I'll wager that you haven't been to an action movie in the last two years without a trailer blaring great farting blasts of brass at you over quick cuts and helicopter shots. If it works for Hollywood, perhaps LG hopes it will work for Seoul. The company is teasing its upcoming G3 flagship in no uncertain way with a new teaser, no doubt intended to whet the appetites of gadget hounds before the press event on May 27th.

The video features fleeting glances of the phone's design, hints of a metal case, LG's rear-mounted power and volume buttons, a camera with optical image stabilization, and of course, the BWAAAAA noise from Inception. This "teaser" shows basically the entire physical design, and indeed, it seems to match the leak we posted last week in a bombastic golden hue, complete with the odd "chin" on the front portion of the phone's case. Hard specifications are not part of the short video, but the last shot might hint at another see-through flip case. Or it's just a weird visual element for the video. Either one.

The tacit confirmation of a metal body is interesting, if only because it will finally give LG a clear and decisive advantage over Samsung's flagship. And if LG holds true to form, the hardware underneath will be a considerable bump up from last year's G2 - rumors indicate a possible 2560x1440 screen and 3GB of RAM. A new class of material design might make the G3 worth a look from buyers, if only because the sheen will make it hard to ignore.

LG's London event is set for two weeks from today.

Why does everyone wanna do their releases in London all of a sudden?

    • GreatNews

They are doing it in NYC and another place as well

    • http://petercast.net Peterson Silva

Cause London is awesome! o/ =D

Wouldn't it be awesome if, inside the circle (of the smart case?) it ran android wear...

      Android Where?

        In the Smart Case...

Sorry about my lack of skills here :-P

Sorry about my lack of skill ;-)

    • Matthew Jacobson

Are you sure that is a case? Looking at the frame of the video, it just seems to be a shot of the front of the phone without any cover.

  • vyktorsouza

a bit too much, but I like it

  • Michael Tran

I saw what appeared to be premium speakers thumping but doubt that was from the phone as the leaks show what appears to be only one speaker. Excited to see if they can cram that larger screen into the same sized phone as the G2.

    • redsnowfox

G2 was already pushing the limits for a 5.2" screen, i highly doubt they can fit a 5.5" there.

      • Grayson

Exactly. They will fit a 5.5" screen... into a phone that is now too big to use with one hand.

        • Cody Shiranai

Too big for your small hands sure. I have an S4 and it's TOO SMALL for me. I need a Note or another phablet and my next phone will definitely be one.

I wonder if that time circle implies an AMOLED screen. This and the One M8 are the only phones this year to really get my attention, hopefully LG doesn't ruin it with a horrible UI.

    • dude

It's a good possibility, LG does make OLED displays.

  • GreatNews

I just can't wait for this phone to be released so I could get one for my self since I have now the LG G2!!! I hope this announcement will be also a release announcement at the same time on May 27th

  • 2Kings

is this really metall and not just metall looking plastic?
we've seen the back cover is removable and the white version definitely doesn't seem to be made out of metall..

    • Cory S

if its metal it probably doesn't have wireless charging, unless there is some breakthrough I haven't heard about....So I'll be out on this one.

    • Guillaume

It has to be. Look at all these blades and listen to these metal sounds. It definitely is.

    • Wall Breaker

The HTC One M7 had a removable back version but it never was released in the U.S. so it is possible.

  • MrJigolo

The less bezels the better. Can't wait to see the next Nexus now.

    • Justin S

Just like the Nexus 5 was a "downgraded" G2, the next Nexus will be a "downgraded" G3. Just go for the real thing. disclaimer: Im saying this as a (scorn) VZW user who will never see another Nexus (Silver?) device.....

      • Alex

        G3 vs Note 4
I want, don't want to wait... I'm itching!

        • Guillaume

          For me it's G3 / N4 / OPO

          • Grayson

You can probably still find an old N4 on Craigslist.

          • Guillaume

            No I meant NOTE 4 ;)

          • Grayson

            I know ;)

          • Guillaume

            I know you know :)

      • Grayson

I don't know, I appreciate the smaller size, nicer feeling matte finish, wireless charging, non-retarded button placement, non-hideous software, and much better price of the Nexus 5. Enjoy your G2 and to each his own.

        • http://mwinter.in/ Yan Gabriel Minário

          "non-retarded button placement"

      • Wall Breaker

the G2 was a great phone, but the build quality and software were lacking thats what caused me to give it up for my current Nexus 5, no regrets.

With That being said this very well may be the device that causes me to toss my Nexus 5 and jump back to LG.

  • dude

I can't think of anything by LG's UI and overblown display saturation when watching this video.

  • Venky

Metal body, slim bezels, OIS..if only it had an oven to go with it :p

  • ytcracka

Please have Qi charging! I bought a charger for my Nexus 7 and I would like to use it with this too.

    • Justin S

VZW G2 user have Qi charging, hopefully we keep it for the G3

  • supremekizzle

Fuck yes are the only words that I can think if right now. Did you see how far up that timer went on the screen? That top bezel is insanely small!!!

  • http://404err0r.com/ Henry Park

So htc One m8 anyone? :P

    • Denis

yes, they are both "phones". is there anything else you had in mind?

  • BAM1789

Can someone please grab some HiRes screens from this video? Or maybe AP can? Pausing and rewinding is getting annoying.

    • Cody Shiranai

Or you could just rip the video yourself and make your own screenshots. Hell, I could do it in SECONDS.

Rip the video from Youtube and VLC already has a speed control. BAM, instant screenshots engine.

EDIT: Yep, already done. It's not like there's THAT much to see in the video. I'm sure that on purpose BECAUSE of people who will do exactly what I just did. Scan the video on slowmo for clues, so they aren't giving they aren't already willing to give up as a tease.

  • Mandeep Singh

Well if they go 1080p instead of 1440p and increase the battery I am gonna replace my note 2 with this

  • Matthew Fry

Lets hope it isn't friggin 7" across so we can still use it as a phone :-P But seriously, I hope it's <= 5.2"

  • BlauweVogel

All I am asking from LG is to change their UI to less Hello Kitty.

  • Wall Breaker

Looks good, i think this is LG's year. I liked the concept of the G Flex and the G2 was a great phone. I just might toss my Nexus 5 for the G3. We shall see.

  • RXG9

It wouldbe awesome if this has a removable battery.

  • Minkyrich

What are the blades in the video and what metal sounds are you referring to?

  • Tommy

G has impressed us with the G3 which comes in at under £500 but packs amazing features including that Quad HD and a camera with a laser auto focus. The device is surprisingly small considering the 5.5in display and we like the more premium design. It's another winner from LG. And if you have decided to become a proud owner of this device, perhaps you’re in the market for a solid and beautiful protection case as well.
