Motorola has a lot of apps in the Play Store to enhance its devices over time without a ROM update – even the boot animation. Motorola's newest boot animation is now playing on a Moto X/G near you. Don't have a Moto device? We've got the video for you.

Moto X and G owners can hit the Play Store and update the app to see the pretty new spring-themed visuals. The last seasonal animation was for April Fools, and before that we had a non-denominational holiday version. I hope Motorola keeps this up – it's a fun little extra. Note, there's a new permission this time for location. I'm not sure why the app needs it, but just be aware.

I'd imagine the location check would be to check your hemisphere. Wouldn't make a lot of sense for a spring animation if you're going into fall.

This is a good point, but it assumes the existence of a world outside of America. I don't subscribe to that particular philosophy.

        What's "outside"?

I think it's that place that has weather.

i'm from brazil and here it's a animation abot autunm.

        • Roh_Mish

Moto G and X are both available in India. If I am correct G is launched in Europe and Brazil too.

          • VFXX

X is available in Brazil too

    • AluKed

It is location aware and, indeed, it has different boot animations for different hemispheres. Around here we're seeing a cute squirrel doing squirrely things and lots of dry leaves.

    • Leandro Brandão

Here in my brother moto g he received a different boot animation for the fall.

    • Phillipe Viana

Moto X user in the South hemisphere here, we got a fall animation indeed.

  • Adam Howard

How come a bright white background? I only ever seem to reboot at night....adios, night vision!

    • Aooga

+1. Why do people like a white UI? It's horrible at night and drains more battery on AMOLED screens. iOS 7 is by far the worst of them all when it comes to white UIs.

      • Matthew Fry

        iOS devices aren't AMOLED though.

        • pfmiller

          Still horrible at night.

          • Roh_Mish

My ipad gets far more dimmer than my nexus devices (4,,7) so I don't thing that brightness is an issue. And battery life is more than my nexus 7.
Not that I don't like my 7. I love it and it is far better in every other aspects but the battery life and display brightness is where my ipad shines.

        • Aooga

White still hurts your eyes at night. You can get f.lux on iOS, but only if you're jailbroken.

  • Henrique Persechini

This is a cute feature, I would like to see on nexus devices

  • dafew

    This is childish

  • Joery

I thought Motorola put a 'Powered by Android' text in their bootanimation?

    • Kareem Ayman

I think the "Powered by Android" text is only displayed on the splash screen.

  • Cesar

Someone should post a video of the Southern Hemisphere version. I want to see the fall boot animation.

  • Jona Reyes

here is the animation for the southern hemisphere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGeZJ5XV0pM

  • whoo

dude, this is why I want the Moto G.. only $99 & you get little system updates like this?.. & since my Desire on virgin may not even get 4.4.2, which is 100% unacceptable, my next phone will probably be a Motorola.

  • Franco García Bailez

The title may be "season boot animation"

  • numpty

Nice little animation, shame it makes the Android logo plastered across the bottom look even more tacky and amateurish than ever. Why Google persist with it I dunno.

  • selonmoi

Awesome. It's amazing what being a part of Google did for the culture at Motorola.

I hope Lenovo lets them continue to build on that.

  • Daire O Connor

Who are all these miserable shit bags that complaints about these changes on the play store!? People are getting seriously angry just cause they're boot animation has a bird in it. Love this feature and I wish more phones had it!

  • kael

i'm from brazil and here it's a animation abot autunm
