In case you were getting bored with the already reasonable selection of official Nexus 5 accessories on the Play Store, Google has just slipped in a new series of Google-branded snap cases for the phone, priced at $29.99 and coming in Black, Aqua, Silver, White, and Clear variants.

The cases look pretty sleek, wrapping around the sides and back of the device, adding a Google logo to the back, and leaving the top and bottom edges open. It's hard to say how the cases feel (we'll find out soon), but from the images, the colored versions seem to have a matte finish while the clear variant looks glossy. Is this sleekier than RingkeSLIM cases? Aqua color looks great!

  • Grayson

I assume this is just a rebranded version of the official LG case that has been available for some time. If so, they do fit really well and are barely noticeable visually as they are very thin, but the bottom edge is very sharp and can irritate your pinky if you rest your phone on it while using it one handed.

    • Fadakar

Can't be, the LG case wraps around the top.

I know because I've been looking for one for months but it's completely unattainable for a reasonable price in the US. I settled on a Rearth Ringke Slim, but I really want something that wraps around the top.

      • Grayson

Ah, yeah, you're right. Not sure I agree with you about attainability though. I had no problem ordering it from a Canadian site a couple months ago for like $18 shipped.

        • Fadakar

Is it the one with the LG branding in the center or the one that retains the nexus logo in the center?

          • Grayson

            LG

  • SpiderDice

Why would you not preview the white case with the white phone?

    • Sheldon H Henderson

      Because. That's why.

      • http://AndroidPolice.com/ Liam Spradlin

This is the most logical assumption.

    • Grayson

Probably to show that you can change the color of your phone.

  • Flatbush Ounce

    F a new case. Where's 4.4.3???????

    • turdbogls

damn, I've never seen so many people interested in an incremental update like 4.4.3

      • darkdude1

Possibly because it fixes a few breaking bugs with the nexus 5 and within android.

        • turdbogls

oh yeah, I keep forgetting about the camera bug....it never effected me (not a snapchat or instagram user). I guess that explains it.

          • matt

Same here I havent even had any of the bugs happen to me and I've had a nexus 5 since release. For sure getting one of these though because of the open top and bottom. Most cases I've had have don't have big enough cut outs on the headphone jack which is a problem with certain aux cables

          • turdbogls

Save some cash and get the Spigen ultra fit from amazon. has open top and bottom, and a nice finish to it.

doesn't say google on it, but is that really worth 15 bucks?
also, it kinda looks like the volume/power buttons will be tough to press they way they are recessed in there. not an issue with the Spigen.

          • matt

Yeah I really like the spigen cases to begin with plus it seems like it really works like a case should

          • turdbogls

            YUP

  • sivkai

US only. Here we go again.

    • Jack

Canada here, link works fine. Ships in 1-2 days.

    • jani jokela

      Finland got them too

  • scuttlefield

Looks quite similar to the Spigen (which I have) and Ringke cases that have been our forever. Why is Google so pokey with their accessories?!

  • CerealFTW

I'm in love with this case but $30 is too damn much

    • turdbogls

look into the spigen ultra fit. looks VERY similar to this but for 1/4 the price

      • Mayoo

But ... but ... it doesn't say Google behind it. This is well worth the extra $20.

      • matt

I use the spigen neo hybrid and it's one of my favorite cases ever

        • ddpacino

Have the Ultra hybrid and love it.

      • CerealFTW

I got this instead because reviewers complained that the spigen ultra fit scratched the corners of their phones. I've been using it for 3+ months and it's great

  • Connor Mason

Hopefully these aren't awful quality like the official bumper case

    • http://AndroidPolice.com/ Liam Spradlin

We'll find out soon! I've got one on the way and will write up a quick review.

      • Connor Mason

        Thanks!

    • Tony Tien

What's so awful about it? I haven't used one personally, but isn't it just an overpriced TPU case?

      • Connor Mason

The back top and bottom edges angle away from the device in away that makes the phone much larger than it needs to be in the case. Also, the material wears away really quickly along the edges in a peeling way. It is truly an overpriced, mediocre case. On the other hand it protects the phone pretty well

        • Tony Tien

I see. Thanks for the info.

        • Bart Cunningham

I haven't had any peeling or anything with my black model yet. It still looks exactly as it did when purchased. I am fairly happy with the case.

  • Jephri

    Oh snap

    • Sam Del Valle

      Pun intended

  • lordmerovingian

$20 overpriced. Looks like the awesome Ringke i got off Amazon/eBay/etc for less than 10 bucks...

    • TheLastAngel

Awesome...yes, after you sand down the edges :P

  • http://dabuxian.com/ Dabu

I wish actual device's back was so simple, just a Google logo.

  • rocs_macho

So a more expensive Spigen case?

  • Zak Taccardi

No Nexus branding on the back?

    • NinoBr0wn

Don't want to risk being obsolete >:(

  • alamarco

Why no red? Red phone finally comes out, and new cases with no red? Argh!

  • http://rayshq.com/ Ray

Looks identical to the Spigen and Ringke Slim cases I got off eBay.
    1) They were half the price though.
    2) They were available to those outside the US.

Price aside, Google, why you no love anyone outside the US?

    • MyLeftNut

Exactly. Great cases at half the price. I have that case in three colors (all but red) and I absolutely love that they are the only slim case that precision cut the holes for the lens and flash. I hate that most cases just have one large hole for both. Accessories straight from the OEM are always, without fail, overpriced. Google is no different there.

    • impulse101

I have the Ringke Slim case which is a little better than the Spigen one with its sharp edges. That being said I am getting this clear Google one because I'm rich.

    • TheLastAngel

What is especially enraging about Google is their politics in the EU. If they sell in France and Germany for example, there is nothing stopping them from shipping to any other EU country. I hate them for this.

      • fastfooddiet

Except they would need to comply to local warranties, customs, VAT reporting and all legal BS. Complain to your government, not Google.

  • NemaCystX

I think Spigen infact produces the cases for Google unbranded.

    • MyLeftNut

You can't use "I think" and "infact" in the same sentence. Not important really, just being a dick by pointing it out.

  • whispy_snippet

Perhaps telling that the covers say "Google" and not "Nexus"...

  • ProductFRED

    $30 lol.

  • Anonymous

I just bought the Spigen Ultra Fit. Looks quite similar to that.

  • Sophia Patel

    wow new case.........

  • Nvrhde

Sorry about out of focus question.
    Where is Artem?

  • http://www.glu7.com/ Larissa Hadley

i dont think so its expansive.

    http://www.glu7.com/

  • Emexci Life

    dear Google,
    never mind..

  • Josh Perlstein

Monoprice sells incredible snap cases for about 3 bucks each plus shipping. 30 bucks, Google? Grr

  • WarRaven

At $10-15, sold two to me.
But not at that price, that's as crazy as $50 for LGs flip cover case.
As well as pointed out, could be same quality as first snap on cases that peeled their edges in short order.

  • ghetto McKee

Android Police check out cider! Its a project by some students that lets you run iOS apps on android and they already have a working alpha!

    • http://www.Nave360.com Sebastian Gorgon

Won't go very far, Apple will do everything in their power to stop them.

  • Anthrox

I think more Colours are in need Purple, Red, Pink and just maybe a Blue!

  • kpjimmy

Hmmm Spigen Ultra fit I assume would be the same or maybe superior to this. I mean the Spigen even has a Nexus logo imprinted on it. Granted it doesn't have the Google logo, but we bought the phone for the NEXUS line, not Google. Meh....

  • fED

Thirty bucks for a piece of colored plastic? They can shove it up their asses!

  • ddpacino

Not sure why, but that teal is quite appealing to me. Wish they had my fav color blue!

    • Johnny Strat

They sell a skin can turn it blue! (as you see I did with mine)

  • tutu

it doesn't fully cover the phone at the top and bottom, hard plastic scratches the phone like the spigen ulta thin air, no protection compared to a tpu case like the cruzerlite bugdroid circuit case, too expensive. why the hack are they selling that case?

  • Johnny Strat

I bought a skin for my nexus which makes it look as colorful as this case:

    Got it at dbrand: http://bit.ly/1kSp5nn
