I know the readers of AP (along with the staff) have very mixed feelings about Instagram. Over the last several months, I've personally started to use the photo-based network more and more, even if only for browsing images of guitars (seriously, there are some sexy axes on the ol' IG). I've grown to enjoy it quite a bit.

However, there's been a dramatic lack of any photo editing outside of the included filters that IG is already known for. Today's update actually changes that, as the company is introducing some new "advanced" editing tools outside of its normal array of filters and such. Post-update, a wrench icon will appear once a filter is selected, allowing users to manually adjust brightness, contrast, warmth, saturation, and more.

This update should be hitting Google Play and rolling out to users shortly.

    APK or it didn't happen.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/author/eric-ravenscraft/ Eric Ravenscraft

Man, I know that AP provides a lot of APKs generally and whatever but...jeez, guys. Is it *really* so important that you play with Instagram's editing features an hour earlier than everyone else that you have to leave a bajillion different comments demanding an APK? Do you think that if Android Police had it, they wouldn't post it just to spite you? Or maybe you think that they won't post if only two comments show up demanding it, but that third one in a row, man, that'll be the one that makes the APK appear.

Jesus, guys, chill the hell out. We get it. You want the app. It'll get to you.

      • WithTechFriends.com

You be the one who needs to chill.

        • MoPizza

          Fuck off, your website sucks.

          Best fucking show ever.

      • NinoBr0wn

Did you really take "apk or it didn't happen" as a demand or even a serious comment?

      • miri

While you do have a point, the IFTTT recipe for apk downloads did go off and I didn't come all this way for nothing so somebody better put out :P

        • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

The reason the recipe went off was the related posts with "APK Download" in it. I just took out related posts from feeds, so it shouldn't happen again.

  • RJM7787

Interestingly iOS does not have this, so I guess we received the features first for once.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Cameron Summerson

It's rolling out to iOS today, too.

      • RJM7787

A part of me felt like I was being naive for thinking that, haha. Oh well my girlfriend will be happy about that /subtlejab.

  • Deepit Magee

APK please. Someone else if not AP?

  • Bill Stebbins

Why, IFTTT, why do you tease me so?

The recipe went off because the related posts had a link with "APK Download" in it. I just took out related posts from feeds, so it shouldn't happen again.

        Thank you sir.

IG also seems pretty popular with watchmakers/collectors if you're into wristwatch pr0n. Good stuff there.

  • cbabb

But what about the photo quality? IG quality compared to iOS is poor.

    • Abdullah AL-Rawahi

      same maybe as before :(

  • Mike Gonzalez

it reminds me of snapseed/google photos

"I know the readers of AP (along with the staff) have very mixed feelings about Instagram." This sounds bad.. "All nerds/tech guys don't have a life and nothing to share" :-)))))

    • G3Sidhu

You sure are wrong Mi'lady! *tips fedora*

Wish they would fix the video recording bug with the galaxy note. Since I moved from my galaxy S2 to my note I could never again upload a video because instagram crashes the whole operating system when I try to record a video with it.

    Obs: Running sammy stock 4.1.

  • NinoBr0wn

Does it fix the crap compression yet?

    • Leif Sikorski

It's not just the compression ... their resolution of 640pixel is also pretty outdated for modern displays. One of the reasons why I use IG much less these days and prefer EyeEm.

      • Alan Fortte

Actually I have noticed compression problems have been fading away but maybe that's just me.

        • João Cadidé

I thought the same, although I don't think that pics uploaded from the Android app have the same quality as the ones from iOS, but they are definitely better from before.

  • James_C_L

Wow.. No apk from Android police. What has this world come to.

  • Aaron Birnbaum

Any idea if this has the video stabilization iOS got a while back?

  • Abdullah AL-Rawahi

    what about photo quality -_-

  • alwin006

It's out, just got the 6.0.1 update through the playstore
