You can't go 5 minutes on the web today without tripping some sort of an April Fools' mine, but even armed with this knowledge, I walked right into this one.

Ringtones, notification sounds... There were no survivors. Damn you, @ciwrl!

Edit: So very sneaky.

lol, pretty funny. does it actually set that as a ringtone though?

I probably wouldn't know my phone was ringing if it was defaulted to that sound...and i might miss a call. hope its just in the preview of the ringtones and not actually set.

    pretty funny either way.

    • saf1927

It does. It scared the heck out of me when today I got a call and it played that goat sound so suddenly lol

    Inspired by Goat Simulator? :D

(or are those just sheep like the thumbnail image implies? I'm really not into animals &shit)

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Neither am I really. Added goat and sheep into tags for completeness.

  • pmbasehore

I was expecting a RickRoll. Slightly disappointing.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I would have lost my shit.

I thought the unified builds for the S4 were their April Fools joke.

  • Owen Finn

Wow. Really unprofessional to change someone's ringtone. I'll be uninstalling and avoiding from now on.

    • Orkeren1307

Someone's in a bad mood.. These are nightlies - bleeding edge code. People installing this SHOULD be ready for anything. Especially april fools pranks :D

      • Mike Reid

Yes, Except that developers, and others with a need for nightlies, often can't afford to have another phone that isn't running nightlies, and want to carry just one device while "life testing" the dev/everything phone.

        • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

          Still, I don't see a big deal.

        • turdbogls

there is no NEED to run nightlies. I really dont see the need to run nightlies. if you are an app Dev, you should be running 100% stock android either way for testing purposes.

like the other guy said, its bleeding edge....you can't expect the phone to be 100% stable. hell, the phone might never ring on a nightly release....you just never know.

        • h4rr4r

If you were a CM dev you would be in on the joke already.
There is no need for anyone else to run nightlies. Who can't afford a one gen old phone they already own? Go get a nook color, $50 on ebay.

      • Owen Finn

They just launched an exclusive with a phone manufacturer - this sort of "prank" is not very professional. I'd be hesitant to trust them with anything else, to be honest. A ringtone is a personal thing, but can be heard by anyone when it goes off. Should also point out that the ringtone is at a "default" volume - so those of us that install a quiet/unintrusive tone would be shocked/embarrassed to hear this ring out. Not a good move, and I will certainly avoid any phone/enterprise they are involved with from now on.

        • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

          Alright dude.

          • Guest

I noticed that it made the sound when they went to set the ringtone. I may be confused, but if I could hear it, so could anyone else. Anyone who used a nightly during business hours is not very bright as anything could happen. I was using a nightly one day and forgot that the camera app was still broken. I couldn't take any pictures or videos properly. Did I blame cyanogen mod? Noooooo. I'm the one that installed the nightly. Now, as a prank. that's clever. again, I'll reiterate, it would be been a 'baa-a-a-a' when you set it. No fault on anyone other than the one that installed it.

        • turdbogls

yeah...the Oppo N1 and the One+ One will not be using Nightlies.
I said it again, if you want to avoid these pranks (they happen once a year) or any other bugs, you should avoid Nightlies.

    • Simon Belmont

Heh. I'm certain it's only for one day and then your ringtone reverts to your previous selection.

It's nothing but good, clean fun, really. If it set my phone on fire, well that would be a different story (especially if it was in my pocket).

    • h4rr4r

Don't run nightlies on production devices.

      • Kenneth Spirit Wolf

I run nightlies on my S4 because that's all that's available for them. I update roughly once a week. They run extremely stable for a nightly and the only issue I noticed was the battery was running down too quickly on the build I had, so I updated last night not even thinking about April fools until my phone rang today.......you got me on that one. Well updated again a few minutes ago and everything looks normal again. I'll have to remember this when next year rolls around.

  • Simon Belmont

This changed all of my alarms that I had on my tablet to goat sounds, too. I heard it ever so faintly from across the house and wondered if it was a TV show my son was watching.

When I realized what it was, I just cracked up laughing. Hahaha.

  • Basil

Shitty joke. I was late to the office and missed couple of important calls.

    • Joseph Cascio

Lol I hope this is an April Fool's joke. Why are your running nightlies if you need stability? You do know that the alarm could not work on any given day (nightly) right?

    • Crafty

Really? I guess your ears automatically ignore the sounds of sheep?

Sorry. That was in BAAAAd taste.

    • GraveUypo

yeah that's what i was thinking. thankfully i don't even use cm on my main phone anymore.

    • h4rr4r

Why are you running nightlies on your main device?
      Don't do that.

      • psycho francis

That's not the point, is it? They released software with a pretty major "joke" onto their customers.

        • h4rr4r

          That is the point.
Nightly builds are not to be run on production devices.
Lots of software has easter eggs, this was just a nightly.

You do realize that any given nightly might have totally broken phone or sms support right? What would you have done if it was a bug instead?

    • psycho francis

Agreed. Unprofessional. I have different ringtones set that mean something to me. I spent much time I don't have trying to figure out the problem. Firable offense, really. Tighten up. I'd rather have verizon's bloatware installed than pranksters running my OS. What a joke.

      • francesco

Nightlies are aplha unstable builds for developers and testers, not for daily use.

If you install an alpha on a phone you use for work maybe you are unprofessional mate. ;)

  • http://www.emuparadise.me/roms-isos-games.php Apple is a patent troll

This is exactly why I don't use this rom and prefer something better like slim or omni.

    • h4rr4r

Because they have a sense of humor?

      • psycho francis

Because they are being run in a non-proessional manner.

        • h4rr4r

Its a nightly. They are not professional quality builds.

      • Blair Daines

My sense of humor ran out hours ago.. they have wasted hours of my time with this so not funny joke..

        • h4rr4r

          It's a nightly, don't run nightlies.

  • Izzy

    time for a new rom...

    • Blair Daines

I am not sure how to get rid of this one completely, I cannot go back to the Snapshot is will not boot now..

  • Blair Daines

I am really angry, disgusted.. I put the new nighly on and now the phone does not ring at all, I cannot anser the phone. I can make outbound, but cannot recieve anything, I am just really disgusted and have wasted several hours trying to get my phone to work.. AND I CANT GO BACK TO SNAPSHOT, IT SHUTS OFF PROGRAMS AND WILL NOT COMPLETE THE REBOOT.. JUST REALLY DISGUSTED...

    • trentag1988

go into recover and delete the cache, system and the dalvik cache. if you have CWM, go under 'mounts and storage' and select format cache system and data, then under advanced and select dalvik. then reinstall appropriate rom. then i recommend using battery calibration from marosige after a phone charge to help reset the battery. Don't know why, but it's helped my t989 last up to 2-3.5 days on a single charge with heavy to moderate use.

      • Blair Daines

Thank you for your responce, I had been doing delete cache and dalvik but not the System and Data..

Can I go back to 4.2 after having 4.4.2 on the phone if I clear everything? I hate the phone and radio in 4.4.2.. Thanks You..

        • trentag1988

You should be able to follow the same exact steps. it's what I always do! as long as you haven't gone back to a Gingerbread rom, you should be fine. always had to use Odin after going back to gingerbread just to get back into ics or jb (if that makes sense). But yeah, reiterating, always clear EVERYTHING if going to another rom version, upgrading or donwgrading.

        • trentag1988

But, just my two cents, please go to CM 10.2.0, or 10.2.1 in some cases, that's 4.3.1 (latest stable for CyanogenMod). horrible experience using any nightly, and almost all other rom devs. :) best wishes!

Veeeeeery funny.. I was at one of my clients and then i got an phonecall... "Meeeeeh! Meeeeeeh!" -.-
