The Galaxy S5 Active, Samsung's much-leaked ruggedized version of its latest flagship, is now official, and available from AT&T in three colors - Camo Green, Ruby Red, and Titanium Gray.

Just like the previous entry in the Active family, the S5 Active is water and dust resistant, and looks quite capable of taking some abuse. The S5 Active, as you may guess, is essentially the Galaxy S5 in a rougher, tougher chassis. They share almost all the same specs, though the Active does not sport a fingerprint scanner. The device does have a dedicated button, however, for launching your "activity-related features."

If you've been waiting on the edge of your seat for the S5 Active to be made available to the public, you can order it now from AT&T for $200 on contract, or $715 contract-free. AT&T is also offering $50 off the Gear Fit for those who buy the Active for a limited time. Just hit the appropriate link below.

A ruggerized phone isn't ugly. MAN YOU CRAZY?

A ruggerized phone eh? You don't say.

    Stay active my friends

I was hoping for the Dos Equis man... Now I'm disappointed.

Meme for you my friend. Stay thirsty for internet humor.

I know who that camo phone was built for. Murica that's who.

I'll never understand why xenophobia towards americans is okay but it is totally unfair when an american is xenophobic.

      • Jephri

It is self deprecated humor, not xenophobia. I'm a white American male, and making fun of ourselves is the only thing that is still politically correct in this hyper sensitive, easily offended world. So, get off your high and mighty horse and kindly give it to a man with a sense of humor and a Stetson hat.

Maybe stop going along with political correctness then? Faggot :p

See! I posted my hunter/fisherman comment BEFORE I even read this. (Before you ask, my husband does not have a beard like that.)

It's a tank. I sort of dig it. As in I would never get it but it should probably be the wife's next phone since she drops hers 15 times a day, 3 of them into some sort of liquid.

    • http://AndroidPolice.com/ Liam Spradlin

The remaining drops are into dust or physical hazards, right?

    • Jephri

My wife just cracked the screen of her second phone in the last year... I feel your pain.

    • Paweł Gładysz

Yes... Finally a one that has a chance to survive in my wive's purse for more than 6-8 months

  • droid4lif3

    $715!!! Ha

    • ssj4Gogeta

That's on par with most top-end phones.

      • Mantas

        most of them are $650

      • droid4lif3

I have the S5 developer edition and I paid $660 shipped. It is pretty expensive its just $715 sounds like soo much more. And I did pay $900 for my wifes iphone :(

  • Sandeep !!

Its the year 2014, and still the physical buttons! *Sigh* I'm really not sure why Samsung can't implement those on-screen soft keys. Sony, LG, HTC has done it, still Samsung can't :/

    • Konstigt2

Then it would be too much unlike the Iphone.

      • Sandeep !!

    • primalxconvoy

Actually, I like physical buttons. In sure many other users do, too.

      • Sandeep !!

        Don't worry, there's Samsung for you :P

    • MyLeftNut

Well, beyond the fact that some people actually prefer them, physical buttons make more sense for a ruggadized phone especially one that is rated for use near or in water since traditionally touch screens tend be unresponsive or go crazy when the screen is "wet."

      • Sandeep !!

I got your point, but still as this is a touch-screen phone, still those water in the screen registers a touch event right, so how is it possible to operate it normally (like it may accidently touches a button in the UI or items in actionbar etc.), even if we don't take the soft navigation keys into consideration.

      • NoLogic

What good are 3 buttons underwater on a touchscreen phone if the phone's touchscreen is going crazy? You can now hit home and look at your homescreen which will bug out when you touch it?

        • MyLeftNut

or you know it could be for taking pictures or checking messages on your lockscreen or any number of things. Don't own the phone just explaining a reason why, beyond the fact that it's their brand and they can do whatever the hell they want, there might be physical buttons.

  • dumbos are dumb

    Tacky redefined.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/author/pamela-hill/ Pamela Hill

Nah, Rhinestones on a phone are tacky. I'm down with Camo.

  • Konstigt2

Yet another phone that won't get upgrades in a timely manner.

    • Rob Cook

Actually as far as Samsung phones go my wife's S4 Active has received relatively timely updates.

      • Konstigt2

Usually with Samsung, they update the most standard versions normally (for example S4, Note 2) but the variations will take time (S4 Mini, Mini LTE, Active, Note 2 LTE etc..).

      • Guest

        It's on 4.4.2?

  • Alberto Blasi

And when you thought Samsung couldn't make an uglier phone...

  • Murtaza Samma

I know that people are/will complain about the size/color/form factor/physical buttons & so on about this phone. For the record, I personally don't like it either BUT this phone is perfect for a manufacturing/industrial environment where less than ruggedness doesn't cut it.

Well, it sure is better looking than most Otter Boxes, which is what I have to keep my S3 phone in. So,I would definitely consider this.

I think Samsung should go for designs more similar to Tizen cases, though. Some of them are really nice. I think women in particular would prefer that.

  • Dan Owen

I like the idea, but this looks like it does nothing to protect the screen. How many phones are broken that is not screen related? Generally, a broken phone is a broken screen. This just looks pointless to me.

  • http://www.androidpolice.com/author/pamela-hill/ Pamela Hill

I really like the Camo one for my hubby! It's like the off-road jeep version of the GS5. And if you look at it from a sporty/hunter/fisherman perspective, it looks pretty cool. Thank god it still has decent specs, though. I was afraid I was going to read 1GB of Ram or something ridiculous like that.

  • EH101

I'd have gotten this if it was available when I got my S5, just for the hardware buttons.

Also, I wonder if that extra button can be programmed to launch the camera and be a shutter button. Odd placement, but that would solve the last thing I miss from my Blackberry days.

    • alfuen00

Yes it launches a new app named Activity Zone, and yes it can be used for camera or whatever you want to launch

  • Karan O

    ... except the front buttons!

  • M

Just buy the S5 and put on an armor gear case

  • 4laptop4

fugly fone, will sell hundreds. Long live consumerism!

  • Steve Hartsock

I love how people are putting down the looks of the phone when NONE have seen it up close and in person.

Glad mine will be here Tuesday.

  • Nathan

Dropped the s5 active 3 feet and shattered the screen
