While Chrome Beta users have been on version 35 for the last several weeks, those who prefer to stay with the Stable build are finally getting a taste of what's been cooking under the beta hood for a while now. This includes some navigation enhancements, improved video support, and a few others.

What's New

  • Undo Tab Close
  • Fullscreen video with Subtitles and HTML5 controls
  • Support for some multi-window devices
  • Support for casting some videos with Chromecast
  • Other bug fixes

Version 35 is rolling out through the Play Store now, so jump in and grab the update. Or, to get new features before they hit prime time, grab the latest beta.

Any idea what "Chrome Samsung Support Library" is? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chrome.deviceextras.samsung

    • Daryn S.

Can't say for sure, but one of the reviews states that it fixes the Note 3 asking what the default app for opening web pages is.

      from this http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/221s8n/what_is_this_chrome_samsung_support_library_app/cgirdg6 reddit post:

"I heard of some people being able to install this on the Note 3 and the Sprint S4. I was not able to install this application, however I did stumble across an upload of the .APK file. It appears from what someone gathered is it contains the following:

      Fingerprint Support
KNOX Security Enhancements / Miscellaneous Addons
      DVFS Booster
      Clipboard Additions"

      • Faisal Hussain

Interesting. I installed it on my Sprint GS3 (Rooted 4.4.2 official KitKat). We'll see if it does anything.

Try on multi-window enabled device, because this seems to add additional support for that function as well

          • A2theC

Multi-window on chrome has worked since android 4.1 on standard chrome, beta however was strangely lacking (until I requested).

Oh, good. I had installed the beta to both my devices thanks to the Chromecasting function, but I can dump that now. Was getting old having everything constantly ask me which browser I wanted to use.

    • A2theC

Seems like this fixes that type of issue, as well as some other things. (If you have Samsung that is)

        I don't.

    • RonD45

Just chose "always" to select which browser you want as the default. No more questions. You can revert the decision by changing in settings - apps - chrome, then clear the default setting.

      • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

Nope. It asks for every single different URL clicked on from Google Now, along with from a wide variety of other types of apps. It seems to assume each needs its own separate possible defaults.

Pfft! Stable? Chrome Beta is stable! Never had any issues. OG Chrome is just for chumps who don't have internal memory to get Beta along side their Chrome, or don't have root to remove it and replace with Beta (as I have).

    • Chris

I tried the Beta a few times and had nothing but problems with it. I stick with the stable version. I've had random reboots, memory leaks, force closes...etc. Glad it's stable for you.

      • A2theC

Sorry to hear, every device has different hardware, android should use open source drivers similar to PCs so it isn't so OS dependant for stability.

        • Roh_Mish

Some components still don't and it was not long ago that there was a similar situation on that side. But drivers should be open sourced.

They fixed a really annoying bug where when you open a new tab, the url would not be highlighted, so you would have to highlight it to start typing a new url. That was annoying.

  • IrishSid

Is there a fix for the wildly different font sizes? Almost all other browser have great font rendering, but chrome has some big, some small, others minuscule. All on the same page. I'll post a screen shot if you want, but I think you know what I mean.
It's literally the only thing stopping me using it.

If Shadow DOM is included in mobile, it's the biggest inclusion IMO.

Bookmarks layout has changed also - from thumbnails to lists.

    • Jo
