Motorola really wants you to buy a Moto X – like, a lot. After a series of $150 off holiday sales and TV promotions, the company permanently dropped the price of the device by $100. Now another sale is coming up and you can snag this killer phone for the lowest price yet, a mere $299 for the 16GB model.

The deal is only valid on January 27th (that's Monday) from 3-4PM Eastern. Within that window, you will be able to order a Moto X through Moto Maker for $100 less than usual. So that's $299 for the 16GB and $349 for the 32GB (add $25 if you want a wood back). This is subject to availability, of course, and all the past deals have sold out in minutes.

If you miss the window on Monday, there will be an ongoing sale through Valentine's Day. During this period, you will be able to get $70 off a Moto X (works out to $329 and up). These are both crazy deals for a phone that was $500 not that long ago.

    jesus christ

  • ProductFRED

This is great. I just hate the limited window. 1 hour? Really?

    • moelsen8

knowing moto they'll probably make it the permanent price in a month.

      • ProductFRED

That would be amazing. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I'm using an S4 on T-Mobile, which I have no problems with. I just wanted to try a white/silver/bamboo X, but couldn't justify the cost.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

They'll probably sell out in 15 minutes too.

  • baconslayer09

I wonder if this will work with the $50 off code you get from employees. I have no need for a Moto X (currently very happy with Nexus 5), but I don't know if I can resist it at $250. The touchless controls and Moto Assist are things that I really wish the Nexus 5 had.

    • dreadfall

This is how all phone should be priced... even the iPhone and S4

    • xnifex

I'm curious about this as well

    • HolyFreakingCrap

Only one way to find out!

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I doubt you can stack promo codes, but there's a slim chance.

      • baconslayer09

But from the looks of it, this $299 offer is a drop in price, you don't need a promo code to get it.

        • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Unless they'll just tweet a promo code to drop the price. We don't know yet.

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

You'll have to sign up for a promo code like the last time.

  • Wazzifer

Pathetic. This is how it should have been all along.

    • dreadfall

This is how all phone should be priced... even the iPhone and S4

  • rap

Can you save your design in advance and then just check out then.

    • Tony Byatt

Yeah, that's been an option since day one...

  • Scott

I can still return mine and buy another I suppose. Who knows if the site will crash or something stupid like that.

  • Dominic Powell

I am pretty confident at this point, The Moto X was just R & D and marketing of the new Motorola brand, for the Moto X - 2 They'll finally have all their systems in place, (In the US & Latin America at least), for a monster customizable phone for 2Q of this year.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

      Sounds reasonable

    • thartist

      God hear you.

  • Ryan Callihan

I bought my Moto X during the Chromecast promotion. It would seem that I pulled the trigger a bit too early.

    • Derail Doax

No kidding. I was all excited about my unlocked 16GB Moto G at $200 then they released the Verizon Moto G at $99.... Now a 16 GB Moto X at $299, totally making me feel worse and worse about my purchase. I still love my Moto G, but it's getting to be less and less of a good deal.

  • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

I hate myself for contemplating this. Seriously, I feel really stupid about it. I own a Nexus 5, damn it. But from the moment I got my hands on a Moto X I was floored by its build, and I love the customization options. $449 for a second phone I don't need was crazy, though. $349? Well, still crazy. Just slightly less so.

Ugh. I need to be smarter than this and at least wait for the next model.

    • Brandon Miller

I'm the same exact way. I have a Nexus 5 too but I found myself arguing with myself on whether I should buy a Moto X last week. I knew it would be absolutely idiotic since I love my N5 but I still wanted to. Ended up deciding against it. Then this happens and they drop it another $100. It is just soooooooo damn tempting.

      • NitPicker

Nexus 5 or Google play editions are for those who want the latest from android dev team. Moto X are for those who want a phone that has the features a phone should have by now. Considering that no other manufacture has anything close to what Motorola developed kind of baffles me. Touchless Control should be housed in every device.

      • Alex

Count me in with soooooo tempted lol. Touchless control is drilling me, I'm holding back for Moto X2 with quality camera, pleeeeze!

    • thartist

Guess what! Just get it and sell the Nexus! The X is a much more exciting device, that's why it is still tempting over the rather duller N5.

      • Chris

Plus the camera in the X destroys the N5

        • NitPicker

Really? I heard way too many times its the other way around

        • Niral Ramesh

Are you crazy? The Nexus 5 has a respectable camera and a fantastic one when you consider the price. The Moto X's camera is downright bad, even after the latest software update.

    • Bob Smith

You're right you are crazy. The nexus 5 is a far superior phone to the Moto x and it would be crazy to downgrade to it. I would never trade my nexus 5 for a Moto x even if you gave me $50 on top of it. The only thing the Moto x has over the nexus 5 is the active notification but I easily mimic that feature with the NILS app. Moto x is inferior in every other way.

    • Dafuq

      I bought a Moto X...I have an N5...

I have no use for the Moto X and I can't even hot swap the Sims as thy are different sizes (Micro N5, Nano MX)...

      so I'm just here...chillin with 2 phones

    • NitPicker

Chances are that there will be no better deal than this. Reason being is that Samsung S5 is coming out and other Manufacturers are coming out with much better phones or at least on par with this phone. So Motorola wants people to spend their money on the Moto X so they can't afford to purchase the new phones coming out in the next 2-3 Months. I so predicted that they will give a discount again further from the $399 but my guess was that it would be $50 dollar discount not a whopping $100 dollar discount. And on top of that it smart, they are emptying their supplies to manufacture a new phone that would probably release in July or August.

  • legend618

    psst! Motorola, Canada here

  • Rob

As expected the GSM Carrier Unlocked unit is still $449.99 for the 32GB. #NoSale

    • Roy Chao

Are you talking about the Moto X Developer Edition? Or is that tmobile/att option which is labeled GSM Unlocked?

      • Rob

It's just the GSM Unlocked (compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile) but off-contract. It is not the Developer's Edition. That was the price stated at checkout on motomaker.com yesterday. I also realize that the January 27th price drop wasn't yet applied, so it might mean this version of the phone would be $349.99 on Monday during the referenced times, but I can't comment on that as of yet.

  • Ashish Kumar

This just means that Motorola is clearing their stock, they have a new device lined up... Make the best of the discounts.

  • Ryan Katner

just ordered it. But it cost still 450(

    • http://samuelmcconnell.com Samuel McConnell

      Sale isn't till Monday, son.

    • Poop_floats

Cancel order and reorder at this link https://www.motorola.com/us/motomaker?pid=FLEXR1#exterior/backplate
not sure if you were going to go the contract route or not.

    • http://volumeboy-man.bandcamp.com/ VBM

Quickly cancel the order and re-up on Monday...two days...nerd! :)

  • YankInDaSouth

Have a Verizon Note 3 and been not too happy with call quality and data reception ... been really interested in the X, but the significant reduction in size has me concerned. But, for under $400 I may have to try it out! I don't like it I return it ... I like it I sell the N3 and probably make a little cash too :)

  • Poop_floats

Please explain how I just built a moto x with a wood back & bumper case for $125.00?

    link here -

    • http://samuelmcconnell.com Samuel McConnell

That's the carrier-subsidized price for Verizon, Sprint, or ATT.

    • jeffrey beck

That, my friend, is the price after signing a 2 year contract and a brilliant example of why less intelligent consumers across America balk at the full price of high end smartphones when they come into my T-Mobile store. "What!? You sell your iphone for 600 dollars? I can get one for only 200 dollars on sprint! What a ripoff." Sigh. Math must be really hard for a lot of people.

      • Poop_floats

But what kind of monthly prices will I pay thru t-mobile? $70 a month for unlimited data. I can get 4gb from version for $70 a month or 6gb for $80.
This is all the data I will use and enough for the free mobile hot spot for my n7 when out and about. Verizion has great service and I cant really afford to come out of pocet $450.00 plus at once.
Let me know if I am missing some thing. Also I can go down to the 16gb moto x for $75.00 as I have learned I do not need that much installed on my phone when I regularly use my n7.

      • Poop_floats

forget my last reply, I just almost checked out thru Verizon and my monthly bill was going to be $100 for 2gb plan, $110 for a 4gb plan and I'm sure $120 plus for the 6gb plan. What are you offering as I think Im going to be stuck to Boostmobiles moto g unlimited for $55 a month. That's with shrinking payments.

  • http://volumeboy-man.bandcamp.com/ VBM

Now, I don't know what to do... I torn between the (16gb) N5 and the MotoX, but the N5's better specs and lower cost made it the winner for me. But now on two separate days the MotoX will be cheaper than a N5... Either phone would be a step up as I'm currently in bed with a HTC One S-still.

  • Dafuq

man what the fuck. I just bought one.

  • NitPicker

They should of made it at minimum 3 hours. I could guarantee their site is going to crash again -_-

  • Corey Batchelor

I was about to get the Nexus 5 because it was a super nice phone for the price (half the price of a Galaxy S4 or any other flagship) but I also kept eyeing the Moto X. The deciding factor was the price. The Moto X was $100 more than the Nexus 5 and while I liked the build and features of the Moto X, it wasn't worth the extra $100. Right before I was about to place the order for the Nexus 5, I caught Motorola doing the cyber Monday promotion making the Moto X the same price as the Nexus 5. That made me decide on the Moto X. I don't regret it to this day. Everyone claiming it's an inferior phone or a downgrade to the Nexus 5, needs to quit rating phones purely by CPU numbers. The Moto X is NOT a slow phone and never lags. Its dual-core is still powerful and has two more cores on top of that purely for voice and gesture recognition. It has 2 GB of RAM and the GPU is barely behind the one in the Nexus 5 but probably performs just as well because the Moto X has less pixels to push around. I bought the phone because it is 95% pure android with features that are actually useful. I also prefer the AMOLED display. Updates aren't the magical incentive of the Nexus 5, either. The Moto X got KitKat extremely fast. Mine updated to it as soon as I connected to WIFI pulling it out of the box. It's really just preference at this point. But IMO, it's ignorant to call the Moto X an inferior phone. I have a glass screen protector and Otterbox Defender on my X because this is the first phone I feel like I wanna keep for a long time and actually keep stock. Everything else sucked until I flashed a new custom ROM over the stock ROM.
