Update: The coupon code has already expired. Sometimes that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Update 1/27/14 12:17pm PT: New code Y8WGAYUM (via SD) should work today for the same $4 off.

Another device, another charger. That's the way the story goes. I personally leave a USB charger hanging from at least one outlet near every resting place in my apartment, but if you happen to need all of your devices in roughly the same place, my system won't exactly meet your needs. For you, there's the Anker 5-port USB charger on Amazon that's currently available for $19.99 on Amazon. If you enter the coupon code FAYE6HXU at checkout, you can get it for just $15.99.

This family-sized (or tech enthusiast-sized) wall charger has ports for the iPad (2.1), iPhone (1A), Samsung Galaxy Tab (1.3A), and general Android devices (1A). It comes with its own 2.5-foot detachable power cord, long enough for it to sit comfortably atop a desk or side table.

With smartphones, tablets, portable media players, laptops, smartwatches, fitness bracelets, Bluetooth speakers, and an ever-growing list of devices that need charging, the number of cables we're saddled with grows at a faster rate than the number of available power outlets we have in our homes. Now you could plug a surge protector into any of them and resolve this same problem, but if you would prefer a less bulky solution, here it is.

Serious question here: are there any negative effects if one plugs their Android into one of the higher power charging ports? Or the Android just can't take advantage of the faster charging?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ David Ruddock

No, your phone will intelligently scale the current. Modern phones and tablets have charging interfaces to prevent these sorts of problems.

      • mustbepbs

So what you're saying is, I can hook a power line right into my micro USB port?

        • Gandalf_Teh_Gray

Well why don't you go try it first.

        • effinay

The amperage will be scaled. The voltage still needs to be correct. (5v)

Family Sized? I carry around two tablets and two phones...that's individual sized.

    • Robert Bray

They're probably going on the idea that traditionally, the sort of person who'd deem this individual sized doesn't have a family anyway :P

  • Matti

Just bought this two weeks ago :) Works great and is just what I needed.

  • Mayoo

Antec Quad Port (UA4-25) or this?

I bought the PowerGen dual port charger and turns out the apple port only charges my GNex and N10 at USB speed despite the review that said it would be AC. I don't want to have to same problem again and the Antec one seems pretty solid (for a premium).

  • klitzkrieg

    expired already?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      It's back.

Is the promo expired? I just tried to buy it and it didn't work

    • mobilemann

well this makes me not feel so bad, having just bought one the week before.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      New code found.

  • Wam31

You see a lot of those multi device chargers at AP, which s good.
But, any chance of reviewing one that takes advantage of Qualcomm's Quick Charge (2A) ?
Maybe you already did, but I don't recall...

  • MikeP

    The promo code has expired

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      Try again with new code.

  • monkeysoup

I just now tried the code (Oct 28th, 2pm, Colorado) and it's already expired.

    • monkeysoup

Well, crap. It just got worse. I decided to buy it at the $19.99 asking price, just to find out that I waited a couple minutes too long. It's now only available from one seller at $911.00 each (that's not a typo).

      • Tuấn Ankh

Haha, I hate it when I find sellers trying that crap. I've seen an ebay seller selling the iPhone 4S or 5 at $100,000
        xD

        • Robert Bray

I believe that's normally done when it's out of stock but they don't want to take down/put up a new ad.

      • monkeysoup

Well, now it's not available at all, at any price. To think I was *that close*. lol

  • Dan

These are back in stock btw @ $19.99. I was all set to buy one when I saw how the ports are labeled. No thanks. If the labeling on the ports is that stupid, I don't see any reason to trust the electronic/electrical design of the product. There are too many other options available to encourage that sort of stupidity with a purchase.

    • ArberBeq

Anker is a solid brand plus this device has a good review. Though for $15 I think I can accept the fact that its labelled stupidly. I'm just going to scratch them off and put the amperage on them instead.

      • annon

It's more than amperage, Android and Apple devices need different connectors to negotiate quick charge. One expects data pins shorted, another expects voltage across the data pins.

    • Andrew

The ports seem to be labeled that way due to different devices drawing different amounts of current. Apple also uses a different method to signal how much current is available from a charger.

I too absolutely hate that the ports are labeled that way rather than their amperage.
But then again, you have to remember that these chargers are designed for stupid people that don't understand how most tablets are 1.3-2amp chargers, and with most phones being 1amps while most USB ports on laptops being only .5amps.
If you had the amperage on there, then the person would know that yeah, a couple of the ports output more power, but they still may not be smart enough to figure out which port to plug their device into and paranoid that they would cause a fire or ruin their device.
Sad that people are so ignorant, but yeah. I almost didn't buy it for the same reason but went ahead anyway.

New code today: LX8KY93A. Works for $4 off again.

  • JustinCrouch

Almost bought it and realized I don't need it :(

  • andy_o

Wow, I got the 36W 4-port just in time I guess, it's not listed anymore, even following the link from my order. Got it for $26.

  • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

Whoa, this is a one hell of a sweet charger. Gotta get one - I can't stand my coed's trying to find where to plug in their iPhones to charge them anymore lol

  • oneyedmonkey

Ha, Just ordered 10 of them off of amazon last week. Sure wish I would have waited. But I must say they work great!!

  • Daldain

I *had* one of these, and then I bought the black version where you don't have to fiddle with which port for the correct amperage.

    http://www.ianker.com/product/71AN7105-BA

Sadly seems to be out of stock at amazon at time of writing.

  • Dan

I ordered the black version of this from Amazon ($26 two weeks ago, $92 today, wtf?). When I ordered it, I thought I was just paying an extra $6 for black rather than white and not having to put up with the asinine labeling on the white version. Bonus surprise: ALL of the ports on the black version are high power rather than just a couple of them. The black version is 8A max for any combination of ports. This is may be the coolest toy I've found on Amazon.

    • Dan

BTW Anker and Plugable are either the same company or one of them is seriously ripping off the other. There are quite a few products that are available in identical versions from the two different brands.
