US Cellular customers with Samsung flagship phones, you can finally play with the latest and greatest in Android software. The carrier is sending out the KitKat 4.4.2 update for both the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 today, following the carrier's Moto X update by just over a week. Not bad, considering that larger carriers aren't very far ahead.

You know the drill: check your Settings menu for a manual update if you haven't seen it already. US Cellular is also encouraging customers to download and apply the updates with their PCs via Samsung's Kies program. As always, those who choose to use the over-the-air method should be aware of a large download size (US Cellular requires a WiFi download) and the possibility of a staggered rollout, so the update may not appear on your phone for several days.

US Cellular's promotional sheet says that the 4.4.2 update includes a modified user interface, Google Hangouts built-in, and wireless printing, on top of all the standard goodies in 4.4.2 itself. Rooted users will probably lose their root privileges (assuming the update will go through at all). Enjoy your shiny new software, S4 and Note 3 users.

Do people still use US cellular? I haven't heard anything from them in years.

    • B_Papa_Pump

Yes (midwest here). Their 4G is fast and their prices are great. Customer service is top notch. The best carrier that I have ever had.

Yay! Now to get the update and get some root action again...love my USCC! Getting out the updates before bigger carriers and getting devices just as fast as them now...so glad I've stuck with them.

As long as KitKat cripples the sd card on my Note 3, I am not going to do it.

The kitkat for GS4 has been withdrawn? I think they may be fixing a WiFi bug.

Today is Weds, March 5. Anyone been able to download it since a week ago?

      • John Jb Bruce

I haven't been able to since I received the OTA download that I turned down since I wasn't near a Wifi Hotspot. Might try through cpu.
