Samsung is sending an update out to all the owners of its new wearables in the US. Surely there are some of them, right? So yes, that Gear 2, Gear2 Neo, or Gear Fit on your wrist is about to get slightly better. I mean, it's still a Gear, but you know.

Here's what you can expect to see in the update.

  • Pedometer is more accurate and starts counting steps automatically
  • Higher pedometer goals
  • An easier pedometer data transfer process
  • Improved heart rate monitor accuracy
  • Updated Sleep Mode that disables the screen wake-up feature, so you can wear it while sleeping without being disturbed
  • More options for messages sent to rejected calls and the ability to create custom messages

All good stuff, and it starts hitting devices today. The update notification will come through on your paired phone or tablet, but you'll have to wait your turn.

I'd like a fit. it just looks cool. But I don't wanna spend the money, especially since when I upgrade this fall, I may not be buying another Samsung phone.

This is one of the reasons I won't buy a Samsung smart watch. If Ara is Verizon compatible, I'll be leaving Samsung when it hits the market.

      • ddpacino

Being that Ara is about swapping different component in and out, I believe there will be a radio component that's compatible with Verizon's network, if there isn't one that supports all or most in one single chip.

        • EH101

That's what I am hoping, but I would not be surprised if Verizon came up with some ridiculous excuse that it harms the network somehow.

I feel very sad for the developers who work on galaxy gears updates. They know Android wear is coming!!

That 36 hr of standby with a 33% larger battery fills me with confidence.

      • PoisonApple31

I hope that isn't true lol cause the Gear 2 standby times are awesome and way better than that with a smaller battery.

    • PoisonApple31

Why not try to get paid in a new ecosystem? These are watch apps, most are simplistic enough.

  • Mystery Man

Hopefully they get upgraded to android wear after Google io

    • ddpacino

I highly doubt that would happen.

    • PoisonApple31

I wouldn't take such an update. Android Wear will have crappier battery life than Tizen at first if these LG G Watch stand by times end up being true. I look forward to Android Wear, but I am wondering if the only thing that will set it apart then what I can do now on my Gear is Google Now functionality.

  • THE SAMSUNG GUY

    Give me one with A SIM CARD ! THEN , it's a 1.8 inch phone !

After reading about Samsung galaxy gear fir at Samsung official site
    http://www.samsung.com/in/galaxygear/
I am also planning to take one. will these updates be in india also ?

    Original "Gear"
So look at Samsung, it looks like they never created the "Gear" wearable device; no upgrade no updates and now, Android Wear doesn't even mention it as a device and it is not recognized on the app. i have one and this was the LAST Samsung device i ever bought. It's not even a year old ! Shame
