2014GalaxyNote10.1-Thumb

The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 currently has a starting price of $549.99 at most retailers, making it a relatively pricey tablet. Yet with its 2560x1600 10-inch display, 3GB of RAM, and quirky S Pen functionality, there's a lot to like here. So if you have your heart set on this device, and you aren't above picking up a refurbished model, then you can currently get one on Groupon for just $389.99. That's a 30% discount equating to a savings of $159.01. The larger, 32GB model is on sale for just $30 more, and both are available in either black or white.

Good price for a good tablet. I paid full retail for mine and don't regret it at all.

would you recommend the exynos or snapdragon?

      • Ibrahim Awwal

I don't know if you can really choose the CPU without choosing to buy an LTE version for Snapdragon. And the LTE versions are very expensive ($700ish last I checked).

This looks like a great deal! I was just getting ready to buy a used Nexus 10. I know this has slightly higher specs and a tighter form factor, but I'm a bit worried about developer support, so I'll probably still be going with the N10.

    • Cory_S

I don't know a lot about exynos SoC, but I am going to guess the quad in this one is much better than the one in the Nexus 10. I hear a lot about performance issues on that one.

In all likelihood, this device will probably not have that much custom ROM support since it's more of a niche device. Speaking as an owner of the original Note 10.1, there were only a handful of AOSP ROM developers and they all sort of moved on. Now I'm trying to pick up the reins and am learning a lot porting Kitkat (I'm doing builds of OmniROM 4.4). But I really want the higher res screen so I am very tempted to pick this up. The issue is that I would want to port an AOSP based ROM to it and I imagine that could take me months to get working, and I don't see any activity on that front from anyone else on XDA. But it might be a fun project for me to pursue and learn more, I just hope it's not beyond my reach, since it seems Exynos based devices are trickier to work with (I have experienced this a little bit so far, Samsung source releases are pretty crappy, but luckily I started working on a device that was already well supported so there isn't much for me to do here - there are very few Exynos 5 devices out there with AOSP based ROM support, so there's not that much to build off of for the 2014 edition).

It's refurbished, does that mean it'll have scratches and usage marks? Or do they make them practically like new? Also what's the warranty?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Refurb most of the time is stuff that was returned in like new condition that was then refurbished to function and look like new. I don't think they'd sell stuff with scratches as refurbished unless they could fix it first. It's like buying 2nd hand, with a guarantee that everything works and was properly examined and fixed up.

As for the warranty, per Groupon's page: "90-day warranty from Samsung."

Just returned mine. Received it with obvious parts missing (no damage, just missing the bezel on top leaving a nice hole in the top). Called Samsung, run around (4 phone number hand off game), wrote Samsung, was told they'd call, waited two days, nope. Called Samsung, was told it must have been dropped return it to seller, they wouldn't cover missing parts under warranty. Tried, they made it clear the refurb warranty didn't seem to apply to refurbs. Love our S4s, bought Square Trade warranties for them, at least Square Trade honors their warranties.

I just received the black 32 gig from groupon yesterday. The tablet appears to be brand new however it was repackaged in a refurbished packaging box. I was a little dissapointed because the last time i bought a samsung tablet new it came with extra s pen tips and installation tool and this one did not. Just so everyone knows, i contacted groupon and they informed me that their reburbished tablets are infact new. Refurbish means that the item did not pass QC check during manufacture due to an identified issue. The issue is repaired and the item then must be sold as refurbished.
Has anyone else noticed how hot the charger gets when the tablet is charging?
