In some ways, the food truck is the closest thing we have to hunting wild game in an urban setting. It's food, but it moves. How are you supposed to find food that moves? With the NomNom Finder app, which has just arrived on Android.

This service tracks food truck nearby in real time. The map view is good for getting the lay of the land – to plan your hunt of the wily food truck. There is also a slide-out nav bar with food trucks listed by distance. Each truck can be marked as a favorite for easier tracking later, and there are links to call or visit the truck's website.

It doesn't have trucks listed for all areas just yet. The closest one to me is roughly 900 miles away, so I think I'll go with some non-mobile food today. Feel free to give it a shot, though.

Hmm... In Portland all the food trucks/carts stay put in leased parking lot spaces. Consequently, we have block-large outdoor "food courts" in various places around the city.

    So we have this:

Those new more colorful action bars are really looking bad without a tinted status bar.

    • peatcoal

No they're not. Why does someone have to comment this asinine comment on EVERY SINGLE new app post?

      • Wesley Modderkolk

Because it is an opinion? Just because you think something is the case doesn't mean it is the case.

Running the Tinted Statusbar XPosed module shows me how much better it looks when the statusbar changes color accordingly.

        • peatcoal

So just use the tinted status bar module, and stop commenting this on every app?

          • Wesley Modderkolk

On every app? I believe I did it twice. My apologies for not writing what you want to read.

No but seriously, if you do not like what I write, you could also just ignore it instead of big-mouthing me over absolutely nothing.

What is it with developers using iOS elements in android apps? It actually takes more work to do that instead of just using the android elements.

This is just because everybody in the company, including the UI designer, use iPhone and they don't care much about the other platforms. I ran into the exact same issue myself (at the time I started working I was THE ONLY Android user in whole company) and it took me nearly three years to convince my boss we should follow the platform guidelines and stop making this heavily customized iOS-like shit.

      • Aooga

It's just odd because to make it look like iOS, you need to redesign all the png's and assets. It's so much easier to just use the android ones.

Looks like it's pretty much only useful in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hopefully they flesh out some more cities soon.

They don't have an efficient business model that will ultimately fail them. I heard that there is a startup in Boston that is about to launch that will do it all right. Don't know the name tho. Only time will tell.

In DC Food Truck Fiesta was the go to source. Anyone know if this is better or worse?

    • Bob

I'm late to this, but there's a review in the Play Store saying it has no entries for DC. Food Truck Fiesta it is...

I would suggest that hunting a lower subspecies of human would be the closest equivalent, just as there are certain times of the year of hunting certain animals, there are very few "extenuating circumstances" that allow you to mortally wound another human (and then quietly eat their remains).

Only one food truck in their database around Raleigh NC :(

    • ajerman

Yeah, I'm hoping to see more of the RTP trucks show up. I always miss them.
