The response to the first Warhammer 40k game on Android wasn't stellar, but that's mainly because it didn't look much like the epic gameplay we'd expect from the franchise. Well, perhaps the newly announced Warhammer 40,000: Carnage will get closer to the mark.

Warhammer 40k: Carnage is a side-scrolling action game that has plenty of shooting and slashing across more than 50 levels. You can upgrade and reequip your space marine to do more damage, and you'll need to do a lot. There's an ork horde to be dealt with on planet Mithra.

The screenshots provided are looking pretty good – certainly more like Warhammer 40k than the last title. As for price, all we know is that it will be a paid title. That at least means any IAPs are more likely to be non-intrusive. We'll find out more next month.

"The uniforms of the Imperial Guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. The principle is that what the enemy cannot see he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine’s armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear…"

To be fair, the 5+ save of the IG (now called Astra Militarum as of this coming saturday) is better than the t-shirt save of 6+ of your bog standard Ork boy.

The beakies (marines) get a 3+ save which is the metagame standard by which all other units in the game are based.

Isn't "beakie" reserved only for Mk 6 armoured marines?

Finally, a somewhat good WH40K game

I thought the PC games were good.

They are, but Dawn of War 2 came out a long time ago, and since then there was no really good WH game, and Space Marine was a pretty bare bones 3D action

Space Marine is awesome. That is all. What a great underrated game.

Looks awesome. I hope they let you play as different race later on, such as Eldar or Tau, I'm bored as hell with Space Marines.

Finally!! But one thing that annoys me to no end is that they ALWAYS focus on Orks in these games and then Chaos as manipulating the Orks.
Why not show something related to the Tyranids or Dark Eldar?

    • primalxconvoy

I think the Orks and Chaos are seen as different from the Tyranids and Eldar as those could be (rightly) confused with Geiger-style "Aliens" and "Vulcans" respectively?
