The procrastinators out there have missed their chance to (maybe) give Google $900 for a ticket to Google I/O this year. The registration window is closed, but we don't yet know who's going. That news will hit this coming Monday.

The morning of April 21st, Google expects to alert the winners of I/O slots via email. At that time, they will pay up the registration fee and all will be well. Even if you don't win a spot in the (supposedly) random drawing, Google will still send you an email to confirm that you did not win. So, don't get too excited when you spot that I/O email Monday morning.

Google I/O is happening on June 25-26th this year with a greater focus on design. As usual, we expect Google will hand out some fabulous freebies at the show. Maybe some Android Wear devices? We can only hope.

Waiting until the 21st sucks. Why couldn't they do it today after it closes.
A lot of hotels are being booked in the area already and prices keep going up every day.
    This sucks.

    • http://emuneee.com Evan

Agreed, even though I booked (can still get a refund) my hotel right after I registered for IO and got a decent rate.

    • John Smith

yeah I had the person in HR book me a refundable hotel. There will be a lot of cancelations...

If they are choosing randomly, they should be able to have everyone selected as soon as registrations are over. Unless they have to hand check all the entrants or something. ....Orrr they could be hand picking :)

  • Daniel Traynor

$900 is not far off a months wages for me!! :(

    • fahadayaz

To be fair, we did know about ticket sales months ago.

  • http://nopenopenope.nope Ryuuie

Why are they doing this "random people are selected" thing anyway? It's not like people were selling tickets on eBay or whatever.

    • nxtiak

Because all the previous years, it would sell out in 5 minutes, or the website would crash, etc...

    • jordanjay29

To encourage a wider base of attendees than just those who can spam-click Google for 5 minutes on a particular day. Which sucks for those abroad or with slow internet connections.

  • Alex

I was lucky enough to find an easter egg code. :)

Well, by "lucky" I mean I spent hours working on it, but still lucky.

Good luck to everyone in the general lottery!

    • nishas

      Hey Alex,
I had a friend who did the same thing (spent hours looking for an easter egg) and he managed to find one. However in his excitement, he failed to enter one of the 3 options that were presented at the end (yes, its absurd). Could you reveal what those options were? He hasn't received his confirmation code, so we think he might have screwed up.

      • Alex

There were no real options. They were all piece of text until it got to the part where it asked you to confirm your email address.

I had to collect about 100 of the urls before I found one that wasn't used. If he found one that wasn't used he would have seen a big CONGRATS and also received an email an hour later telling him he was in. My email said this:

"This email confirms that you've earned the opportunity to purchase a ticket for Google I/O 2014. You'll receive a second email on April 21 with your registration code. Until then, sit back and relax - no need to submit a registration application on our website during the official registration window."

        Good luck to your friend.

        • Nishas

Thanks for clarifying, Alex! He hasn't yet received any emails but we'll keep our fingers crossed!

I just hope that the only people who pay the money and go to the show are actually people that can advance the technology in some way--whether they be developers, media, coders, entrepreneurs, specialists, researchers, etc.

    • SSDROiD

Which is exactly why I feel like that Good Guy meme at the moment. I love Google so much and wanted to go, but common sense dictates that this thing is more important and valuable to developers and other technological masterminds. I'd rather they go and make something extraordinary out of what is shown that I can hopefully someday get great use from, and I can otherwise watch live streams of the most important keynote(s). :)

      • http://www.LOVEanon.org/ Michael Oghia (Ogie)

        Good for you mate! :)

  • slurivariv

Well, sadly, they refunded my $900 already, so I want to say it's a safe bet that if you don't have your money back, you weren't chosen.

    • Anthony Wingfield

Sorry to hear about that.. Mine hasn't but I still feel like it's a long shot

    • jordanjay29

Actually, Google only sent an authorization request to your bank, which expires after a few days. They won't charge your account (according to the terms you agreed to when you registered) until Monday if you've won.

      • slurivariv

That sounds much better than losing already, lol. Let's hope their's still a chance for me.

  • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

I wonder when they'll release the I/O app

    • Mike Evans

Probably around the time the schedule comes out. Few weeks maybe.

  • David

I'm sure lots of holds will come off for the people who don't win!

  • Brayden Reesor

    Anyone get a notification yet?

    • Kat Kennedy Archibald

I'm wondering the same thing! watching my inbox like a hawk

      • Mark

They have started the drawings. I just got mine :D

          I haven't gotten anything yet

          • Caleb

Im still waiting too :( anyone hear back?

    • Cael

I have nothing. I want to know if I can spend this money on something else or not xD

    • Aooga

I turned auto-sync on just for this!

    • Billy

Ugh....watching my inbox like crazy too! lol
This is worst than waiting for every week's new GoT episode :P

    • Guest

A friend of mine just got the notification and it said they're sending him a free M8 and Google Glass!!

      • Brayden Reesor

        • Guest

          Is this for real?

    • Jonathan

1 dollar was deducted on my card and then refunded today. Transaction title beginning with checkcardprice ... Could this mean I am getting a ticket?

      • Brayden Reesor

Sounds like it's just the authorization procedure for your bank.

    • Jonathan

      Is there still hope?

    • Jonathan

Just got a mail saying I didnt get it. This blows
