Race Illegal: High Speed 3D

Today's roundup is presented by Race Illegal: High Speed 3D from HeroCraft. HeroCraft's latest racer seems to take its inspiration from that arcade staple, Cruis'n USA. It's got the same exaggerated car designs, the same cartoony physics, and the same focus on speed above all else. But it's also deeper than your standard arcade racer, with tuning and customization, an online leaderboard, and even an integrated story mode.

The smell of freshly burnt rubber on tarmac, the feel of the soft leather in your hands, the sound of engines roaring and crowds cheering, open your eyes and experience racing in its purest form, get ready to take to the streets in Race Illegal. Finally the true street racing experience has arrived on your phone. Starting your career as a rookie; you need to earn respect out there before you can challenge the best, work your way through an intense and engaging storyline to prove yourself top dog.

Monument Valley

Android Police review: Monument Valley Review: It Only Takes An Hour To Change The World

If M.C. Escher was alive today and went for game design instead of drawing and graphic arts, Monument Valley is the game he would make. In this ostensibly simple platformer you lead a princess around a series of stages. No big deal, right? But each stage shifts almost continuously in both structure and perspective - Mario never had to navigate around an impossible triangle. Fantastic visual design and soothing music doesn't hurt. The game is $4 for only a few hours of playtime, but it's well worth the asking price.

In Monument Valley you will manipulate impossible architecture and guide a silent princess through a stunningly beautiful world. Monument Valley is a surreal exploration through fantastical architecture and impossible geometry. Guide the silent princess Ida through mysterious monuments, uncovering hidden paths, unfolding optical illusions and outsmarting the enigmatic Crow People.

The sequel features an amazing 300 different teams, so no matter your location or affiliation, there should be something for you to like. Nancy Drew: Ghost of Thornton

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Her Interactive's 27th Nancy Drew Sequel 'Ghost Of Thornton' Becomes Its First On Android

The revived Nancy Drew series of first-person adventure games has had dozens of entries on the PC and Mac, but this southern-fried mystery is the first one to jump to Android. These games follow the rough fashion of the old children's books, translating them into inventory puzzles that frame the core mystery. You'll have to explore, talk to residents of the mansion to glean events and motives, and keep your wits sharp. The game is free to play for the first hour, then you'll have to pay $6 to continue.

Jessalyn Thornton’s fateful sleepover at the abandoned Thornton estate was supposed to be a pre-wedding celebration, but the fun ended when she disappeared. While her family searches for clues, others refuse to speak about the estate’s dark past. Did something supernatural happen to Jessalyn, or is someone in Thornton Hall holding something besides family secrets?

Tiny Dice Dungeon

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Kongregate Brings Tiny Dice Dungeon To Android, A Dice-Based RPG For The Pixel Lovers Out There

In Tiny Dice Dungeon, a roll of the dice decides your fate. Kinda like pretty much every tabletop RPG out there. The unflinchingly 8-bit, 2D game isn't necessarily retro, but it probably wouldn't mind if you called it that. Basic inventory and level progression should be familiar enough, and you can get better equipment, but your actual battle prowess will be determined almost exclusively by your dice. Rudimentary online multiplayer, Pokemon-style monster catching, and lots of IAPs are included.

Tiny Dice Dungeon is a free, epic RPG full of danger, warriors, wizards and loot. Adventure with tiny heroes through dark dungeons full of giant monsters and ultimate treasure. Nun Attack Origins: Yuki

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Nun Attack Origins: Yuki's Silent Quest Provides Totally Necessary Character Backstory For $1.99

The ladies from Nun Attack are basically ninjas in habits. If you need to know more than that about women of God who defend the world with martial arts and AK-47s, then Frima Studio is happy to oblige. Nun Attack Origins: Yuki builds on the franchiser by featuring just one of the women in black, with some surprisingly unique gameplay elements. Her angular slicing attack makes the levels more like puzzles than action sequences, but the village building sections are a bit of an odd change of pace.

An ancient portal has opened, releasing a force that razed the village and spirited the orphans away. It’s up to Yuki, Sister of Silence, mistress of stealth and Nun-jutsu, to eradicate this unrelenting evil. In this epic quest to save the missing orphans and avenge the village, peek into Yuki’s past as she uses her deadly ninja war fans to kick some serious butt. In a world where the wicked know no rest, you must hunt down the forces of evil and save the kidnapped orphans before God knows what horrible fate befalls them.

FlapThulhu

Android Police coverage: [LOL] The Elder God FlapThulhu Will Destroy Your Soul In The New Flappy Bird Clone From Noodlecake Studios

You wouldn't believe how many crappy Flappy Bird clones have been submitted to Android Police's tip line over the last few months. Seriously, it's insane how many people want to jump on that bandwagon. Strictly speaking, Noodlecake is right there with them, but featuring an ancient elder god of Lovecraftian horror as your game's adorable player character makes us sit up and take notice. Also, the fact that this clone includes rudimentary combat (gameplay! What a concept!) earns it at least a grudging recommendation.

Flap through the horrible gates of R'lyeh and unleash the Madness to open a portal to the eldritch dimension... or will the madness take you? Fight mode - beat up lesser monsters as you fly through a disgusting cave. Shoggoth - unleash and play as a new horrible beast. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Flapthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl flaptagn.

Trials Frontier

Android Police coverage: Ubisoft Brings Trials Frontier Out Of Limited Beta, Releases It Into The Play Store For Everyone

Trials Frontier is the mobile version of the latest Trials release, called Fusion on PC and consoles. This free-to-play game takes the classic formula of 2D physics-based racing and stunts and puts it into a dusty, rusty environment. The gas-brake physics gameplay should please fans and the art style and over-the-top characters are fun in context, but be prepared to grind for coins or pay up to upgrade your bike and advance.

Explore a vast world on your motorcycle. Compete against your friends on Global Leaderboards. Master physics-based tracks to challenge the world's top riders for the best times. Race your motorcycle through a world of adventure, crazy characters, and unfairly addictive tracks. Experience the ULTIMATE skill-based RACING game on your smartphone and tablet. ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES. Physics-based racing FINALLY PERFECTED for the touch screen.

JoyJoy

Android Police coverage: [New Game] JoyJoy From Radiangames Is A Top-Down Shooter With A Pretty Face

JoyJoy looks like a fusion of top-down, twin-stick space shooters like Geometry Wars and an overly colorful concert poster from the 1970s. It hits all the standards of the genre: fast and visually intense shooting, tricky bullet hell navigation, differing weapons and difficulty levels. The trippy visuals are interesting and controller support is a nice touch. JoyJoy is $2 with no in-app purchases.

JoyJoy is the new fantastically satisfying twin-stick shooter from Radiangames, creators of Inferno+, Ballistic SE, Super Crossfire, and more. Blast your way through 24 unique waves and 6 intense challenges. Upgrade 6 varied weapons, along with your ships' speed, armor, and special attack. Choose one of 5 difficulty levels, with 2 bonus difficulty levels (Lightning and Armored) providing new ways to play the game.

Rugby Kicks 2

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Rugby Kicks 2 Hits The Play Store With More Ways To Kick A Ball Through A Goal Again, Again, And Again

Hey look, another mobile sequel for a sport that (most) Americans don't care about! Between the two of them, Striker Soccer 2 is probably more worthy of a download, if only because it's a full game, whereas Rugby Kicks 2 is just a series of field goal minigames. You kick the ball through the posts from various spots on the field, then do it again and again and again. Multiplayer is only available in leaderboard style, and the game includes in-app purchases.

From the makers of the #1 rugby gaming giant Rugby Nations™ comes the flicktastic and fiercely addictive Rugby Kicks 2. Featuring the mighty Phoenix™ engine for the ultimate rugby experience on Android and new swipe mechanic, fully redesigned for maximum performance. Hop on the squad tour bus and convert your way to the top – one rugby nation at a time. Smash the floating targets in England, score big kicking to the touch line in South Africa while perfecting your drop goals to squash the trophy dreams of your rivals in Argentina.

MacGyver Deadly Descent

Android Police coverage: [New Game] MacGyver Deadly Descent Arrives In Play Store, Is Presumably Constructed From Chewed Gum, String, And Paperclips

As far as licensed games go, a MacGyver-branded puzzler seems strangely appropriate (see the Godzilla game further down on this list for contrast). The official game is basically a series of logic, timing, and positioning puzzles, including the usual MacGyver elements of random stuff pressed into insanely useful service. Sadly, this game does not include any Richard Dean Anderson voice-overs.

MacGyver is back. In a new, thrilling puzzle game, MacGyver is tapped as the last hope when a computer virus rips through the top secret D.A.W.N Laboratories, trapping its scientists underground. Arriving on the scene, Mac realizes it’s a race against time before the laboratory runs out of air and so must make a potentially deadly descent into the complex. Mac works his way through the labyrinth of complex puzzles but-- little does he know-- that an even deadlier enemy awaits him in the darkness.

Godzilla - Smash3

Android Police coverage: [New Game] The Official Godzilla Movie Tie-In Is A Match 3 Puzzle Game, Obviously

Here's another entry in the "movie tie-ins with baffling game counterparts" folder. Godzilla is a movie about incredibly large monsters destroying cities, terrifying people, and a humbled world forced to cower in awe at the awesome and irresistible forces of nature. So of course, the tie-in game is a match three puzzler. The odd thing is, this story-puzzle game actually looks like it's more entertaining that the short first-person shooter Godzilla released a couple of weeks ago.

The “King of the Monsters” returns in Godzilla’s mobile gaming debut. Unleash the power of Godzilla and pursue the dangerous MUTO monsters in this unique mix of jaw-dropping 3D action and challenging puzzles. Control each stomp, slash, and bite by matching - or SMASHING - puzzle tiles to drive Godzilla through 80 levels in cities across the globe.Upgrade Godzilla to match your play-style and call upon friends in times of need.

Overkill Mafia

The shooting gallery genre doesn't have a lot of life left in it, but with enough style, you can get away with just about anything. And Overkill Mafia has style in spades: while the gameplay is decidedly 2D, the graphics evoke a certain Frank Miller series transplanted from the prohibition era. The game might take itself a bit too seriously at times, but solid point-and-shoot mechanics should entertain for a while... at least until the free-to-play grind starts to wear you down with weapons and upgrades.

Classic pick and shoot arcade shooter with a strong mafia stylization and gripping black-and-white comics graphics. The streets of Chicago speak of a new rising star. They say he's smart, ruthless and determined. They say he will go any lengths. They say he's got a scared face... Prove them right. Build your bootlegging empire. Shoot your way from the streets to the top mafia ranks. Crush other families to become the Godfather. Become the legend of the gangster world.

Steampunk Tower

Here's a tower defense game that takes the name of the genre literally. There's not much complexity to Steampunk Tower: you control a rickety tower with six turrets which can be built and upgraded with various over-the-top weapons. Kill enough of the bad guys coming for you, and you can unleash a special attack from the laser on top. Have fun, but watch out for the usual IAP runaround from this former Flash game. Here's the international version.

Tower defense on the rise. Take charge of the immense Steampunk Tower and help the eccentric Lord Bingham protect his precious Etherium Mine. As the Imperial Army’s foot soldiers and mechanical monstrosities march into battle, fortify your epic spire with machine guns, cannons, lightning coil, saw launchers and more. Zombie Road Trip Trials

An update to Noodlecake's year-old physics racer Zombie Road Trip might or might not have something to do with the just-released Trials Fusion. But Trials doesn't have zombies, so if you insist on running over and shooting the undead while completing time-based, 2D racing missions, this game is for you. Choose when to gas, brake, and boost to get through a zombie-infested wasteland. Zombie Road Trip Trials includes online multiplayer and a currency-based IAP upgrade system.

The hit game Zombie Road Trip is back with an all NEW trials spin off. Hundreds of extreme missions await you and your friends in this fun filled and action packed physics game. Show off your driving, shooting, flipping, racing and zombie smashing skills in this awesome spin on the classic trials genre. Choose from an arsenal of guns to dispatch zombies roaming the wastelands. Watch them get dismembered thanks to our realistic rag-doll physics.

Blazin' Aces

You know what the cutesy 2D air combat game Mini Squadron was missing? WWII-style pinup nose art. Blazin' Aces corrects this omission, and throws in a bit of a story and a few spruced-up visuals and animation as well. You control your upgradeable plane as it rises or lowers on a vertical path, shooting everything that moves. It's basically one of the old-school flying shooters like 1941, but with the perspective shifted 90 degrees to allow a little physics to enter the equation.

Take control of the skies in this 2D retro-aerial dogfighting game. Step into the cockpit of an ace pilot in the golden era of aviation, and destroy the invading forces. Featuring arcade style gameplay, the game is easy to learn yet difficult to master.

Tales of Honor

Tales of Honor is a spaceship management game along the lines of FTL or Star Command, with a few extra elements thrown in. You'll manage your crew and equipment to prepare for one-on-one space battles with various ships, trying to digest some heavy-handed plot at the same time. The game is set in the same fictional universe as David Webber's Honor Harrington series. Free with in-app purchases.

Lead your starship through a series of thrilling space battles. Tales of Honor is an intense combat strategy game that puts you in the captain's seat. Upgrade your ship, weapons, systems, and crew and engage in combat as you hunt down a mysterious and powerful enemy that is bent on conquering the Honorverse.

Summoner Wars

Cross a card battle game with something more strategic, like Settlers of Catan, and you'd get Summoner Wars. The intricate use of attack, defense, positioning, and environment make it notably different from the hoards of Magic clones currently flooding the Play Store. It's free to try, but you'll have to pay to unlock the faction decks and special cards. (Hey, it's probably cheaper than the real-life version of the card game.) Multiplayer options are impressive: online real-time, delayed, and hot-potato in a single device.

Summoner Wars is now here for Android devices, with Online Cross Play ability. Summoner Wars for Android is a digital card game with all the tactical elements of a board game. Summoner Wars for Android allows players to control the Phoenix Elves faction and battle against AI opponents or go online to play against others. Nine additional factions such as the Tundra Orcs, Guild Dwarves and Cave Goblins are available through the game’s in-app store.

Mother of Myth

At first glance Mother of Myth looks like a standard hack-and-slash RPG set against a pseudo-mythical backdrop. And that's what it is. But solid production values (assuming you've got the hardware to run the game) and an interesting gesture-based combat system make it worth a look. It uses a series of swipe commands instead of button presses, but keeps the old isometric perspective. The free-to-play IAP game includes both a single player campaign and multiplayer battles.

Unleash the power of the Gods with an epic swipe battle system in this immersive 3D Action RPG inspired by Greek and Roman mythology. You are the chosen hero. Learn to use critical swipe skill attack gestures and strengthen your character to bring you one step closer to your destiny. Wield the power of Zeus, Athena, Artemis, and many more legendary gods to unleash an onslaught on your enemies in the epic war between Titans and gods.

1Path

1Path is a strange combination of connect the dots and a marble maze. You control your dot by tilting your phone or tablet, alternately navigating between obstacles and grabbing collectibles. The game starts out super-simple, but an impressive mix of physics-defying modes will keep things fresh through 100 levels. 1Path is free with no in-app purchases.

1Path is a puzzle and action game with minimalist nifty graphics. In 1Path, players tilt their device to steer a tiny circle and guide it to various nodes separated by obstacles. Why is this circle going through so much trouble, you may ask? Well, to save his friend whose colors have been unscrupulously stolen... Redefine the connecting game with 1Path.

Numerus

Numerus is an interesting mix of Reversi or Go and Tic-Tac-Toe, which lets you place multiple tiles in a single turn across a huge game board. The basics are easy to get a grip on, but advanced strategies will require spatial awareness and no small amount of creativity. The game includes play against the computer or local multiplayer, and it's free with no in-app purchases.

Numerus is a game with a unique mechanism thanks to which you can apply an infinite number of strategies. Place numbers that generate your pieces on the board and score by forming rows of four pieces. But be on the guard and block your rival. You can destroy your rival’s pieces and convert them to your colour. The game is dynamic, the positions change instantly on each move. By placing one number tile you can place up to 8 pieces on the board.

4444

Publisher BulkyPix is back with another puzzle game, and this one's a bit different. You have to match up tiles to make a 4-piece square of a single color, eventually turning the whole board to a single color. Movement and time restrictions will limit you in different levels, but clever players can hold on to tiles of a particular color to keep the advantage. Difficulty gets higher quickly as the boards get larger and new elements and restrictions are introduced.

4444 is an action puzzle with unique mechanics, designed to appeal to people of any demographics and culture. It is a very simple game, it only requires tapping on the screen, no swiping or complicated gestures. 4444's gameplay is super easy to grasp too. Four squares of the same colour and size merge to form a bigger square of the same colour. Join all the squares on the board into one and complete the level.

Statue of Liberty - TLS (Full)

Lady Liberty's flame seems to have gone for a stroll, and it's up to you to find out where. Another in the ever-expanding collection of Microids point-and-click adventures, Statue of Liberty: The Lost Symbol includes the usual mystery and intrigue, plus some surprisingly high production values. You'll also have to contend with a few Gadgets & Gizmos-style brain teasers, a nice break from inventory puzzles. Here's a hint: this chick called Carmen San Diego should be your first suspect.

Investigate the disappearance of one of the most important symbols of the United States. You'll play the FBI special agent Susan Pierce. She's been sent to Liberty Island to clear up the unbelievable disappearance of the iconic flame of the Statue of Liberty. Ranger Cooper's help, you'll have to resolve this mysterious affair and uncover its perpetrators. As your search progresses, you'll unveil old secrets that the island is concealing.

LEGO® ULTRA AGENTS

LEGO's Ultra Agents line is basically the company's attempt to make a SHIELD set without being beholden to Marvel. This game is a series of animated stories at its core, but in between them you'll take up the action yourself in minigames. It probably won't hold the attention of adults for very long, but like many LEGO games, it has no ads or in-app purchases, making it a good choice for kids.

Astor City is under attack from a mysterious group of Super Villains. Will YOU save it? ULTRA AGENT, this is no every day band of Super Villains, it’s going to need everything we can throw at them: our mobile command centre, quad bikes and supersonic jets are all at your disposal. Find clues, solve mysteries and save the city by joining the new ULTRA AGENTS – Astor City’s elite crime-fighting force. Use your skills and abilities to stop TOXIKITA stealing the deadly Pollutonium from the lab.

Just Escape

"Room escape" puzzle games have become bafflingly popular online, and while they aren't really my cup of tea, this one seems to have impressive 2D art and a good mix of brain-teasing puzzles. The free version offers 12 levels in two different settings, with nine more that can be unlocked via in-app purchases. More levels are planned for release later.

Just Escape, whether it's a medieval castle or an abandoned space station you'll need to solve puzzles and find clues to unlock the door and Just Escape.

Arcane Battlegrounds

Half city builder and half real-time strategy, Arcane Battlegrounds is a management game with a focus on effective wall and tower combos. Players can go on the offensive with ground and air units, including real-time online combat, or go solo in the story mode. The 2D graphics and stiff animations aren't up to much - they look like a basic web game. The title is free with in-app purchases, so watch out for imbalances in the online multiplayer.

Wage Epic Fantasy Warfare. The latest title from the award winning Spacetime Games. Arcane Battlegrounds is a fun and addicting real-time combat strategy game where you lead an army across a breathtaking fantasy world. Set in the realm of Arlor, you take charge of a novice group of fierce Warriors, magical Mages, and deadly Rangers who need to hone their skills on the battlefield.

Elements: Epic Heroes

In Ubisoft's Rayman games, the titular hero is the only one without limbs. All the other characters tend to give him grief about it. Maybe the Limbless Wonder should take a vacation in Elements: Epic Heroes, a party-based hack and slash game where everyone is as limbless as he is. Multiplayer co-op and lots of enemies are the order of the day, and since this is a Gamevil title, you can expect amazing amounts of in-app purchases and advertising as well.

The dark forces have taken control over the realm. Lead the epic heroes to defeat the Dark Lord and clear the darkness from the world.

Titanfall™ Companion App

Android Police coverage: [New App] Titanfall Gets Companion App For Android, PC Gamers Need Not Apply

Titanfall is pretty awesome as first-person shooters go, but as every giant robot pilot knows, it can be even better with a little hardware augmentation. Like other AAA shooters, this one now has a companion app, comprising mostly of a mini-map that shows considerably more information than the tiny in-game version. There is also a bit of post-match statistics and background story, along with one huge bummer: it's only for Xbox One owners. Sorry, PC and 360 players, EA apparently doesn't think you're worth further support after your purchase.

Enhance your Titanfall™ experience with the Titanfall™ Companion App. Provides you with notifications for all of the latest info and updates to Titanfall™. Features rich intel about the history of the Titanfall™ universe, characters, weapons, maps, modes and controls. Now review your stats from anywhere including total kills, favorite weapons, time spent playing and more. Includes exciting features available when connected with your Xbox One Console.

WTF Game(s) Of The Week

Angry Jew

Why would you make an endless runner starring the chosen people? Why would you set it in Russia during the late 1800s? Well as anyone who's seen An American Tale can tell you, there's actually a tiny bit of history in this otherwise typical game, covering the mass Jewish exodus from the Russian Empire, mostly to the United States. Interesting, but not all that relevant, since this game is about time machines. Yeah, I don't get it either. [Editor's note: based on the description Angry Jew is earnest, and not intended to be mocking or judgmental in any way. Android Police wouldn't feature it otherwise.]

Angry Jew is the only running-jumping-punching game that has distinct Jewish motifs. Set in 19th century Russia, you play as Mendel: an Orthodox Jew with a time machine and a mission to restore as many 'holy books' as possible. Help little Mendel complete his mission. Help him. Angry Jew was created by three handsome jews, who tried their best to make this game as fun as possible.

The Chub

The Chub is an incredibly simple tilt game wherein you move your phone to control a fat guy searching for food. Where things get strange is the game's trailer, which seems to indicate that he's in Hell. Yeah. He'll die in various extremely gruesome ways, perhaps as a tacit punishment for his deadly sins, perhaps just because the developers are freakin' weirdos. I'm betting on the latter.

THE CHUB IS HUNGRY. FEED HIM. This unique GAME blends dynamite TILT ACTION with EATING, RUNNING and MORE EATING. Did somebody say bacon-butter cheese doughnuts? Break into hell's kitchen, run amok and EAT ALL THE FOOD. Earn stars by dodging obstacles and running fat out of hell. Collect ingredients, then cook and eat your fatty culinary masterpieces.
