If you want a Note 3 but don't want to pay top dollar for it, you might be in luck. Though this is almost certainly a mistake, AT&T is presently selling refurbished Galaxy Note 3s in both black and white via its website for $249.99 off contract, or $99.99 with a two-year agreement.

Of course, there's no guarantee that AT&T will honor your order and actually ship the device, but if it does, you will have bragging rights for a long time to come. Before you buy, it should also be noted that the carrier won't sell these free-and-clear without a plan attached. New customers will have to pick a plan and pay a $36 activation fee. Existing subscribers will need to add this to their account by putting it on either a current or new line of service. If you want to try your hand at this deal, you'd be well-advised to do so quickly. There's no telling how long before Big Blue realizes this error and corrects it.

The price could be right because here in Canada they were selling refurbished/like new GS4's for $250 outright

koodo mobile kiosks have them for $250 not sure if they sold out yet, call them around you. But you have to activate a line and cancel it the same day. Will cost you $250 + tax + 1 day of service

      • Ramsey

        Who was selling for 250?

    • dude

Dude, thank you. I just ordered a a red one as a gift for my brother returning from duty. I hope they honor the deal. I'll figure out the unlocking later, but worse case is using AIO or StraightTalk.

For the price of a Moto G, it's not bad.

      • dude

They canceled my order too. Oh well.

    • Michael Jones

Yeah between the note 3, Galaxy S4 for 180 and the GS3 (edit ** Mini GS3) for 50 bucks outright it seems like ATT is doing these on purpose.

  • Alexander

Needs a social security number damn it! I've order four and not able to check out :'(

    • Sam Hollis

Why don't you have one? It's only for people in the US, so...

      • Alexander

I am not from US but I could order to the address. AT&T works just fine here, I had a Moto Atrix 4g

  • Andrew Goodwin

If you try to buy it out right it comes to 674.99. Apparently they mean that a non refurbished Note 3 would be 249.00 on contract while a refurbished one is 99.00. A little trickery on their part / false advertisement :-)

    • Connor Mason

that's not what happened to me. I am ineligible for an upgrade, so it would be impossible for me to get an 2 year contract price

      • Andrew Goodwin

I figured out why that was happening to me...I have a premium account (monthly discount because of place of employment) that blocks me from receiving this discount. Hope it works for everyone else!

        • Connor Mason

I don't think it's a discount. It's the set price of an off contract refurbished Note 3, meaning anyone could access it. You probably missed something on the product page

          • Andrew Goodwin

That is what an att representative told me...It doesn't make sense but that is what they said. I contacted them because it said $249 until I signed into my account then it went to $675.

          • Connor Mason

I just read some comments on the slick deals post and other people were having similar issues. That's a pretty strange reason to not be able to buy an off contract phone.

          • Dustin

That's correct. For some reason, customers with a FAN (foundation account number), which is an employee discount account, have a different store front than regular IRU (individual responsibility user) accounts. The discount only appeared to non-FAN customers.

  • Connor Mason

Order submitted. Also note the Lumia 925 is $79 off contract

  • 2node

Ordered and received email within 5 minutes that order has processed and is at warehouse to ship. I was maybe a little hasty, need to figure out if I can Sim unlock and use on T-Mobile as I'm more than happy with my $30 prepaid 5GB plan

    • Matthew Merrick

To the best of my knowledge, you'll get old 3G and HSPA+42, but not LTE or the more common HSPA+21.

    • WithTechFriends.com

How did you place the order without selecting a plan?

      • 2node

You have to select a plan, either eat the cost of the lowest priced plan at $45 and use it to test AT&T for a month.

        • Anant

I ordered one right now, got a confirmation email. I chose the $45 plan but I'm planning to use this phone with my AT&T Go Phone Sim card. Can I cancel the monthly plan right away or Do I need to wait a month ?

          • Eric D

Cancel within 3 days and get refunded youre activation fees too. Fyi

          • Justin Myers

Might take three days to arrive!?

          • arf01

Mine just arrived via FedEx - very cool! I won't see it until I get home from work, but I will then call AT&T and cancel their plan. Good stuff!

          • Joe

Sounds good and I will do the same tomorrow too. Please let us know how it went. :)

          • arf01

I just cancelled the PLAN with AT&T, and did not activate. A very nice girl at AT&T said there were NO activation charges, and no plan charges, since I never activated it. So the NOTE 3 is now free and clear for the $249 price, unlocked! Now I need to pop in the Straight Talk SIM card (they use the AT&T network, so all will be well). Hopefully everything will work fine!

I will use the "Samsung Smart Switch" app, which supposedly carries everything over from one Samsung (Note 2) over to a new Samsung (Note 3) - hopefully it will work, even though my old Note 2 is rooted, and uses Nova launcher -- and the new Note 3 is NOT rooted, and is all stock / Kit Kat. We'll see how that all pans out!

        • arf01

I ordered it early Saturday (before it was all over the web). Asked the Live chat helper if there were ANY other fees, beyond the $36 activation fee, and he said no. Asked if there were any ETF fees, and he said no, as it is a no-contract phone. I asked how fast I could cancel the plan I picked ($45 lowest monthly no-contract plan), and he said I could cancel it when I get the phone. Of course I saved all of the text from the Live chat conversation.

They shipped it Sat night, and it is expected to arrive today (Tuesday). Let's see what happens when it arrives, and I go to activate it! (I am going to switch it over immediately to Straight Talk's AT&T plan, since I have the plan/SIM card with them now = perhaps I don't need to activate it with AT&T!??!)

          • 2node

From what I've read on the deal websites, if you cancel the new line within 3 days of ordering (which would be today for you), the activation fee is waived and you won't be charged the 1st month of service. Since you're using Straight Talk, you don't need to activate at all.

          • arf01

Thanks for the info! I was going to cancel the AT&T plan once I got the phone (might not be until tomorrow). Perhaps I should cancel it today, even though I don't have the phone yet. I am guessing they can't stop the shipment at this point!?!

          • 2node

I'd wait as long as you can today before cancelling. Once it's at your local FedEx depot you should be safe, but it sounds like in the past AT&T has had shipments rerouted if a line was cancelled early in the shipping process.

          • arf01

Good idea! Perhaps I'll be very safe, and wait for it to arrive. It will be well worth the $36 activation fee (and even the $45 1st month if necessary, to save the hundreds of $ on the phone itself). I could even keep it for the 45 days, and get the $100 back maybe!

  • WithTechFriends.com

Was anyone able to order one on a mobile share plan? they're telling me it isn't compatible with my plan?

  • snobrdr2324

I ordered one on a new line and plan on never even activating the device and canceling the line immediately to use it on my current ATT plan.

    • Zaatour36

activate it on a new line for 45days and get $100 credit, then cancel it :)

      • Yakuzahi

        Wth ETF?!?

        • Zaatour36

Without since your gonna pay full price, and just add it to your plan

    • RSA

did you ever do that in past? it looks like we have to activate a service ( with activation fee of 36$) and then we have to cancel it.

      • snobrdr2324

I haven't no but even if I do have to activate it for some reason, they will refund you any activation fees if done within 3 days. Unfortunately a couple of people posted here saying their orders got cancelled so I'm not getting my hopes up.

        • RSA

Yep. They cancelled my order too!

          • snobrdr2324

Did they just now cancel it today? I know some people said theirs was cancelled on Saturday but mine has been "in progress" all weekend. Some people says theirs have shipped so I have no idea what's going to happen.

          • RSA

No i ordered yesterday and they cancelled my order saying "Unfortunately, we were either unable to verify the information you provided or you have exceeded the number of lines of service that we allow customers to purchase online. As a result, your order has been canceled." and the current price is 589.99 :(

  • Newb

Can it be used on Verizon?

    • WithTechFriends.com

    • dude

AT&T is GSM, Verizon is CDMA, so no.

  • Grant Currie

    Damn!! It don't work!

  • Zach Mauch

boo. Wish there was a way without an AT&T account

I have ATT grandfather $20 plan and it allows me to buy it on current plan for $265 with tax. Thinking about it as I am perfectly fine with NOte2

Me too. Guess they don't want my money.

      • ppb

att killed off many if not most orders, without much of an explanation. then tried to reroute customers to its retail stores, which tried to sell same phone for much more. pure bait and switch. i am not letting this go away quietly, started a thread on at&t's community board, got their social media and not executive office involved (?) too. here's a link to my issue, feel free to add:

  • Corey Watford

Thanks AP for the tip, grabbed two yesterday (Went through just fine) Still deciding if I will keep one for myself, as I pretty happy with my rooted Nexus 5

  • Deb

My husband just got the refurb Note 3 at the AT&T Store for @249, no contract, and I got the refurb Galaxy S4, no contract, for $179. He's already gone to AIO, I will in about a week. I was able to get the free $50 in the ISIS wallet immediately. Pretty nice!

  • David Li

Mine went through, just shipped from Fort Worth TX, I guess they ran out of stock so they canceled orders that they could not fulfill.

It jumped back up to $674 today. Mine shipped already for $265 (after tax). I'm feeling incredibly lucky. This was clearly a mistake by someone at ATT, but I'll take it!!!

  • Joe

Mine is coming in tomorrow but I will cancel service and unlock it to use on TM. Anyone got theirs and done that already? Will AT&T ask their phone back? Please reply since I am getting a little nervous. :)

    • David Li

AT&T doesn't ask for their phone back. I just canceled my plan. But my phone did have major problems, so I need to exchange it ($35 restocking fee + a long wait time for shipping). Please be aware that this phone lacks AWS 3G WCDMA so you may not have a decent data signal in rural areas on T-Mobile.

      • Joe

Thanks David. Good luck with your exchange. Fingers cross when I open the box tonight. >_<

        • David Li

Is your phone pristine? My phone's screen flickered whenever I was doing anything other than looking at a still image.

          • Joe

After playing it for a day I think my two devices are fine. Sorry to hear your deflective one. :(

  • David Li

Received mine, but the screen his issues, gonna exchange it (shipping takes forever)
