It's been a while since AllCast saw a big update, but here one is to brighten your Monday. Koush's media streaming app gains a few new features today, but perhaps his mind has been on other things. The oddly conversational Play Store changelog mentions Game of Thrones in addition to AllCast. I'm hunting for Hodor references in the app, but nothing so far.

Here's what we've got in AllCast v1.1.1.6.

  • New tablet UX
  • Full screen swiping UI for photos
  • Photo slideshow mode
  • Auto-pause on incoming call
  • Tons of bug fixes
  • Hodor for King, 2016

The new tablet interface has a split view that allows you to browse media on one side of the screen while controlling playback on the other. I'm really into this – it works well. The auto-pause feature is a nice addition as well. If you have yet to investigate AllCast, the trial includes the ability to stream a minute of video for testing purposes. The real deal is $4.99.

Tablet UI ftw! Google should learn from devs how to treat tablet users

I always have issues with allcast. Alot of stuff stored on my pc will not play on my chromecast or smarttv. Can't play any of my mp3s for example.

Don't have these issues with bubbleupnp.

    • Martin Dolan

      Same here.
Won't play most mp3's, and also doesn't support folder style browsing of music, only album and artist.. Does bubbleupnp do that?

      • C64

You can try it for free. So you can test it yourself.

I use bubbleupnp in combination with serviio (pc) and bubbleupnp server (pc).

Works perfectly for me. Only thing i mis is movie art (like xbmc) but i can live with it

        • Vesuvius

Use Yatse for XBMC, brilliant even has chromecast

          • C64

Wil that work with serviio, because i don't run xbmc on my laptop.

I use a very old laptop as a sort of server so i can use my normal laptop for other stuff.

I run xbmc on my tablet (streaming from my server) but the movie scraper doesn't work then

          • Vesuvius

No...you must have server on at same time, but Yatse check it out here:

Let me know how you go

    • Ian Fay

Yeah, allcast seems to have lots of issues with some codecs. I'm really looking forward to VLC coming up soon.

    • Koushik Dutta

I actually fixed mp3 playback from PC/DLNA in this release. Let me know if it still is causing issues.

      • C64

I only get a black screen and sometimes I will see the album cover but that's it

        • Koushik Dutta

Any idea how the mp3 is encoded? ac3? aac?

          • C64

No sorry, seems that most of my mp3s won't work with allcast.

My mp3 are mostly old cds (classics, olschool & rave) from the early 90s that i downloaded.

I don't have this problem with bubbleupnp

      • Daniel Pogue

Hey Koush, any plans to add the ability to browse content on your pc from phone and then stream that to devices? similiar to Plex or videostream?

  • Gsizzle

Ditched AllCast for LocalCast a while ago and never looked back.

    • C64

Localcast doesn't support streaming to dlna devices. Ik got a lot of mkv files on mij pc that i stream to my smarttv (chromecast and mkv sucks). For the rest i use my chromecast

  • Promethean

Would love proper support for streaming videos from my NAS to Chromecast, most video files either don't have sound or just straight up don't work... would be nice to not have to turn my HTPC on if I don't have to.

  • xdapao3

...and still no view by folders. Until it has a folders view/organization is a useless mess and totally useless, to me.

    • Koushik Dutta

Local media or media server folders?

      • xdapao3

Local media, of course. Media on my smartphone and tablet. I have got a Note 3 and a Note Pro and they both have 32GB internal storage + 64GB storage cards. I have lots of pics, videos, music (and pdfs...) I'd like to be able to cast AND they are all logically organized in folders... Throwing everything together makes it impossible to find what I need and to cue the files I want to cast...

I think the trial includes 5 minutes of video viewing now. Love the app, purchased it recently even though I hardly use most of its functionality (use it to stream local content to my Chromecast). Very recommended.
