might need it to register it somewhere or a repair form.

Register like at a carrier website?

Anything, this just makes it easier than having to copy it number by number.

why hide the IP address? you do know that 192.168 and fe80 ips are not routed into the internet as they are private addresses and there for can be occupied multiple times, dont you?

but seriously I think sometimes the censoring is too much, imei and serial are ok, mac as well since they are unique and can maybe get some trouble if known publicly, while the (local) IPs have no danger at all for the above reasons.

          Nobody cares

        • Hello

IPv6 trailing digits are MAC addresses, so there is some sense in censoring those.

Artem does trolling right! Subtle, and just enough to raise the ire of the Internet Police.

What I want is system level copy and past so I can copy ANY text. More than once I've had this issue with messaging programs as I can only copy the entire message.

I also think the landscape settings menus is a nice L addition and is worth the "feature spotlight" title. :)
