Hooray! Shortly after the Nexus 4 OTA zip link was finally discovered, we can now say the same about both data-connected Nexus 7s - the 2012 3G edition and the 2013 LTE. These are the last devices we didn't have manual update links for, so now it's safe to say that the KitKat Nexus rollout has been fully completed.

As to not repeat the same flashing instructions, I'm going to direct the 2012 3G owners to this post and 2013 LTE owners to this one. Just download the correct files below, and you should be good to go.

Any chance that there is an OTA for deb/LTE that is KRT16O > KRT16S?

    • Peter

I'm waiting for that too. If you get it first, please try grab the filename or url.

      • justin

How do you get the URL?

    • Brad Breitenstein

Did you ever get the update? I am still stuck on KRT16O

      • John McGing

No, I bit the bullet and reimaged the thing with KRT160S. Just did the OTA sideload of the 4.4.1 OTA on top of it and it worked fine.

AP: I'm having a SERIOUS problem. I just got the OTA 4.4. on my Nexus 4, but after I installed it, I automatically noticed some things wrong:

    1. When the home screen booted, it had deleted all the app shortcuts I made, and replaced them. When I realized all my apps were there, it was ok, I just re-added everything.

    2. But then I realized that my home button (the middle software key) isn't working! I also noticed that when I pull the notification bar down, it doesn't let me toggle between notifications and settings. Has anyone else experienced this?

    3. I've also noticed that when I click power off, it won't let me turn on Airplane mode or toggle between vibrate and silence.

Any ideas what happened? I DID enable developer tools and switch to ART, but it was doing this even before that. Should I switch back?

AP staff/fellow readers, if you have any tips, it would be great. I really don't want to wipe the phone!

    • Jonathan Cammisuli

Did you happen to enable force GPU to draw 2D things or something along those lines?

    • Aaron Kelly

I've got the same problems. Any solution for you yet?

    • Irfan

Same here (all of the above). However I did not enable developer tools. And I had to do a sideload (via adb) instead because after installing through the OTA my phone wouldn't go past the loading screen.
Also it doesnt ask for my pin after coming out of sleep mode. I haven't come across any fix online so far.

    • László Monda

Same problem here, eagerly waiting for a fix!

    • László Monda

Factory reset did the trick (and made a lot of work for me)! https://plus.google.com/+AndroidPolice/posts/bSYeMRr8pTA

    • http://www.LOVEanon.org/ Michael Oghia (Ogie)

Hey everyone, here's an update. I've discovered even more problems. For one, my lock screen doesn't come up at all. Second, I'm not getting any notifications (though the LED notification works).

It's definitely a problem with the OTA update of 4.4 (my apps work fine for the most part (e.g., WhatsApp keeps crashing)).

According to László and others, a factory reset fixes it (but that is obviously not the best way to go about it unless you have to).

    • Kristjan Adojaan

Exactly the same here. Needed to sideload and all the symptoms described above. And Google Now does not slide from bottom up any more. It opens only when clicking upper search bar.
Regarding to home button. The only moment, when it does something is when I have FB Home lock screen active, clicking home closes it and opens normal screen.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Yup, same happened to me. Had to reset.

      • http://www.LOVEanon.org/ Michael Oghia (Ogie)

It's ridiculous. With the size and scope of Google, how'd something so messed up get passed their beta testers?

  • Rishabh Chandra

Will this root my device and does it effect my warranty

  • Nathan S.

I'm still waiting for my 2012 Nexus 7 wifi to get the OTA notification.... :( As of late last night, check for updates did not find the 4.4 update. I guess I will try again tonight.

    • Scott Breitbach

Me too. It's frustrating to see all these non-nexus devices getting updated before me.

      • Nathan S.

!!! I think mine showed up this morning! I saw a notification that it had a system update downloaded as I was walking out the door for work. Will install tonight and see how it goes.

        • Scott Breitbach

Indeed, I checked for an update last night and there it was. We must have been in the last wave :/

  • Kevin Kohrman

Nexus 7 2012 Wifi OTA is out. I just did mine.

  • Woodroop

I tried to manually instal, but when it was getting ready to instal on the nexus 7, it said: E: signature verification failed. and aborted the install. Any solutions?

    • Igor Farago

Same here with Nexus 7 2013. I'm unlocked, stock, rooted, custom recovery (TWRP), googling for solution, but I guess in the end I'll have to manually install it.

  • Hendrik

You claim that the last Nexus 7 devices to get the KitKat 4.4 upgrade are the ones mentioned in your article. However I`ve got a Nexus 7 2012 and has not seen your link for manual upgrade for this model. Don`t be like that, be nice to us :-)
