The Motorola RAZR i launched in late 2012 with the original version of Jelly Bean installed Ice Cream Sandwich, so it should come as no surprise that owners have been nervously waiting to see if they would get an update to Android 4.4. While the answer has been up in the air until now, Motorola's now saying that the device will eventually get bumped up to KitKat.

Previously the page read: "This device is currently running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) Future plan coming soon."

That's all we have for now. There's no word yet on when the update will arrive, but eventually is certainly better than never.

It did come out with ICS, and then an half assed update to jb happened around this time last year, and I say half assed because it still used old libs from ics making it harder till now to have a proper cm rom for it.

Why do both of you assume I meant it had anything to do with what country? It's an old device, get over yourselves..

      • YaPeL

no one cares for old devices, thats what you said? no wonder companies can get away with no update policiy with that line of thought my americlap friend.

The RAZR i was announced in September 2012. It is about 17 months old.

The fact it's getting 4.4 is pretty significant, considering very few OEMs update 17 month old devices.

        • Simon Belmont

Agreed. That's what I was thinking, too.

If it started on ICS and ended on KitKat, that's really quite good. Even the Galaxy Nexus didn't get to end on KitKat officially (thanks to a lack of driver support supposedly), even though, unofficially, it runs great on it.

          • Ahiram Tavarez

the sony ericsson xperia pro started on gingerbread and ended on ICS. THAT is amazing!!

  • Régis Knechtel

Well, good sign for who are afraid that Motorola would change it's update politics. At least for now.

    Dam moto sucks rotten eggs

    • Simon Belmont

Damn. Most of your comments suck rotten eggs.

What? No mention of Samsung and how great it is this time around?

    • squiddy20

Oh? Do tell as to why you think so, instead of just making a blank statement.
Also, Motorola seems to be doing better with updates than Samsung, since they're updating a device from 2012, while Samsung has left theirs in the dust.

About time to now just wait another 4-6 months for it to be rolled out as a ota. But at least its good news. :)

  • RadarJammer

    • RadarJammer

grrr.... again ... I will use the RAZR i (alongside other Androids) as long as the battery works.

  • Sam

I think I may be in the minority here but this is great news, it better come soon as I can't upgrade till November. 2 year contracts suck!

    • Mateusz Mirczewski

  • Fahad Sheikh

    Hey Bertel and the guys,
Is there any new update on when KitKat is arriving on this device?
Its getting closer to the 2year window that Motorola has on software updates and the phone is very sluggish with new apps. It also crashes while running a number of apps too.
