What's New

Introducing the brand new reddit sync! Featuring:

  • Cards UI

  • Multireddit support
  • Re-written from the ground up

To make this deal just a little sweeter, the Pro version of the app is still on sale for $1. It's definitely worth picking up, and now it looks better than ever. If you're on the fence about shelling out a dollar, however, there's also a free version you can check out.

Wow it looks amazing... Looks like it's time to switch from BaconReader, the longer you use it the more unstable it gets, crashes, doesn't load pics...

    • Enes Taşdemir

And time for me to switch from Reddit Is Fun, it seems awesome.

      • didibus

I'll have to try it before convincing me it's time to switch from Reddit News though...

    • http://androidforums.com/members/kwest12.html kwest12

I'd also strongly recommend trying Reddit News. I've tried all them (save this new update to Reddit Sync) and I keep coming back to RN. Give yourself a minute to understand the swiping gestures - once you learn those (it isn't very complicated) it saves you lots of time and more efficiently utilizes the screen space.

      • http://gplus.to/mbirth Markus Birth

Is there a setting in Reddit News to make it go to the comments without having to swipe the button bar first?

  • http://katzmatt.com/ Matt Katzenberger

So glad this update is finally released. I don't think I could ask for a better way to browse reddit on my nexus 10.

  • http://www.Nave360.com Sebastian Gorgon

I would be willing to purchase the Pro version if the developer wasn't greedy by not offering this $1 deal in the UK, it costs $2.61 in the UK!

    • http://laurencedawson.com/ Laurence Dawson

Developer here, it was on sale everywhere (including the UK) for black Friday, they must of just caught the end of the sale

      • http://www.Nave360.com Sebastian Gorgon

Fair enough, although today is Cyber Monday =)

        • http://laurencedawson.com/ Laurence Dawson

Good point, I've knocked it back down to a dollar or 66p :) Might take an hour or two to show,

          • http://www.Nave360.com Sebastian Gorgon

Thank you, you certainty are not greedy, I take that back and apologise.

          • turdbogls

its worth it at full price man. i have been on the Dev app for a couple months now and it hasn't given me any problems, it looks great, and its full featured.

      • Oil_dollar

Is it just me who hasnt got the update to V8? I'm using Pro by the way.

  • http://skorch.co.uk/ Antony Derham

I think I'll stick to RedReader.

    • Redder

+1 on this. Pretty awesome interface.

      • http://skorch.co.uk/ Antony Derham

Indeed. It's the best Reddit app I've used. And it's FOSS :D

  • Christian Eckhardt

I use "Flow for reddit" it is Pre-Beta status, but it runs very nice, looks good.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deeptrouble.yaarreddit , but maybe i will give reddit sync with its updated UI a try.

    • ddpacino

Flow user here, too. I only got into reddit a few weeks ago and immediately tried a few apps and Flow is the best, imo. I will give this a spin, though.

      • turdbogls

yeah, i enjoyed it for a while as well, but I remember a time when i wanted to post something (dont do it much) it is just wasn't supported at the time. kinda a deal breaker. Been on Reddit Sync Dev app for a while now....it's had most of these features for a month or more.
its a solid app, and is easily the best Reddit app out there.....and i have tried them ALL.

        • ddpacino

Odd. I've had Flow for about a month or so and have always been able to post. Trying Sync now and... still feeling Flow, but will ride with this for a few days and break it in. Gotta love options.

          • turdbogls

i have been off flow for a couple months now....I'm sure they implemented a fix for that issue...it just gave me the push to find something new....and i have been happy with Reddit Sync Dev

        • Andrew

Yeah, if I recall, if reddit gives you a captcha upon posting, Flow couldn't handle that.

  • Dennis Strömberg

This is a great reader. I've been using this version for a couple of weeks now and it's just awesome. I'd recommend buying Reddit Sync Dev to be able to get the awesome stuff early :)

  • Sqube

There was something about how Reddit Sync is set up that made it really hard for me to use it effectively; switched to Reddit News and haven't looked back.

Might have to give it another try, though.

  • DirkBelig

    >"To make this deal just a little sweeter, the Pro version of the app is still on sale for $1."

No, it isn't. It's showing as $2 now.

Tried it and already had it freeze up on me within a few minutes. Oh well. Stuck with BaconReader which is starting to suck.

    • akshay7394

Check out Flow for Reddit on the play store. Fantastic app, i ditched BR for it long ago.

    • http://katzmatt.com/ Matt Katzenberger

      >When you make a comment, it doesn't show until you manually refresh the page?

It shows immediately, but as the top reply to whatever parent comment/post you're replying to.

      • DirkBelig

No, it doesn't. I've made comments on four posts, three of which had no comments at all and the other had just one, and all of them required a refresh before it appeared.

        • http://katzmatt.com/ Matt Katzenberger

its working fine for me: http://imgur.com/KXrSjFd

          • DirkBelig

That's nice. It's not working for me.

Why do people think it's helpful when others are having trouble to chirp, "I'm not having any problems, so there's no problem"?

          • http://katzmatt.com/ Matt Katzenberger

because saying it "isn't working for me", when it is working for most people and your problem can't be reproduced doesn't help anyone diagnose it.

would you try replying to a post, not a comment, and then scrolling up to the top of that post in seeing if you're comment is there?

          • DirkBelig

What part of, "I've made comments on four posts, three of which had no comments at all," was unclear?

Here are three screenshots of me making the first comment on a post: As it was submitting; afterwards; after refreshing. I tried to get one with the "Comment submitted" toast, but it wouldn't snap. (Note the clock time showing the last was after the first two.)

          • http://katzmatt.com/ Matt Katzenberger

DOH! You're not on v8. You're still on v7. This will be fixed when the update rolls out to you over the next day or so.

If you want to force the update you can join the beta by joining the google plus group then clicking to become a tester. Otherwise, you should be on the latest version soon.

          • DirkBelig

I just went and installed it from the Play Store when I saw the story this morning. I presumed that since it was about a new version being released, it would - you know - be released released.

If the update is coming shortly, I can wait for it. No biggie.

          • http://katzmatt.com/ Matt Katzenberger

Yup. No worries. Because it's such a major update the rollout is being staggered the same way google does with new app updates to help catch any showstopper bugs.

          • DirkBelig

Well, I got the update and after using it for a week, it's got a pair of problems, one minor, one fatal:

            * When there's a link to a gallery, there's no option to download all of the images in one folder like BaconReader does it. There should be an option to either save the whole thing or the current image.

            * It is a monstrous battery hog. Within 5-10 minutes of use my Nexus 5 became very warm to the touch and checking battery usage shows it's running the CPU full tilt when in use. As slick as it may be, no one can sacrifice that much juice. Too bad.

  • chris

Personally I hate the new update. I like the way it looks but it became impossible to up/downvote anything. Every time you try the up/down arrows show up at the top of the screen, which is a huge pain in the ass. I liked the old system where the arrows would show up at the bottom of each post/comment.

    • bryan

i miss being able to swipe betweeen subreddits.

  • Steve Belongie

This such a great app. Time to upgrade to the pay version

  • http://androidforums.com/members/kwest12.html kwest12

I've tried them all and I've even tried to switch, but I always end up coming back to Reddit News. It's just in a different class than its competition. I will still give this rewrite of Reddit Sync a look though.

    • didibus

Agree, there's only one thing missing from reddit news, that's a way to swipe form one post to the next. Apart from that, everything is perfect.

      • http://androidforums.com/members/kwest12.html kwest12

I almost never want to got thread by thread, sequentially, but that's obviously a preference thing. For me, I much prefer to have the swiping gestures that allow me to vote, reply, etc, In particular, I like that the swyping features generally reduce the amount that I need to be long-clicking and maximizes screen space.

        • didibus

I mostly like it for viewing picture heavy subreddits.

          • http://androidforums.com/members/kwest12.html kwest12

            I too enjoy gonewild

  • Ryuuie

It is no longer $1 in the US but eh. I don't even use Reddit and this app is about to make me think twice and buy it at full price.

I'd say that experience is worth $2. :)

  • KoalaBear84

    I didn't know Reddit was called Google+ :|

    • KoalaBear84

Lol @ downvotes. It's a 99% copy of the cards design.

  • Rob Johnson

Why would you use an app for Reddit when you can just use Chrome?

    • Yury Tilis

Because this way it will send you notifications when people reply or message you? It'll also cache posts, hence the name Reddit Sync.

For example, I can visit /r/talesfromtechsupport before I leave for work, and then read through all the stories on the page while I'm on the subway with no network connection. Something that can't currently be done in the web version.

  • Hubert Song

I've been using Reddit Sync Dev which has had this update for over two months I believe.

  • http://www.Nave360.com Sebastian Gorgon

I downloaded the free version and it still has the old UI, I purchased the pro version and it's the same, what's the problem?

  • Pascal

I was using old app, it will take some time to get used to this new ui, but it's nice.

    • dylan84

He released the old app as Reddit Sync Classic if you still want to stick with the old design.
