yatse

If Yatse is your go-to XBMC remote on Android, this weekend's update should be a nice surprise. If you're still looking for a good remote solution, now may be the time to check this one out.

In short, Yatse got bumped to version 4.0, which brings a handful of new features to the already-powerful application, like Chromecast support, Muzei integration, a newly designed interface, improved speed and stability, an internal audio player, and offline media support.

Yatse is free to try, but the full version will set you back $4.49. Hit the widget to give it a shot.

Wow. I installed the official XBMC remote a few months ago but it's garbage. I didn't even know there were alternatives. I'll certainly check it!

Yatse it the best XBMC app.

  • XellossMetallium

Great app! Should be just a remote but actually it is a good substitute for xbmc itself (android version), when there is a server.

Yatse is a brilliant app. It just works, and gives you full control of your XBMC installation, i love it.

Sadly, XBMC cannot transcode. So there are files that won't play properly (no audio). Plex is better in that regard and is able to cast channels as well (icefilms for example). However, Plex requires the PlexPass subscription for Chromecast support.

      • Gabriel Hellsing

It transcodes just fine for me. o.o

        • Manuel Mas

I tested some MKVs and there was no sound. I think the dev himself stated there was no transcoding involved.

          • Gabriel Hellsing

Odd. I wonder if Yatse has the ability to hook into MX Player and it's codecs...

+1 for Plex>XBMC. I know XBMC is popular and it does a lot of things really well, but for me, streaming movies from a PC server to an Android mini plugged into the TV, Plex is exactly what I want. The layout, the UI mechanics, the flexibility and the ability to play everything makes it perfect for me. Nice to have the choice though, and as I said, XBMC is a lot of people's perfect choice.

XMBC can stream icefilms, project free TV and tons of other services. Check out XMBC Hub Wizard. It will add all the repos to do so.

        • Manuel Mas

Yes, I have those. Yet, casting them through Yatse is a difficult task. Again, Plex is easier. But if you get it working easily, let me know. Would love to stop paying for the PlexPass (Im paying monthly until they release Chromecast support for free).

I paid for one month. I don't think they are going to set that as a free feature until people stop paying for it. I bought Avia and use that with the Plex server and it runs perfectly, plus it's a one time fee and no monthly subscription garbage. Plex really pissed me off with that move after I bought their app I have to pay a monthly subscription to use it? No thanks.

            Chromecast support is now free

I quit using Plex as it never could scrape my media proper. I just use XBMC with file directory. Has Plex allowed this yet or better yet allowed to read custom nfo files?

Are you sure? I have transcoding options on RaspBMC, though I never use it. UPnP works well enough.

    • C64

i use Show box (moviebox ios) for streaming movies and series.

    • Zimmerman

I agree. I use it daily. Best remote ever.

  • moe

Wow, does that imply that xbmc is also able to transcode media files for chromecast compatibility just like Plex does? Please forgive my ignorance but i never really used xbmc.

    • Zimmerman

      Yes that what it implies

Love Yatse - just wish it would update its libraries a bit more quickly.
