Cut-Thumb

Cut the Rope isn't Angry Birds, but in term's of popularity, it's come pretty close. The original game centered around getting a piece of candy into the mouth of the most adorable green, one-eyed something we've ever seen. The core gameplay in the latest sequel is, unsurprisingly, largely the same. Players will still spend their time feeding the appropriately named Om Nom by cutting the many ropes that some unspeakably evil being (game designer) has used to keep the poor creature hungry.

Cut7 Cut8 Cut9

Like any good sequel, Cut the Rope 2 expands on the originally by adding more. There are more puzzles, more colors, more variety, and more characters. That last group forms perhaps the most substantial change to the game, as each one adds to the complexity of puzzles in various ways.

Om Nom's new friends:

  • Roto can carry Om Nom to the best candy catching locations
  • Lick can make small bridges with his tongue to help Om Nom reach his goal
  • Blue can lift Om Nom to new levels of candy hunting fun
  • Toss can throw objects, including candy
  • Boo can scare Om Nom to jump to new heights

Oh, there are also more in-app purchases. We can't forget about those.

Just think about how much real candy you could get for $49.99.

Still, kudos to ZeptoLab for putting a notice up at startup for parents warning them that if they don't want their children to spend money, they should check their device settings. That could help prevent IAP-related lawsuits.

Virtual currency aside, this is a free-to-play game. Check it out via the widget below.

I haven't found it yet, is there any way we can remove ads? I'd gladly pay for that.

    • Tester

I just use AdAway on a rooted device. Haven't seen an ad in a while.

      • spacekobra

Or I can give the devs the money they deserve.

        • rolo143

          How about no?

        • Gabernasher

They deserve to go bankrupt for how full of IAPs this game is.

        • David Hart

I'm strongly against ads, especially in apps/games.

I would much rather pay outright. I tend to forget about, and not install games that I haven't paid for.

Besides, the amount of core users who actually play this game constantly, aren't the kind of people who root every device and install an ad blocker on it. Look to Flappy Bird.

There's also nothing illegal about it at all. I'm going to continue to buy apps that let me, and block as many ads as possible. (sorry AP)

          • spacekobra

That's cool, I hate ads too. My rule of thumb is that if its not in my face then it can stay.

Either way, adaway didn't seem to block it and I'd much rather pay 99c or something to get rid of ads and energy then have an app riddled with it.

    • http://bertelking.com/ Bertel King, Jr.

I haven't come across one. If someone does, I'll gladly add it to the post.

  • Oh no, Bob

Jesus, $49.99 IAP is just horribly evil.

    • darkdude1

In b4 "my kid spent $10000 on IAP" lawsuit.

    • Spoot

Lol at the "dear parents" screenshot. They clearly KNOW that they are evil, they just don't give a crap enough.

  • Chris Sanner

I happily paid money for the first game and loved it. Then they added IAPs. then they added ads that I (a previously paying customer) had to pay to remove. then they started collecting my data. Then they started adding IAPs that were required to complete "all" part of the game. I gave up. they don't get my money or even my storage space anymore.

    • http://rayshq.com/ Ray

I don't waste my time with them either any more either. Same goes for Angry Birds and pretty much anything else Rovio related.

    • Omar Feliciano

Your answer for some IAP games, Freedom App + ROOT. ;-)

      • spacekobra

Sounds like the easiest way to get malware.

        • Omar Feliciano

I don't think so. I've been using it for a very long time not a single malware. Download from oficial site and you'll be good. But you are not force to use it anyways.

    • Robert Alex Kibler

Plus now there's the energy aspect where you have a limited number of plays.

  • https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=iWizard Bikram Agarwal

Damn... I had even forgotten that there's a CTR2. It's been that long since it was launched on iOS. I don't think ZeptoLab is a "small developer team" - the usual excuse that gets thrown around when an app takes this long for Android version. I hear there was exclusivity deal with iOS though.

Anyway, my review of this version - the levels are more difficult and complex than previous versions of the game since there are more moving pieces. Now the Om Nom moves too. On some levels, you need to use "power ups" from your inventory; but you have no idea of knowing whether those are necessary on a particular level or not. And the graphics style is a little off. It looks too much "old school cartoon"-ish.

Cut the Rope 2 is FREE on PlayStore

Cut the Rope 2 on AppStore is 0.99$

    No thanks Apple

    • armshouse

Don't know if the apple version has IAPs or not, but i would much prefer to pay a couple of quid than to get it free and loaded with crappy in app purchases

    • DrakeTungsten

      Apple: App Store
      Amazon: Appstore

  • Sorian

About time, I have been taunted by my iOS friends.

    • Karlo

      0.99$ on AppStore
      Free on PlayStore

      • Mozaik

Cough "IAP and Ads" Cough !!! , No ads on ios devices.

        • Karlo

          Who cares for Ads.
Or i just disable data and no Ads.
I bet there will be paid nonAd version of this game very soon.
Same was for AngryBirds Space and first Cut the Rope.

          • Mozaik

But Still ads makes me to give up on a games .

          • Karlo

            I dont care

          • Mozaik

            Ok , I just stated fact .

          • David Hart

            ...

        • Sorian

Don't need to pay IAP to play the game, it may take longer, but I don't care. And as far as ads, you see them in tv shows and radio broadcasts.

  • Sorian

"the most adorable green, one-eyed something we've ever seen." He has always have 2 eyes.

    • http://bertelking.com/ Bertel King, Jr.

Om Nom has two eyes the same way Sonic the Hedgehog has two eyes - by overlooking how freakishly connected their eyes are.

      • BKPhil

Two pupils, one eye. A mutant cyclops, if you will.

        • Randy Strye

          polycoria

          • BKPhil

            Thanks for sharing.

I might be able to sleep again one of these days. If I take a lot of sedatives.

          • Stan

Lol, same here. It's scary as hell.

  • Owen Finn

    This game is not good.

  • Dakota

I guess the other versions of the game which were released weren't sequels?

  • Zyre

I would love if they made a movie about this in the same style, or some short on YouTube. Just love how it looks especially the music.

  • CERN

I think all apps should be built the way badland is! And urge AP to showcase apps which use the free-demo/pay-fer-everything kind of setup. Let's start a Civil Disobedience movement against IAPs!!

    • primalxconvoy

I agree. If you could just tell Ouya that, too, that would be grand.

  • tekfr33kn

Came up as incompatible with my N5 & N7(2013). What's up wit dat?

  • Randa Hafza

about f***king time ! 1 star for taking forever to release it

  • http://nrajesh.com Rajesh

While nothing much at fundamental level has changed, you can expect a lot of encouragement to make in-app purchases. I see the reason why they went underground for a while!

I remember the backlash they received earlier for suddenly introducing in-app content. This time they've done their homework better. You are warned about these purchases up front.

Not much originality - the spiders in the intro video seem to be similar to another game; the bottom left menu reminds of another famous angry game :)

  • Anon McAnon

It's a shame you neglected to talk about the energy.
It's not even fun to play because I lose a life whenever I restart a level, and it makes me angry because I just want to play the game...

  • lolosoyeah

the game sucks . iap kill the game

  • TouchMyBox

Avoid this one like the plague.

It's like seeing the girl next door you had a crush on when you were kids giving a john a bj in a dark alleyway in exchange for crack.

  • Henrique Persechini

Legend says there is a game somewhere under all the ads and iap-palooza

  • Henrique Persechini

I got to read a lot of reviews for the game on the play store trying to see why so many people 5-star the game, and found a lot of brazilian names with nonsense reviews that only make sense when translated word for word to english, indicating some sort of review farm auto-translated from english to the language of the "reviewer"
