BuildNumber-Thumb

Each version of Android is assigned a tasty treat to identify it by: Donut, Eclair, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, Jelly Bean, Jelly Bean, KitKat, so on and so forth. This is great for casual reference, but short build codes are provided to refer to more specific versions. This has been the case since before the DRC83 build of Android. Don't know which one that is? Check out our new Android Build Number Date Calculator to find out!

BuildNumber2

That's right, folks. With our new tool, all you have to do is type in the build number, and it will spit the version number and build date out for you in a more easily readable format. Sure, you could read the Android developer docs to make sense of the short build code on your own, but we're here to do that for you. Our tool slices through those cryptic letters, dices up confusion, and serves up answers fresh and hot. Normally you would expect to pay a fortune for this kind of convenience, but we're giving it away for absolutely free! That's right, free!

Bertel King, Jr.
Born and raised in the rural South, Bertel knows what it's like to live without 4G LTE - or 3G, for that matter. The only things he likes sweeter than his tea are his gadgets, and while few objects burn more than a metal phone on a summer day, he prefers them that way anyway.

And there's that new and shiny Android Police logo again... Stop teasing us!

  • Paarth Desai

  • ewad

    NEW ANDROID POLICE LOGO

  • vidoardes

The word 'calculator' seems a bit of a stretch... Looker-upper might be more accurate

    • Jimmy Graham

No, it actually parses the input: http://www.androidpolice.com/android-build-number-date-calculator/

      Try typing FRZ85 into it.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

What Jimmy said. It's not a looker upper. It uses logic to spit out the date.

      • Maxime Henrion

'Calculator' still sounds kinda wrong to me, for what it's worth. Maybe 'decoder' or something. Clearly not a big deal though.

Great tool... what will happen after July 8, 2015, the "Z99" date? Will Android disappear to merge with Chrome or what? LOL

(And I didn't like that new logo, sorry.)

    • h4rr4r

      That was my first thought.
Bad date format if it only lasts that long.

    • JD_26

easter egg giving a hint at when nexus line will end >??????

      • http://ignaciozippy.com/ Ignacio Zippy

  • Wilberth Barrantes

  • Chris

Can I put in a future version and get the release date? :)

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

You can get a build date :-)

      • hp420

It wouldn't tell me anything about the 'L' release!! I think it's broken :(

  • Michael J Carroll

    What's the plan after July 8, 2015?

    • http://ignaciozippy.com/ Ignacio Zippy

Merging with Chrome OS... or simply continuing with something like "xxAA01" for July 1, 2015; "xxAB01" for October 1 and so forth.

      • Michael J Carroll

You heard it here, folks. Ignacio Zippy predicts that July 8, 2015 is the official release date for Chromedroid.

        • http://ignaciozippy.com/ Ignacio Zippy

The Android Doomsday... LOL! I don't even want that.

        • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

Chromedroid? Damn, that actually sounds nice!

  • http://www.Nave360.com Sebastian Gorgon

Seeing that new logo again, you just love teasing it... first tease I recall was with that email few months ago about a redesign

  • KidCarter93

Any chance of adding OEM build numbers into the app as well? The likes of HTC and Samsung apparently like to make things awkward by adding tons of letters and numbers.

It's nothing that a quick Google search couldn't find but may as well ask.

  • Ricardo A. Fragoso

Jelly Bean, Jelly Bean, Jelly Bean....LOL

  • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

    Oh
    My
    God

    That logo!

    Something epic is coming
