If you own an HTC One GPE, it's time to start keeping an eye on your system update screen. HTC has released kernel source and framework files for the new update and people are beginning to report receiving the actual update. The firmware version is 3.62.1700.1, which is Android 4.4.2/KOT49H. This brings the HTC One GPE up to date with current Nexus devices.

If you want to know what's changed between 4.4 and 4.4.2, check out our comparison. Specifically worth noting is that 4.4.2 removes App Ops and closes a known SMS exploit that was discovered about a month ago. Let us know in the comments if you receive the OTA update and if you notice any notable changes. The OTA update rolls out in stages, but if you don't want to wait, and have bootloader S-OFF, you can download the OTA directly from Google's servers and flash it manually.

Thanks, Tambe Barsbay, Sapplegater and TheManii!

Nice. Now G Pad GPE, S4 GPE, and Z Ultra GPE to go.

People are reporting getting the G Pad 8.3 GPE update, but no files yet and no proof beyond a lone screenshot. Samsung released the GS4 GPE kernel source so we know that OTA is coming in very short order. There hasn't been so much as a whisper about the Z Ultra GPE though.

G-pad got theirs earlier yesterday. Been posted links via links and images since then. :)

Do you have a link to somewhere that someone posted the actual OTA link for the G Pad?

HTC are doing well with updates now. This could lead to a turn around for them if they keep it up!

Could I flash this to the Sprint HTC ONE? 4.3 ota and rooted.

    • Matt McNair

No you can't. Completely different hardware and system.

Does anyone know if it brings any of the Nexus 5 camera improvements?

    • Ionut David

I can confirm that the camera is snappier, the focus is faster. Can't say anything about image quality but some changes are there for sure.

I have flashed this twice now and both times I received the old "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card." error message when trying to install various apps. I spent all day yesterday trying to resolve the issue, but no luck. Fortunately I was able to restore from a nandroid backup.

flash the stock recovery image on the phone.. place the update on your sdcard, then flash using "update with phone storage." thats what i did.. I had a stock rooted version of 4.4. After I reflashed a custom recovery and Supersu.

      • Kal0bad

which stock recovery image? can you point me out to the right one please!!

        • Juan Lopez

I downloaded the zip like if I'm doing a conversation, then extracted the Recovery image from it. I downloaded "flash image GUI" from the market (paid app) the just use that to flash the recovery.

Since I got the 4.4.2 OTA update, I can't change the system media volume with my Bluetooth headset anymore.

It worked fine in 4.4. Has anyone experienced the same?

This was really convenient and one of the best new features from Android 4.4, and now it's gone again :/

I flashed it on and now i lost root how can i gain this back
