TimePIN - No Root Needed

Android Police coverage: [New App + Giveaway] TimePIN Secures Your Phone With A Code Updated Every Minute, Easily Fools Thieves And Pranksters, Win One Of Ten Pro Licenses

Here's an ingenious little app that changes the security PIN to the exact system time on your phone and refreshes every minute. That way you'll have an ever-changing security key that can't be spotted with an over-the-shoulder glance or guessed based on a date. Obviously the jig is up if someone figures out the pattern, but the app developer thought of that, allowing for various modifiers to the PIN like reverses and mirrors.

Find an unknown bug? Email me for a reward and a fix: jcase@cunninglogic.com TimePIN is a security and ease of use enhancing application. TimePIN sets your lockscreen PIN code to the current time resulting in an ever changing PIN that can not be shoulder surfed or repeated due to fingerprints on the screen. Modifiers allow you to morph the PIN, to further enhance security.

Pry-Fi

Android Police coverage: [New App] Chainfire Releases Pry-Fi Proof Of Concept Allowing Users To Avoid Potentially Shady Wi-Fi Tracking (Root Only)

Most people don't know that even an Android phone with WiFi turned off might be broadcasting at least some personally identifiable information. Well-known developer Chainfire has released an app that will lock down this information without actually turning off the WiFi radio. The good news: it makes being security-conscious with your data a lot easier, even after you do connect to a new network. The bad news: it's only for root users.

Pry-Fi will prevent your device from announcing all the networks it knows to the outside world, but it will still allow background scanning and automatically connecting to Wi-Fi networks. While you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network, the MAC address will constantly be pseudo-randomized, following a pattern that still makes the trackers think you are a real person, but they will not encounter your MAC address again. This will slowly poison their tracking database with useless information.

Foodler

Android Police coverage: [New App] Foodler Online Delivery Service Comes To Android, But Depending On Where You Live, There Isn't Much To Eat

You want more deliveries? Ask and you shall receive. Foodler is the same basic idea, but it's both more open and more limited. Foodler works in more cities, but it needs supported restaurants to join in the program, so depending on your location you might not be able to get your favorite food delivered to your doorstep. On the plus side, there are at least some restaurants in Foodler's database that don't normally offer delivery or takeout. A basic rewards system is included.

Foodler's free service has made ordering food online fun, easy, and rewarding since 2004. Now Foodler brings your Best Bets for local food delivery to Android. We've got all your favorite delivery foods – plus top-rated restaurants that normally don’t deliver. Explore and experience local favorites rated by Foodler users like you. So whether you're looking for pizza, wings, comfort food, a breakfast wake-up call, vegetarian delights, or face-melting Szechuan – we've got you covered.

MIXTRAX App

Android Police coverage: [New App] Pioneer's MIXTRAX Puts A Robot DJ In Your Phone, Automatically Mixes Your Local Music Library

If you're like me, you've got thousands of MP3 files hanging around from your (ahem) somewhat liberal attitude towards copyright infringement in college, and they're pretty poorly organized. Just like the desktop application of the same name, Pioneer's MIXTRAX will organize all of it and then create automatic playlists based on beat and music style. Even better, the app lets you vote up or down Pandora-style or create new playlists from the active song.

Derived from Pioneer’s experience in developing world-renown professional DJ products, the MIXTRAX App analyzes the music library on your Android and effortlessly categorizes your music into unique non-stop mixes. Each mix features virtual DJ effects that blend and transition one song to the next while maintaining the overall tempo and mood of the mix. You can now get into the mix without worrying about cueing up songs, beat matching, or adding effects, as the MIXTRAX App does it all for you.

Connect your credit cards and bank account, set all your bills, and you can pay them all within the app. The scheduling aspect is what's really attractive, especially for those of us who abhor the idea of an automatically recurring payment. PolyFauna

Android Police coverage: [New App] Radiohead's First Android Foray Will Take You On A Visual Musical Journey You Probably Won't Make Sense Of

What the Hell is this? Is it a game? A music video? A "visual album?" Oh, it's Radiohead - that should be about all the explanation that you need.

PolyFauna is an experimental collaboration between us (Radiohead) & Universal Everything, born out of The King of Limbs sessions and using the imagery and the sounds from the song Bloom. It comes from an interest in early computer life-experiments and the imagined creatures of our subconscious.

Your screen is the window into an evolving world.

You can follow the red dot.

You can wear headphones.

You can get some pretty strange looks on the train.

Android Police coverage: [New App] Intuit TaxLink Makes Communication And Document Transfer With Your Accountant A Snap

Tax season is upon us, which means real headaches for anyone with multiple 1099s and whatnot. Intuit is trying to make it a little less stressful with TaxLink, a simple app that lets you take photos of your tax documents and automatically gathers the relevant data for TurboTax. Just specify the form, take a photo, and you're ready to go. Naturally you can access the info and the photos at any time... which might not be the best thing. Make your passwords strong, people.

Intuit TaxLink saves you time when providing all your tax documents to your accountant. It also allows you to send and receive secure messages back and forth. Your accountant can also share a PDF of your return for review within the TaxLink app. Upload tax documents in a snap - it’s as easy as snapping a picture on your phone to send documents like W-2’s and 1099s to your accountant. In minutes, you can take the photos, upload them directly to TaxLink, and then get on with your busy day.

FlickKey® Keyboard

Android Police coverage: [New App] FlickKey Keyboard Combines Poking With Swiping To Reduce How Often You Need To Do Either

At the moment there are two favorite ways to type on Android: the standard hunt-and peck method and the swipe method introduced with SwiftKey. FlickKey combines both of them, splitting the keyboard up into touch zones that allow for more targeted text entry. It's a little odd, to be perfectly honest, but I'm sure someone will get some use out of it (especially if that someone is intent on trying to type on a smartwatch). The free trial is good for a generous 60 days.

Want to truly touch-type on your phone or tablet, and keep your eyes on your text? Would you like to type with any number of thumbs or fingers - any way you like? If so, try FlickKey® Keyboard. FlickKey is a new and superior keyboard concept. FlickKey is extremely fast, efficient, and accurate on all your touch screen Android devices - even smartwatches. FlickKey is a full step into the future of typing. (Note: First version is English only.)

My Paid Apps

Android Police coverage: [New App] My Paid Apps Lives Up To Its Name, Adds What The Play Store Is Missing

Why, oh why, did the Play Store ever get rid of the paid apps list (instead replacing it with a more generic list of every app you've ever downloaded)? Here's a simple way to get that paid list back, complete with a few categories and simple sorting tools.

See a simple list of all the apps you've purchased in the Play Store.

Features:

- Supports multiple accounts

- Oauth login (no more entering passwords into a webview)

- Lists apps, books, devices, anything you've bought

- Sorts items into categories

- Order by name or date bought

- Installed apps are marked with green

- See app name, icon, buy date, and price for each item

CloudMagic - Free Email App

CloudMagic is yet another alternative email app, compatible with all the standard services including Gmail. The focus is on quick and effective search, which is important when you've got an inbox stuffed with tens of thousands of messages. Reminders and notifications will help you keep on top of your itinerary, and the interesting interface should hit the spot for some jaded by Gmail and standard Exchange clients.

The email app with fast magical search for your phone and tablet. Works with Gmail, Exchange, Yahoo, Outlook, iCloud, Google Apps, Office 365 and any IMAP account. CloudMagic is FREE. Supports up to 5 email accounts. Search within and create emails from ALL of your email accounts. Quickly find anything in one continuous, searchable Inbox. Save time by not organizing emails and trying to reach Inbox Zero.

School Boss Free

This app is like the official school organizer app - without the official part. Put in your classes, grades, and schedule, and it will keep track of just about everything, including your GPA and history. A wide array of features (including just about every grading scale you can think of) help overcome a somewhat cluttered interface. The upgrade will let you enter unlimited semesters and ignore the advertising.

"School Boss" is a free stylish app for students to track their school grades, marks, assessment tasks and exams. You can sync task deadlines with Google Calendar. It has the most featured GPA calculator. A range of charts to visually see how you are progressing. Stylish and useful main screens with swipe navigation allow you to see which assessment tasks are coming up. It supports a variety of grading systems from around the world.

groopic

Everyone has been there: you gather your group or family for a group photo, but someone has to take the photo. If you don't have a handy tripod/timer combo or a kind stranger to rely on, Groopic will automatically combine two photos to add in the person who took the original shot. Some basic and ingenious guides help get the alignment perfect. It's really a surprisingly good implementation, and the $1 in-app purchase to save photos and share them is well worth it.

Ever noticed your group photos are always missing the photographer? Groopic solves this age-old problem by seamlessly including your photographer friend in every group photo. No more asking for help from a stranger or setting up a tripod. With Groopic, your pictures have every friend, every time. The usage is real simple: Take two pictures, mark the photographers and groopic does the magic.

SlideLock

If you've got the regular Android lock screen implemented, you can pull down the notification bar immediately after turning on your phone. If you want some more options, this custom lock screen completely replaces the stock version and embeds all your active notifications right on the screen. It includes gestures, Pebble support, and a good bit of customization. Unfortunately, it looks like there's no way to add a PIN or pattern lock.

Receive all your notifications directly on your lockscreen.

Features :

- Clean lockscreen replacement

- Swipe the screen to the right to unlock, swipe it to the left to access camera

- Actionable detailed notifications, swipe to the right to open, swipe to the left to dismiss

- Custom status bar

- Screen wakes up for a short time when receiving a notification, allowing you to perform a quick check without having to touch the device

- Custom settings for each app (sound, vibration, ...)

- Pebble Watch support

Snapdragon™ Glance (Beta)

Android Police coverage: [New App] Qualcomm Releases Glance Beta, An Intelligent Lock Screen Replacement That Plugs Into Battery Guru

Want another replacement lock screen? This one's from the people that probably made the processor in your smartphone, Qualcomm. Glance offers some surprisingly interesting features, including live alerts, notifications, and a hook into the Snapdragon BatteryGuru app. You can use it on top of a standard lockscreen or all by itself. At the moment Glance is in beta, and requires Jelly Bean 4.3 or later.

Snapdragon™ Glance is an intelligent lock screen application, which makes it easy for you to quickly access the information you need. At a glance you can quickly see what is new since you last looked at your device: view important notifications, see when your next appointment is, check the weather, launch relevant apps and contact people more quickly. Once installed Snapdragon Glance launches each time you turn your screen on. From here you can use Glance or select the Home or Back buttons to access your regular home screen.

SimplyText SMS Text Messaging

The default (AOSP) Android SMS application leaves a lot to be desired, as do many manufacturer implementations, and not everyone is all that keen to combine texting with Google Hangouts. Submitted for your consideration is SimplyText, an alternative texting app with a slick card-based interface and some unique features. The biggest change from a standard SMS app is the photostream, which shows only the photos that have been sent to you.

SimplyText is texting, done better. A great replacement app for the stock SMS messaging app for your phone.

  • Beautiful, simple, clean interface.
  • Picture Message Photostream view of just your picture messages

Nine - Exchange ActiveSync

Nine is a power user's Exchange email client. It has most of the corporate bells and whistles of Outlook and the like, combined with an interface that basically copies the Android Gmail app (which, for those of us who are used to it, is a good thing). The app works with Exchange and other Microsoft email systems, plus Google Apps for Business, but not Gmail by itself. It's also pretty pricey at ten bucks, even on sale.

Nine is a full-fledged email application for Android based on Direct Push technology to synchronize with Microsoft Exchange Server using Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and also designed for entrepreneurs or ordinary people who want to have efficient communication with their colleagues, friends, ‎and family members at anytime, anywhere. You may already have good experience with other E-Mail apps for Android. Regardless of your existing experience, we will give you a superb experience more than anything else.

NBC Olympics Highlights

Android Police coverage: [New App] NBC Gets Ready For The Games With Olympics Highlights App

The Olympics are well underway, and if you want to watch them live... well, you can't do it from Android, at least if you're in the United States. But NBC will be happy to show you highlights from completed events, and let you know when the next ones come on TV, complete with lucrative advertising and sponsorships. A second screen function enhances the live broadcast on TV. As required of every Olympics app by IOC bylaws, NBC's highlights app also includes a medal count.

Experience the best of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games with the NBC Olympics Highlights and Results app. Get prepared for the Games now by checking out news, video, photos for every sport -- all from your Android handheld or tablet device. During the Olympics, you can follow every event from Sochi, including real-time results & schedules, medal counts and TV & Online listings. And during the nightly Primetime Show televised on NBC, the app will feature a second screen experience that makes a great companion to the on-air broadcast.

NoWait

Waiting at restaurants sucks, but going to another one - possibly to wait some more - sucks just as much. NoWait hopes to make that small modern inconvenience disappear with a list of local restaurants and their current wait times, plus the ability to add your name to the list without actually being there. Of course, you could just get a reservation ahead of time... I mean, you do have a phone in your hand after all. Currently the service is only active in certain cities.

Go to your favorite restaurant without waiting in line. NoWait® allows you to browse popular restaurants nearby, see how long the wait is, and put yourself on the waiting list right from the App. With NoWait, Wait Where You Want®.

NoWait:

• Shows you a list of nearby restaurants

• Displays the wait time for each restaurant as well as how far away it is from you

• Allows you to join the waiting list from your phone

• Shows you your place in line and updates your place in real time

MegaSound

Android's system-wide controls for notifications are a little weak, so this app lets you customize which sounds play for which app, no root necessary. It should be handy for all those apps (like Facebook) that don't let you customize their alerts. You'll need to give MegaSound some basic security access in order for it to work, but those who want it for very specific situations should be able to overlook that. Android 4.3 or higher is necessary.

Take the full control of the sounds for incoming notifications. Are you tired of constantly hearing the same ringtone for each notification? Whether email, Whatsapp or SMS. There is always the same ringtone. But that is now over. Megasound Beta is easily and intuitively to adjust specific sounds for all your apps. So you can already know by hearing which notification was playing the sound.

Legitimo

Oh how I wish I had this when I was on the playground, making bets with the local boys about who would win in a fight between Batman and Spiderman. Last Wednesday. Anyway, Legitimo allows you to draw up some extremely basic and common legal contracts for loans, leases, purchases, or services, all by asking just a few simple questions. The app will email the relevant contracts to all parties, and works in English or Spanish. There's one less thing you have to pay a lawyer for.

Legítimo allows you to make simple contracts on your phone in under 1 minute, in English or Spanish. All you have to do is answer a few easy questions and your contract is automatically generated. Then sign right on your phone and send it to the other person via email or text message for review. Legítimo also translates these contracts to other languages, enabling people that don’t speak the same language to negotiate transactions frictionlessly. Everything is stored securely on the cloud and can be accessed wherever you are.

Boston Marathon World Run

The Boston Marathon is coming up, and the organizers want Android user to participate. Well, not literally - that would leave Boston trampled and a lot of us (including yours truly) nearly dead. But they do have a motivational app that encourages you to train for the real thing, or whatever you can handle. There's a heavy social element that encourages friends and family to join in. Complete the full digital marathon and you'll get a real prize and racer's bib.

In this global celebration of movement, fitness, and commitment to ones personal wellness goals, the Boston Athletic Association invites people around the world to participate.

Spideo Movies

Spideo is a recommendation engine for movies, with the additional benefit of instant links to said movies in the Play Store. (It also works with Amazon, but at present there's no way to play those videos on vanilla Android hardware.) Add in your basic favorite films and genres, and the app will do the rest. It's a pretty good deal, but if you've got Netlix or Amazon Prime, you might want to search through both catalogs before giving Google more money.

Spideo allows you to explore and discover thousands of movies and TV shows matched to your exact moods and wishes. With this app you’ll receive recommendations for the most relevant titles and be able to watch them using your Kindle account. By learning about your tastes, moods, and friends, Spideo provides you with a truly personalized browsing experience. Think of it as a local video rental shop where the staff knows exactly what type of movies you like to watch.

Hiyu Grocery List & Discovery

As best I can tell, Hiyu is basically Instagram for groceries. Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what it sounds like - lots of food-related posts, photos, recipes, and grocery lists to match. Perhaps the best feature is an integrated tag system that lets you shop to match a certain mood or fad. Of course it's got all the usual social bells and whistles.

Hiyu is the app for all things grocery: Discover, Share + Organize. We've taken the grocery experience and made it social to help you discover the best products for your unique food lifestyle.

• Discover great products and recipes

• Share lists with your partner, roomate or friends

• Add photos to your list items, so you know exactly what to buy

Best Buds - Search.Save.Smoke.

Android Police coverage: [New App] Best Buds Is Foursquare For Weed, Helps You Get High Locally And Save Money

As Jimmy Buffet (probably) said, it's 4:20 somewhere. This is a list of the known medicinal marijuana dispensaries in the states that allow legal sales of the wacky weed, complete with directions and phone numbers. Supported locations participate in a frequent shopper program - buy ten eighths, get an eleventh free. (Um, that's the eleventh eighth, not one eleventh of an ounce.) Even if you're not in a state that allows medicinal marijuana, you can still use it to laugh at the names of these legitimate businesses. Check out "The Secret Stash" in Colorado Springs, CO.

AutoPebble

Android Police coverage: [New App] AutoPebble Brings Tasker-Style Functionality To Your Pebble Smartwatch, Requires 2.0 Firmware To Use

AutoPebble is Tasker for your Pebble smartwatch. That's pretty much the start and finish of it. The plugin requires Tasker (which generally requires root for a lot of the fun stuff) and a decent knowledge of Tasker's somewhat cumbersome scripting UI, but once you get it down, you can make your smartwatch react to just about any external or internal event or command.

--

AutoPebble is a Tasker plugin that allows you to completely customize your watch. AutoPebble is to the Pebble what Tasker is to your Android device. With all its versatility it allows anyone to build mini-apps on their Pebble that can replace many other apps. It's just like bringing Tasker into your Pebble. Get the AutoPebble unlocker here: http://goo.gl/DU0BJA . Free version is limited to 5 char commands. AutoPebble requires the Pebble 2.0 firmware and Android app.

HTTPS Everywhere for Firefox

This last app isn't really an app, it's an extension for the Android version of Firefox. It forces the HTTPS protocol everywhere it's available, making your web surfing considerably safer. You can download the extension from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which also has versions available for the desktop editions of Chrome and Firefox. At the moment Firefox is the only mobile browser that's supported.
