Google has not only posted that Play Books is now available in 12 more nations, but it also took the opportunity to test our knowledge of geography. Rather than simply list the countries, the Google Play G+ account posted an image of 13 flags (Norway actually went live the other day, hence 12 new ones). Thanks, guys.

Update: Google has pulled its post because someone pulled the trigger too soon. Oops.

Update 6/18/14: Okay, now it's all live. Screens are below.

Okay, so we've cracked open some old social studies textbooks and figured out what all these flags are. Here are the countries you can now get Play Books in.

  • Paraguay
  • Bolivia
  • Uruguay
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Panama
  • Dominican Republic
  • El Salvador
  • Ecuador
  • Nicaragua
  • Costa Rica
  • Luxembourg
  • Norway (already live)

Celebrate by reading a book... like one written by a certain AP staffer maybe? It seems Books hasn't quite gone live in all the new countries just yet, but give it a little time.

Ryan is a tech/science writer, skeptic, lover of all things electronic, and Android fan. In his spare time he reads golden-age sci-fi and sleeps, but rarely at the same time. His wife tolerates him as few would.

He's the author of a sci-fi novel called The Crooked City, which is available on Amazon and Google Play. http://goo.gl/WQIXBM

Ryan's too modest to link to his own book, so I'll do it for him: https://play.google.com/store/books/details/Ryan_Whitwam_The_Crooked_City?id=-LGDAwAAQBAJ

Everyone grab it and give it a read!

Unavailable in my country. Latvia is still waiting. And less likely to get.

I don't think the Google Play G+ account told the public when Google Play Books went live in Norway, so they treat it as brand new among the other 12 countries in that post :)

Right, but we posted, so we're counting it as 12 :P

      • SSDROiD

PSA: books is now live the countries mentioned. Feel free to update again this story

        • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

          Yup, already on it.

  • ericnpc

Yay, Uruguay! That makes Books and Movies.

  • CeluGeek

And Puerto Rico continues to be MIA for anything non-app from Google Play despite it being a territory of the United States, which should result in less licensing hurdles than most international markets. I'm getting tired of waiting for Google to get their act together. Might be time to switch to iOS or maybe Windows Phone.

    • David Vargas

Go away to buy books in a Win-phone! Hahaha.

  • Randa Hafza

    still no lebanon
