The Aviate launcher has been in alpha/beta for so long, it feels like a Google project. After all, the software runs solidly and has garnered millions of installs. Yet as an app in active development, the new features continue to roll in. Today's update adds badge counts for a handful of apps, including missed phone calls, text messages, Gmail messages, and apps that support notification badges in TouchWiz.

There's one drawback through - Google Hangouts is not yet supported. Still, if you want in on this action, Aviate is willing to welcome in any users who enter the code HONEYBADGER when first launching the app. You can get it for free below.

Born and raised in the rural South, Bertel knows what it's like to live without 4G LTE - or 3G, for that matter. The only things he likes sweeter than his tea are his gadgets, and while few objects burn more than a metal phone on a summer day, he prefers them that way anyway.

There's no API for Google Hangouts. That's why. (I know there is a dashclock extension; it's root only)

No, it's not, they just ask for notification reading access.

      • Kyle Riedemann

Was about to point that out, worth noting that it's only supported in API level 18 and above I believe (4.3)

This launcher is actually getting useful ....

Aviate is on the right track...definitely positioning themselves to be a launcher top contender.

Does anyone have an invite they could send me? I waited in line 6 months ago or so, but when I got a new phone it asked for a new invite code. I put in a new reservation and even contacted them by email but no luck yet. I really miss it, especially when reading about all of their updates.

Use the code HONEYBADGER to get in.

Can't figure out how to shut off the badges. I prefer not to have them. Am I missing something simple?

Hey, you can already do that. Just tap and hold on the Temperature card and you'll get the option to change °F to °C.
