Has it really been two years already? You're getting to be such a grown up app marketplace, Google Play. Google is offering some modest sales to celebrate two years of Google Play (also two years since the Android Market was smothered in its sleep). You'll find an assortment of apps, music, books, and movies, but don't expect amazing deals.

2014-03-06 12_08_45-Happy Birthday - Android Apps on Google Play

Most of the apps are offering discounts on in-app purchases. Although, you can play as a bugdroid in Badlands now, which it worthy of celebration all by itself. Google is also knocking a few bucks off some movies, albums, and books.

You can hit the link below to peruse the sales. There's probably something of interest, even if it's not as impressive as past sales.

  • Danny Holyoake

Hmm, did I miss the UK sale?

  • Dee Norbert

    Some printscreen of the offers?

  • Blane Stroud

I realize you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but this "sale" seriously blows.

    • Mike Harris

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I guess I should have read the article - especially the line "but don't expect amazing deals" - before I checked it out.

      • merman1983

I know, but WOW what a horrible lineup of half-arsed "sales". Besides Let's Go Crazy by Prince I'm not sure why anyone would care (because that song is awesome).

Also - so offering free in-app gold or credits or whosits IS NOT A SALE or "free" game. It's just less freemium and no less horrid.

        • bearballz

Wow talk about scraping the bottom of the bargain bin. Thanks but no thanks Google.

        • Mike Harris

Absolutely. I also grabbed that Prince song for the hell of it, but it is a very crappy sale.

I agree 100% about the in-app BS. I don't think I'd go for one even if the IAPs were completely free. IAPs are not a busy model I want anything to do with.

    • http://jsudoku-game.blogspot.it/ Salvatore Manfredi

I didn't know that the "horse thing" was used outside Italy. :D

  • downlinx

haha, nothing in this sale worth picking up, hey we are having a sale, lets throw free apps into the sale and call it a sale

  • RockAndRock

    Available in France too

    • iDarKz

      Not for me... Weird

      • RockAndRock
        • iDarKz

Merci, le lien fonctionne mais impossible d'y accéder en cherchant sur le Play Store.
The link is working in France but it's the only way (for me) to get access to the sale.

          • RockAndRock

For the mobile or WEB version ?

          • iDarKz

Web version, haven't tried the mobile one.

          • RockAndRock

            Just under the recommendations

          • iDarKz

Well, I just had to scroll more xD

  • nagi

Adventure Time Season 1 Episode 1 for free! (HD version)

  • Gaurav Arora

Live in India as well! Square Enix needs an accountant, someone has been messing their decimal points on prices (no one is this country is going to pay $7.49 for FFV)

  • deltatux

and it's only available in US only again

    • Gabernasher

Clearly it's available in a lot more than just the US based on the comments with people linking all these other countries it's available in.

    • EnRouge

Oddly enough its been live in the UK since Monday, but apparently everyone forgot to give a damn.

We've already went through four 99p albums/24hr sales; Avicii, Katy Perry, Miley, Imagine Dragons... nothing worth buying really. Books (£2), Magazines (£2), Movies and TV(HD £3.49-8.49). Today we got in-app purchases.

  • Keith Geissler

Bring back the 10 cent and 25 cent app deals... Those were the best.

    • Sir_Brizz

Even a 99c sale would be more interesting than this crap.

    • https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=iWizard Bikram Agarwal

I don't think those are ever coming back. Google had run those during the toddler days of Android Market; for two reasons. 1) To get people interested in Android apps. Without making the apps free, this was the only way to draw people in. 2) Make them register their credit cards; to buy the apps. Now that both of these are achieved, Google doesn't have a reason to run such promotions again.

      • Roh_Mish

I still don't have my card registered.

  • Giorgos Angelos McKriss

    This just made me sad.

  • Sir_Brizz

Honestly, if this is the future of sales on the Play Store, just give up now. I was hopeful that Google would do a good job of being the "Steam of Mobile" but ever since the last 25c sale they have completely and utterly failed at it.

  • Abraham

They are not worth even looking at really.

You are not missing out on anything. There are absolutely no apps on sale. They are all FREE apps, that are offering discounts on their in app purchases.

There are also some books and rentals, but that is about it.

    Very lame sale.

Here are the screenshots of the sale for those who cant access it. Sorry if the font is relatively small, I had to zoom my browser out so it would not need too many SS's.

    • xnadax

      Thank you!

    • Gabernasher

There's 5 Dr Seuss apps for 99c each.

      OK, but what about us?

  • squiddy20

I can't speak for the other stuff, but I'm pretty sure the music in this "sale" has been free/discounted for the past several days, if not weeks.

  • http://www.google.com/+StefanoCirimele Stefano Cirimele “Teto Stormy”
    • Lorenzo Faccini

      No deals :(

  • http://friskychatter.com/ _jsw_

The movies aren't bad deals - if you wanted to buy the movies. Otherwise, I don't see anything here. The free songs were free yesterday (and earlier). I guess the few free episodes of shows might be nice for those who would watch them. Still... this is one of those sales where I could have found out about it too late and still not cared.

  • Andrew Kachaniwsky
  • Donnie_Eldridge

For apps there isn't a whole lot there, but for tv there is quite a bit of free stuff.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joeyklatzko Joseph Klatzko

I still accidentally call it the Market from time to time

    • Squiddles

I think it's okay to refer to it as market, just not Market.

  • Chris

"also two years since the Android Market was smothered in its sleep"

    lmfao too true...Never forget!

I'll just leave this factoid here: McDonalds was founded in the US in 1940. The first one in Canada? 1967. Similarly, the first Tim Horton's opened in Hamilton, Ontario (a hop, skip, and a jump away from US borders) in 1964. The first one in the US? 1984.

      • sa

Great example, because opening a physical store and running a website are exactly the same.

        • squiddy20

They might not be *exactly* the same, but you're still selling stuff, you're still having to deal with local laws/regulations, and you're still (somewhat) having to tailor your marketing to the local area. For instance, a Japanese anime app wouldn't sell as well in Germany as it would in Japan. Similarly the Big Mac wouldn't sell as well in India as it does here in the US.

  • Gonçalo Silva

    In Portugal is available too!

  • kekkojoker90

Wait, here in italy i had only one song... google seriously?

  • Kevin Gallagher

    Worst. Sale. Ever.

  • Crispin Swickard

Not all the sale items are on that page. Final Fantasy 5 for instance is 50% right now. $8 off is a decent deal I should think.

  • Badouken

I appreciate Google giving us anything at all because they don't owe us anything.... But come on.....IAP's have ruined app sales... They will never give us another quarter sale again because they could easily just give us sales on stupid coins or currencies for free to play games instead...

  • kabloink

    Oh boy, Cupcake Wars!

  • br_hermon

    Well... that was a disappointment.

  • Jalok Xlem

Those deals are lame! I'm the type of consumer that avoids in-app purchases. Plus, the books and movies they were offering is to mainstream for me. Why not just do a 25% discount on all books and movies in general?
Yes google, I'm a spoiled brat ever since you had that 25¢ deal a few years ago.

  • Forget_you

who remembers the .25 cent deals they used to have like once a year? those were awesome. This is crap lol :-p

  • Arthur Dent

    Wow, that is just terrible.

  • faceless128

you know a sale is bad when they don't even list the deals in the article.

  • Martin P.

Deals available in Hong Kong too, with the Amazing Spiderman for 1HKD and Final Fantasy V half price. Not too bad!

  • Badouken

Just found out that Deus Ex: The Fall is a $1!!! Totally gonna snag that! Deal is till Monday!

  • JD

    Also available in Spain

  • Funem

A reduction in IAP's seems to be the new norm for sales and it seriously sucks. The two 99p albums were a good deal in the music section, if you liked that kind of music. Big disappointment for the apps though.

  • mirekk

In Poland Play Store (and Google Now, and other Google services) is still in its toddler's years - no Music, no Movies/TV, no Magazines, no Devices... Google Now is barely useful. Still a loooong way to maturity :P

  • Yoofaloof

Awful. Where are all the 10p apps and 99p magazines we've had in the past? Suffice it to say I shan't be purchasing anything this time around.

  • Kostas

    Lamest anniversary deal, EVER!

  • Matthew Fry

The movie, 'Big' is free. That's something...
