In case you haven't been paying attention, there has been a storm of Android 4.4.2 updates for Google Play Edition devices over the past few days. It started Friday with the HTC One and Galaxy S4, and continued yesterday with the G Pad 8.3. Now, it's time for Sony Z Ultra GPE owners to get in on the action. The OTA weighs in at hefty 444 MB and, like all other recent GPE updates, will bring the phone up to date with current Nexus devices at Android 4.4.2/KOT49H.

This update fixes numerous device-specific bugs including the security settings crash and inability to uninstall apps. Additionally, this also fixes problems with Google Now voice commands and clearing app data. If you're curious as to what's changed in Android between versions 4.4 and 4.4.2, you should check out our comparison. As with all Nexus and GPE updates, this one is rolling out in stages. If you don't want to wait, you can download the update directly from Google's servers and flash it manually.

Thanks, cob2004 and @TheNewsHQ!

It's interesting how the Xperia brand of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is no longer there with the Google Play Edition.

I guess the name would've otherwise been too long, understandably.

Might also be an oversight :)

Xperia branding would imply the Sony UI and software would be included. Its not, thus just Z Ultra

        But but but:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition?

          But but but:
          Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

Well as someone who owned a Samsung Galaxy Nexus as opposed to a Google Galaxy Nexus you're experience is shit, they are stuck on 4.2.1 at least in my country.

Same thing with the GS4. The "Galaxy S4" branding appears nowhere on the GS4 GPE. You only have a Samsung logo above the earpiece and a Samsung logo on the battery door.

It's still listed as Galaxy S4 in the Google Play Store though, the Z Ultra has no mention of Xperia at all, anywhere

That's true. I'm sure that was a very deliberate thing on Sony's part. It's understandable in some ways, though it seems ludicrous in other ways. On the one hand, the Xperia name implies certain features that the Google Play Edition simply does not have, by virtue of it running stock Android.

Cool! Reported in the morning - fixed in the evening. I wish they fixed the back button as fast as this.

    Want this!!!!

my update fixed the physical issues on my new z Ultra gpe. but Google/Sony wasted my time and patience. As I said before, Google has me feeling the same as I did in the early 1990's about MS. I liked their products, but the repeated bad product experience drove me away. MORE TIME making a better customer experience over more bells and whistles PLEASE.

Looking forward to flashing this onto my Z Ultra. It'll be nice to have stock Android almost direct from Google on a non-Nexus device.
