The Chrome Remote Desktop app was long overdue when Google finally launched it a few weeks back, and already there's a much requested feature addition. As of the newest update, which started rolling out yesterday, the app supports immersive mode on Android 4.4.

What’s New

Before this update, the 'X' button in the action bar would hide only the action bar. That was certainly better than nothing, but it wasn't true immersive mode. Now in v36 there is a full screen button that hides the action bar, status bar, and navigation bar (if you have one). See the comparisons below.

Remember, immersive mode means hiding the on-screen UI completely. It is different than the translucent system UI.

The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.

    Looks so much better

They really need to add the ability to use USB keyboards and mice. I tried it when it first came out and the cursor did not take over the computers one. So you end up with two cursors on the screen.

      exactly this!

    • Harsha

And also at least special function keyboard, ctrl and alt. Like there is in team viewer.

Would be cool of this worked with Linux.

    • Onitsoga

      it doesn't?

      • Jeff718

Not for what I want to do (access my Linux computer from my phone).

"Chrome Remote Desktop is fully cross-platform. Provide remote assistance to Windows, Mac and Linux users, or access your Windows (XP and above) and Mac (OS X 10.6 and above) desktops at any time, all from the Chrome browser on virtually any device, including Chromebooks."

Only Ubuntu. I tired doing it in Arch Linux, and all in vain.

Is CRD better/worse than anything else?

    • humulos

Not as full featured as some, but much easier to use than all alternatives.

  • Mlibbey

Is there any reason this is better than teamviewer? just curious. been a long time user of teamviewer, any reason to switch?

    • Paul_Werner

Not in it's current state. At least not for me since there is no advanced keyboard input and multi screen shows all screens at once without a way to toggle between one at a time (that I could find)

      • Mlibbey

ahh ok thanks! multi screens is necessary for me too

I actually love the fact that it shows all the screens, much faster to move between the multiple screens.

        • Paul_Werner

It's not bad, just different... because i end up having to scroll all the way in to see some things (for the most part) and then dragging the mouse all the way to the other screen (or zooming out and back in to do that). I think I just got used to TeamViewer's way

It would be awesome if working on your Android device you could take over the PC. Right now, the PC has priority and you can't lock someone out (although they can lock you out pretty easily).

Copy text on PC,paste it on phone and vise versa.

Pushbullet or Airdroid works well for this.

Am I missing something does my galaxy s4 running kitkat on verizon not have immersive mode because the status bar still shows constantly. Wouldn't be surprised if verizon removed this because ART is missing too.
