This weekend's poll's an easy one - Cyanogen Inc's got a new logo, and you'll see it just below.

It's a decidedly more industrial, formal look than their old logo, which features the now-basically-defunct mascot Cid. It also doesn't exactly look like a software company's logo to me - more like a biohazard waste disposal consortium. It just doesn't seem like a good fit. Then again, it's just a logo, and it's a pretty opinion-based discussion, so, let's get subjective - vote in the poll below and let us know what you think of the new branding.

CyanogenMod Inc's new logo - hot or not?

  • Mandeep Singh

    It is good kinda

  • epsiblivion

I hope it is used in their nightlies. but I can see how it might be reserved for phones that are official CM like Oppo.

  • Kree Terry

I like it, I just don't feel it fits the brand. They need to settle on something soon though because changing so frequently kills brand identity.

  • Garrett

I'm having a hard time deciding on my answer. Not good, not bad, but definitely bland and forgettable. Meh.

  • disqus_7XunpanFgK

Lose the extra bit on the front and it would look more like a "C" and fit the name better.

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

It's the GameCube logo turned on its side. I like it, but it's unoriginal.

    • http://rcamp.name/ RCAMP

Ahhhh! It totally is. Can't un-see...

  • Kayton Summers

Looks a lot like the gradle logo.

    • Kenneth Endfinger

      Gradle is amazing right? :P

  • bungadudu

    This should've had a third option - "I don't care"

    • David Hart

      Don't vote :o

      • Gabernasher

But we must vote, it's our civic duty, until we commit a crime and can no longer vote.

        • Android Developer

          Even criminals can vote.

          • lljktechnogeek

In the US, it's state-dependent. Two states allow felons to vote while still in prison, thirteen (plus DC) allow it once they're no longer in prison, four states require the parole period to be completed, another twenty don't restore until after probation, while the remaining eleven have additional requirements ranging from "you have to wait an extra two years" to "only if the state governor gives the okay".

          • Android Developer

Didn't know that. Thought that the voting right is always available for all.
Doesn't it even matter what the crime is?

          • lljktechnogeek

Again, state-dependent. Most of them only strip it for felonies, but some states will bar it to anyone convicted of a misdemeanor for as long as they remain in prison. For other states, it's anyone convicted of an election-related misdemeanor.

This appears to be a relatively decent guide to what states restrict what for how long: http://felonvoting.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=000286

          • duck hairs

That's weird here in aus its compulsory for crims to vote too

          • lljktechnogeek

Don't get me started on US law.

Seriously, don't. That's a derail that really doesn't belong on a technology blog.

        • Thomas Cai Jinzhan

that's so weird....regardless of your crimes, you are still a citizen and as a citizen, it's your constitution right (not privilege) to vote, until your citizenship is nullified. Last I check, very few crimes can take away a person's citizenship.

          • David Hart

In America you can be a Terrorist at the flip of a hat. :

    • Bobby Phoenix

Agreed. Cyanogen is so 2011. The stock ROM on my Note 3 has way more features than CM does. It's super smooth, super stable, and with Xposed you can add even more.

      • someone755

You, Sir, obviously do not understand the reason behind CM's existence. :l
I don't mean to offend you, just read a few topics and articles.
It's supposed to be AOSP, but with customization. Sure, tastes differ, but some people like a Note 3 design that runs AOSP. And with CM, they (mostly) won't even need Xposed for any tweaks they'd like.

      • gmaninvan

        Seriously? Touchwhiz is awful

    • Andrew Chandler

Same here. I put the Nexus 7 boot animation in /data/local so it persists through nightly flashing, so it makes no difference to me.

But I do applaud their more professional logo. Cid was never my favorite, for the short amount of time he was around on my devices.

  • lusky3

Don't care. But it's a clean logo. So hot.

  • jamaall

Much better then the old one. The old one would drive people away, this one is more inviting.

  • WitnessG

I like it, it looks very clean and professional.

  • sirtao

it looks too much like the OCP logo from Robocop.

    • Mark Washington

No it doesn't ! I would say more like an open source hexagon. Lol

  • Nick

At least it's not Cid anymore, Cid always looks angry for some reason. However this logo kind of reminds me of an evil corporation that develops some kind of biological weapon.

    • IT prophet

you're almost right, even though that evil corporation is developing mobile OS...

that's spying on you (it's not only CM accounts) and selling 'you' to the oligarchs that backed this company with their millions...

      • hp420

They all do and anyone who tell themselves any mobile firmware developer doesn't do it are kidding themselves. Google happens to do it a lot, but in comparison to MS and Apple's other evil ways I think we can say overall, Google is definitely the lesser of evils in the case of "the big 3"

I'd buy that for a dolllarrrrr

      • Stanley Chan

OCP logo is awesome. Always liked. Is timeless. Like cyanogen logo.

    • Android Developer

      What, like "Umbrella corporation" ?
I thought about it too, but they are not that similar.

    • Lisandro O Oocks

      Cid is awesome

    • someone755

Tbh even though I never liked Cid, I'll miss him.
CM7 had the best bootanimation ever.

  • David Margolin

    I want Cid back :(

  • Kiceg

    i like it it's sexy

  • Christian Koch

honestly, who cares about the logo, you will only see it when you start the device, so on average like once a month?!

What is way more interesting: Will CM start having their own design? I would even pay to have an Android skin that looks a bit like Windows Phone: clear simple colours, everything super smooth, no transparency or any other useless effects... (okay, my Nexus 5 is already pretty smooth and fast, but I just don't like the android style)

I moved to Paranoid Android yesterday, hope CM gets some cool stuff done to get me back.

    • https://plus.google.com/108596272537415356460/posts Jason Farrell

Once a month? CM users reboot way more often than the average Joe. I see mine almost every night(ly) for example.

    • Gabernasher

      Go buy a windows phone.

  • Stephen Vanhooser

Reminds me of Dharma(?) from Lost. It's not a traditional logo, I like the fact it's reminiscent of other sci-fi logos. I approve.

  • Vitaly Streltsov

Cyanogen is not hot anymore :( imho

  • Deeco

    How original.

  • Humberto Hernandez

    Too cold and souless

Don't know how people like it.

    • https://plus.google.com/108596272537415356460/posts Jason Farrell

When you incorporate, you sign away your soul, so it fits.

  • rich_bown

Much better than the almost universally hated cid logo

    • https://plus.google.com/108596272537415356460/posts Jason Farrell

  • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

This logo is similar to too many other logos, at least Cis was unique in a way

  • Paul Faraday

Better than an Android on a skateboard.

    • Android Developer

I actually liked the Android on the skateboard, especially with the boot animation.
Only logo of them I didn't like was of Cid.

  • https://twitter.com/kaithomasfoster Kai Foster

I don't really like it, but it's so much better than that godawful CID design.

  • Randy Strye

was never a fan of cid...

  • Brian Resnik

    Re: biohazard waste consortium look

The name of the company is "Cyanogen." I think it's pretty fitting self-referential humor :D

  • robert alexander

I think the symbolic meaning is phooey, but it's a pretty cool logo. I definitely would have done worse

  • Android Developer

When will Paranoid change their weird logo?

    • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

      What's wrong with it?

      • Android Developer

it looks like a child with... issues...

  • mrjayviper

it's a slow news day when several Android websites I frequent have a poll on CM's new logo. In saying that, I like it. much better than Cid.

  • Stanley Chan

Pretty decent logo. Would like to see in the bootscreen on new nightlies...

  • Ixil

It reminded me of Celldweller immediately.

  • Matthew Merrick

Better than sid, not better than the old logo

  • http://www.emuparadise.me/roms-isos-games.php Apple is a patent troll
  • http://twitter.com/qngml KONG!

    It's OK. I don't say it's hot or not
BTW, you shouldn't put your opinion before the poll. It's effect others 😀

  • cycojesus

  • Hugo Martins
    • HarrisMirza

I didn't know Cyanogen was into consumer hardware.

  • abobobilly

I think it looks good enough, if not hot.

  • Thomas Cai Jinzhan

Probably will not go out of place as the logo of an evil organization in the resident evil games

  • realitysconcierge

I agonized a bit over the decision, but I finally decided on 'not'. It just isn't unique and doesn't have the personality that I'm used to. Lol

  • thatjoeguy

The new logo reminds me of DHARMA corporation from Lost.

  • thatjoeguy

The new logo reminds me of DHARMA corporation from Lost.

  • gmaninvan

Reminds me a bit of the umbrella corporation lol

  • nytimes

    1000 times better..

  • tdurden64111

    That's hot.
