Google wants to entice you to buy a Nexus 7 from the Play Store, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter where you pick one up. So if you're looking to snag one in time for Christmas at a discounted price, Office Depot is currently willing to sell you one for $50 off. This brings the price of the 16GB model down to $179.99.

If you insist on buying the larger 32GB model (and really, I wouldn't blame you), Office Depot is willing to part with that for $40 off the usual retail price. It's not as large a savings, but hey, $229.99 is what you would usually pay for the 16GB model, so it's still a good deal.

Interesting enough, this deal brings the 16GB 2013 Nexus 7 down to the same price as last year's version. If for whatever reason you still prefer the original, you can pick that up for the same $179.99. I wouldn't, but I'm well aware that the world doesn't revolve around me.

Is Best Buy really honoring this?

I bought my N7 at Best Buy on the 4th. I went in last night and they no longer honor price drops at other stores except at the time of the original sale. I returned it. I could have then turned around and purchased another, and they would have honored the price, but I decided they could go screw themselves, so I went and bought one at Office Deopt. I also got the McAfee live antivirus thing and might even use it. It took me about 1/2 a day to reprovision my new tablet, and Best Buy got stuck with a used tablet they either have to sell at a loss or send back to Asus.

I bought the Nexus 7 32gb to give as a gift for Christmas $249, I'll be going by today to see if they will honor the $229. I purchased the device on black Friday from office depot.
