Google's gaming hub on Android is getting an update today with a few noteworthy tweaks, and as usual, we have an APK for you to download. You wouldn't want to look at your achievements in anything but the latest and greatest, right?

What's New

  • Redesigned slide-out nav bar – 'My Activity' replaced with linked profile pic
  • Notifications for gifts and requests
  • 'Matches' is now 'Inbox'

The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.

And in doing so, you just made one *universe unravels*

        Inb4 multiverse debate :p

Universe wouldn't unravel, a parallel universe was just created where you never made the comment

damn... i was going to... but that delay...

A while back, Google accidentally changed the "What's New" text on the Google Play Store for this app, then quickly changed it back (but not without me seeing it first :P) and it looks like this update fits the changelog. I remember what the earlier, accidental message was:

Polished interface, stability improvements and bug fixes"

I can't wait to see if they're changing the text or if my wording is perfect now! :D

    • SSDROiD

So close! (Well, at least the second sentence :P)

      - See requests and gifts from friends all in one place

      - Visual polish, stability improvements, and bug fixes"

Cool story bro. I'm sure a lot of people are relieved.

Now all we need is for more game developers to actually start implementing support for Google Play Games. I get so sad every time I find a game I have hopes for, only to see it has no support for Play Games, which kind of ruins it for me :(

    • Thomas’

Support for Play Games services is actually quite high in the top 500 games.
Though it still should and will improve.

I wish we could that there was an option to remove games from the Google Now Launcher if you are using Google Play Games. I like using this app as a game launcher and I don't need all those game icons mucking up my app drawer when I have this.

"'My Activity' replaced with linked profile pic"

Must be a mistake. That Google service is shutting down (sarcasm)

Unfortunately none of the games I play uses Google Play Games in a meaningful way. Can anyone give me an example where a game offers some kind of useful integration with Google Play Games?

Riptide GP2 let's you save your data on the cloud and sync online. So you can continue your game on a phone or tablet at anytime. You can also join and submit game invites for online play I think.
