With enough money, a collection of Z-Wave devices, and a Vera smart home controller, it doesn't take much to turn your home into an intelligent fortress. There's even an Android app by Vera that puts control of everything into the palm of your hand. But if we've learned anything over the years, it's that you're not impressing anyone until there's a Tasker plugin that can automate everything for you. Now there is.

AutoVera comes to us from joaomgcd, the maker of the best Tasker plugins out there, and security is far from its only application. Not only is your phone able to respond to anything that happens in your home, the opposite is the case as well. You can have your lights come on automatically when your alarm goes off. Then you can set them to go back off whenever you flip your phone. In short, it turns your smartphone into an automated singular point of control for all the things.

As is the case with Tasker in general, this software will take some time for new users to pick up and understand. But if you've used one plugin before, then you should be able to find your way around.

As usual, there's an unlock key you will need to take advantage of all the plugin has to offer, and this time it goes for $3.49. None of this will work without Tasker, so be sure to grab that too if you don't already have it installed.

Born and raised in the rural South, Bertel knows what it's like to live without 4G LTE - or 3G, for that matter. The only things he likes sweeter than his tea are his gadgets, and while few objects burn more than a metal phone on a summer day, he prefers them that way anyway.

They have an android app that integrates with tasker too (I wrote it) and the app and the automation software are all free and opensource.

I believe you meant to say, "None of this will work without tasker..." Yay, I'm the dick today.

      Oops, thanks.

If you use his apps you ended up with too many icons in your app drawer. Should be a main app and modules for them.

What's "new" about this app? I've been using it for months...

It's now out in public. It was in beta before and not available in the Play Store unless you looked for it.

      • Joel

Ah got it, that makes sense.

Is there any work around that could make this work on UI6 firmware for the vera? Unfortunately I'm stuck on that firmware and have been unsuccessful on downgrading.

    • Filipe

Did you follow tutorials in forum.micasaverde.com? I was able to downgrade through one of the topics there

      • Carlos

I actually did downgrade, but I got a lot of crashes afterwards that I just upgraded it back to UI6 (which was on the box when I got it) and figured I would just deal with it. I've just been using authomation in combination with Tasker to satiate most of my needs.
