If you have anything from Belkin's WeMo line, there's a chance you may be less-than-pleased with the app – it is pretty basic, after all. Today's update, however, brings some much-needed usefulness to the table, like better integration with IFTTT, and a home security enhancement.
What's New
- Greater flexibility when scheduling events related to sunrise and sunset.
- New Rule: Away Mode makes it look you’re home even when you’re not.
- New IFTTT trigger: long-press the Light Switch to trigger customizable IFTTT recipes without turning on the light.
- Bug fixes and general improvements.
For starters, the new "away mode" will turn lights on and off at random intervals, making it appear as though someone is home even when the house is empty. This should at least aid in keeping any potential wrong-doers away – assuming they don't know about your little WeMo trick in the first place. If that's the case, you may want to reassess your associations. Beyond that, the sunrise/sunset toggle is now more customizable, as it allows for things like the lights to be turned on before dusk, since the house is likely dark before the sun sets in the first place.
Finally, integration with IFTTT has been improved and expanded, with an option for long-press gestures that will allow WeMo users to program additional settings for presses longer than two seconds on the Light Switch. Neato.
The update is already live in the Store, so if you're a WeMo user go ahead and grab it.
