Facebook pushed an update to its Android app today that brings a handful of useful photo features, like the ability to post an image as a comment – something that's been available on the web for quite a while. Otherwise, you can now also delete and/or edit photo albums, untag yourself in photos, and upload multiple images at the same time. Group admins can now easier pin and unpin posts, as well.

It seems like Facebook is also edging closer to a full rollout of the new flat UI – more and more users are reporting that it's available for them, though it's still not yet available for everyone. Good things come to those who wait, I suppose. Unless you're waiting for Facebook to remove the Gingerbread-style menu from devices with physical keys – that still hasn't happened.

Isn't this only in the beta app?

Also, the new UI sucks... a lot! A key feature, which is having the ability to sort your news feed posts, has been removed. Unless I'm not looking hard enough.

I just got the update yesterday. But I have auto turned off so I don't know when it was available. I found it ONCE it's gone now. It was the people button on the top right of the feeds tab. It was a "square" for relevant and a clock for recent. If you switched tabs it would go back to the people button. Yet, on the feeds tab it was the clock. I was like hell yeah they put sort back in. I even posted about it I was so stoked. But it is gone today. That proves to me they are hiding it on purpose. They want people to pay to be at the top and they can't do that if we can sort by time.

  • yahyoh

And yet i still have the old UI ( while all IOS users enjoying the new UI since IOS 7 FU** u facebook )

    Im beta user BTW

    • MiMo1986s

sorry all IOS users enjoying the new paper app from facebook forget about the new UI that we didn't touch it yet that's why i don't like facebook anymore soo random .

  • http://kennydude.me/ Joe Simpson

O____o They are still using that style of menu? They do realize it's 2014 right?

    • Daniel Smith

Facebook Android developers must still be using Android 2.2

    • remister

They are developing off of HTC First, the Facebook phone which is still on 2.2

        It's on Jelly Bean...

  • Bojan Tomic

I've been in beta since forever and in alpha since 3 months ago and still no now UI... Server rollout sucks. lol

    • naturalblue

same here. also auto playback on the videos don't work for me.

        consider that a good thing.

      • whispy_snippet

When that feature finally rolls out it will be the day I stop using Facebook for good. Worst idea ever.

    • Thomas Cai Jinzhan

i've been on alpha and i got this new UI yesterday...though i have some problem using check in....it keep crashing the app so it's really alpha....LOL

  • BoB1673

still looking for the flat ui look my self

  • Alex Coldstone Simon

i just got the new UI this morning, been beta user for a while and i think alpha for a little bit too. i really like the look of it. i wish the changelog wasn't just "-bug fixes" though....

    • BoB1673

im a beta tester nd was a alpha tester too still never got it

  • christopher3712

I'm on the alpha and have had a lot of these abilities. However, as of the an update yesterday, I can't. I guess all those changes are server side? An old TB restore didn't grant that ability again.

  • Daniel Traynor

I have been a Beta tester since day 1 and have always been last to get features and haven't got the new UI yet.

  • Daniel Smith

The Facebook Android app is a mess.

    • Fresh2infinity

I dk about you, but I get a facebook update almost every 2 hours on my phone! and the changelog? bug fixes....shit's annoying man

      • Daniel Smith

        Leave the Beta/Alpha group.

        • Fresh2infinity

Doing just that on another tab mow, as I have not noticed any benefit or feature that stands out...looks the same to me as it did 3 years ago!

    • yahyoh

Because Apple really care how the apps look and work , while Google let the devs do whatever they want ( some devs even still using android 2.2 guidelines)
IMO Google should really ban any app that don't use the latest design guidelines

  • NATHY

    APK?

  • ArrTooDeeToo

Still no tablet UI. What the crap?

Odd. I just updated and still no ability to post photos in comments.

    • dcdttu

AMEN. I've got many friends in an Android Facebook group, many with the same phone as me (Nexus 5). Some have been able to photo-post for quite some time, others can't. There's no rhyme or reason to it either. It's not based on hardware or OS version that I can tell.

  • Danny Holyoake

They still haven't fixed the bug that you can't share images from the G+ Photos app. Considering Google is replacing Gallery with it, it's pretty severe that Facebook hasn't fixed it.

  • Nick

Beta tester since Day 1 and Alpha tester since Day 1 as well, but still no new UI.

  • Leonardo Baez

    finally... it was about time

  • http://404err0r.com/ Henry Park

beta users lost the ability to photo comment we had this sometime ago but they got rid of it for us to "test other features"

  • Unknown182

How about a translate button and threaded comments like on the desktop? Come on!

  • Dario · 753 a.C. .

this app really slows down my phone. google said kitkat is optimized for 512MB RAM device, unfortunately apps like that are not!
facebook uses 80MB ram on my phone and FB messenger 40MB.
so i've 120MB wasted only from facebook.

why does this app has to stay h24 in background although i don't open it and although i unchecked notification box?

    can't they use gcm?
can't the look at twitter or telegram or instagram, apps not going all the time in RAM

    • andy_o

They do use GCM. If you're rooted use Greenify. I recommend the donate version which can wake up apps with GCM.

BTW, Android will kill them itself if it needs RAM.

  • http://www.LOVEanon.org/ Michael Oghia (Ogie)

I hope they fixed a bug that occurs when you try to edit a comment, it doesn't edit.

  • KlausWillSeeYouNow

Does anyone else's Facebook app look like this? All of my friends have the traditional UI. Am I in beta? I haven't seen this anywhere else. Can someone tell me what's going on?!

    I'm so confused...

    • Lalit Mali

It's the new UI and it's slowly rolling to everyone.
I know more people who use the stable app(no alpha/beta) and still have the new UI. Lucky you.

      • KlausWillSeeYouNow

Thanks! I uninstalled and reinstalled and it made absolutely no difference. Hmmm. Not enrolled in the beta, either.

    • justanocduserforupdates

I haven't seen a single soul post that they have the update or mirror this anywhere, mind mirroring? Thanks.

  • wilflare

I've been in the beta for ages... and well still no new UI.
and how I hope they release a Dark Theme or Black Theme already :/

  • Thomas Cai Jinzhan

the UI refresh is a nice change but facebook really need to up-res their app icon..

  • Catalin Dragutu

I uninstalled Facebook after the "read sms" permission was added. It already had too many permissions anyway (contacts, calendar, battery stats, call logs), etc. Their page about it ( https://www.facebook.com/help/210676372433246 ) isn't reassuring either, since they say "keep in mind that this list doesn’t include all of the Android permissions we request or all of our uses of those permissions. ", which basically just says "we can do what we want". I won't be installing it until they remove these broad permissions, no matter how good the app will be or how many awesome features it gets.

  • Gregor Smith

I have the updated website layout, I had all these features (except IU) on the beta until yesterday. Facebook makes no sense at all...

    What';s new

I've even got one friend with a Nexus 5 that has had that new flat interface for over a month, and he's not beta or alpha. Just regular.

  • Stone Cold

I dumped the app. With all the permissions it started asking for turned me off completely.

  • Anthony Johnson

    I like the update
as there is no need to login to the system to do a photo based comment. I just
login through my Nexus 5 and un- tag myself from un-logical photos easily
through my Smartphone. But still I think they should also do more work on the app
as this is one of the apps which are responsible for draining out the battery
soon as I have to keep my phone on wireless charging pad twice daily due to
continuous running of this app in the background. Hope they will rectify this issue soon.

  • aouniat

Yet I can't share a link or a public post in a private message ! I can on my iPad !

  • Arthur Jolivet

I haven't the new fonctionnality (ui and albums) both in the public version 7.0 and the ALPHA version 8.0. What are you doing Facebook ? Why I haven't the new UI and why I have the same fonctionnalities in public and Alpha versions ?

Still not updating the Facebook app after it requires access to read my SMS messages. There's no reason Facebook should need (or require) access to see whom I'm communicating with and the content of my messages. Probably uninstalling app entirely now that I'm getting warnings that my version is out-of-date and will not be usable much longer. Bad move, Facebook. We have the NSA for snooping..

  • joel

Does anyone know why there is issues viewing photos from the app? I have a photography pagr and for the past week a lot of people have been saying the cant see my photos. It just shows a grey block with a refresh button. Refreshing does nothing. Any suggestions?

  • Konstigt2

If I understand the comment correctly, I just wait to get the update? Because I still cannot post comments with images. App is latest version installable on the Play Store.

How do you sort newsfeed with the latest version?

Facebook has given so many features for branding and marketing purposes. A person can also use Facebook aps for automatically updates their status with the help of these aps. I have linked my business page https://www.facebook.com/designhilldh with Aps and automatically updated all posts on my business page.
