The market for gigantic waterproof phones just got a lot more competitive. Google has slashed the price of the Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition by $200. That brings the price down from $649 to a much more respectable $449.

The Z Ultra is a huge smartphone with a Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM, and a 6.4-inch 1080p screen. This version of the phone is unlocked with support for almost all GSM/LTE networks, including T-Mobile and AT&T in the US. It also runs stock Android 4.4.2.

It's awfully early to have such a big price cut on the device, so perhaps it wasn't selling very well. It wouldn't really be surprising, seeing as it's so humungous. There are no sale dates listed on the Google Play store page, so this might be a permanent price reduction. If you want it, go for it.
