Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android applications, games, and live wallpapers that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous 2 weeks or so.
Persist + Volume Control
Today's roundup is presented by Persist+ Volume Control. Persist+ is volume profiles on steroids. Not only can you set different profiles for the alarm, media, ringer, notifications, and other sound elements, but you can also automate these profiles according to your location, calendar, or the time of day. Persist+ also integrates with Tasker and Locale, offers widgets and notification shortcuts for quick access, and has a nifty "Pocket locker" function that disables volume changes when your phone's screen is off.
Persist Volume Control is an amazing app that lets you take control of your device’s volume – instead of being controlled by it. Persist Volume Control is extremely easy to use. Simply tweak existing or create new pre-defined volume profiles, and toggle between them with just a single touch. Individual profiles are comprised of: Alarm, Media, Ringer, Notification, Voice (in-call), Bluetooth and overall system volume.
Persist Volume Control also detects when you insert headphones or activate Bluetooth, and automatically toggles to your preferred volume profile. You can even create automatic scheduled presets based on time of day, physical location, or a calendar event.

Android Police coverage: [New App] Lumosity Mobile App Arrives On Android Eager To Train Brains Using Bite-Sized Games
Lumosity is basically a more grown-up version of Brain Age for the Nintendo DS. You've probably seen their TV ads at some point: the app includes basic memory and problem-solving games designed to "scientifically" expand your mind's power. Whether or not it works isn't really our area of expertise, but we do know in-app purchases when we see them: a month of access to Lumosity Premium will cost you $12, while paying for a year gets a discount rate of $60.
Train your memory and attention. Used by over 60 million people worldwide, Lumosity is a Personal Training Program that challenges your brain. Lumosity is designed by neuroscientists to train memory, attention, and more. With foundations in the study of neuroplasticity, Lumosity games have improved working core cognitive abilities in several research studies.
Life Time Alarm Clock
Life Time is trying to be the "everything for everyone" alarm app, and from what we can see, it's succeeding. In addition to an attractive radial design, the alarm has more features than you can shake a stick at: on-the-fly snooze adjustments, quick access to an LED flashlight switch, soft alarms, LOUD ALARMS, you name it. It also has some really well-thought-out features, like the ability to make a standard alarm ring a few minutes early if you've got something unusual you need to do that morning.
Experience the Evolution of Alarm Clock Design. Habitual over-sleepers, strung-out college students, moms, travelers – we’ve got you covered. Smart Snooze lets you limit the amount of time you can snooze. Wake challenges make sure you’re awake, and we’ve got some loud alarm tones to BLAST you out of bed. We respect your battery, no drain unless Life Time Alarm Clock is visible to you. Other top alarm clocks use up to 8% of your battery in the background 24/7.
Android Reddit clients are a dime a dozen, but they almost always require an internet connection to work. Reddit Offline, like the name so aptly suggests, wants to feed your Reddit addiction even when you are offline by preloading posts, images, and comments. The app is free, ad-free, and will remain so. It is currently in its pre-release stages and is still rough around the edges, especially when it comes to UI elements. But hey, it's Reddit, offline, so we can't complain.
This app allows you to download contents from reddit when you have Internet, and read them when you don't. Everything in this app was designed with offline in mind. Being able to use this app when there's no Internet is the top priority when making any design decisions. It currently pre-downloads text posts, images (including gifs and imgur albums), and all comments, for offline use.
Echo Notification Lockscreen
Android Police coverage: [New App] Echo Lockscreen Is An Attractive Alternative For Sufferers Of Notification Overload
Android notifications can be quite useful and essential, or secondary and intrusive. Unfortunately, the default Android behavior is to treat all of them as equals, regardless of the context. Echo Lockscreen might be the solution to that problem by learning from your behavior and organizing notifications according to their priority. The app can also distinguish social, work, and game updates, control each one individually, and let a notification bounce back to you after you dismiss it.
Echo Lock Screen centers your notifications around you. Instead of browsing through dozens of unnecessary messages, Echo automatically filters your notifications and delivers the most important alerts straight to your lock screen.
- Stay organized - Echo automatically groups your notifications to make them easier to scan. When you open your phone in the morning, your work, game, and social updates will be neatly separated.
- Avoid interruptions - Echo learns from your behavior and identifies the notifications that are important to you. To help you avoid interruptions, Echo only wake your screen on a priority message.
- Detailed view - Echo locker shows you more details on each notification. Unlike widgets like NiLs or DashClock, Echo lets you view and dismiss notifications individually.
- Create reminders - You can receive notifications around your schedule by creating reminders. If you get a missed call alert from your mom when you’re at work, you can set a reminder to have the notification bounce back when you’re at home.
DinnerTime (Parental Control)
"John, stop playing that game, it's dinner time... John, I said leave that tablet alone while you eat!" And this is how gadgets end up flying across rooms. Or if you're the smart kind of parent, you would have installed DinnerTime on your children's devices. That way, John has no other option but to stare deep into your eyes during dinner, because his tablet is rendered useless for as long as you set it. The app works on both phones and tablets, for short periods like meals or long durations like bedtime, and has a paid version that adds more monitoring, controls, whitelists, and blacklists.
The DinnerTime app gives parents the ability to easily lock and unlock their child’s Android tablet or smartphone, without intrusive controls, no matter where they are. Attention that normally would be on an electronic device is now refocused to the family encouraging more quality time.
Daydream is a hidden gem on Android, provided you know how to enable it and find a useful app to make use of it. Daydream Widgets aims to solve the second part of that equation by making any widget on your device available to set up. You can pick a background color, a specific number of widgets, then add and organize them until you get the desired setup. In a sense, the app's functionality is reminiscent of DashClock, except that it doesn't rely on third-party plugins to gather and present the data. On the negative side, however, the resulting interface is as varied as the widgets you pick and never as homogenous as what you get with DashClock.
Make your own custom Daydream screensaver with your favorite home screen widgets. Just drag and drop your widgets, pick your favorite color, and you just made a new custom screensaver. When your device is docked and charging your widgets will cycle and show right next to each other, or one after another.

There were diaries, then voice recorders and camcorders, then automated life logging cameras, and now there's Owly. By taking 10-second snapshots of various moments and geotagging them, Owly lets you relive your day's most interesting tidbits. Thankfully, Owly can be set to trigger only at a certain volume threshold to avoid recording silence, and the audio fragments are deleted after a week unless they are shared and favorited.
Owly records 10 second sound fragments throughout your day and registers the location of the recording. This gives you a great overview of your day. It can catch hilarious moments, such as you laughing with your friends, having a date, being in class, watching TV or listening to music.
