The Sony SmartWatch 2 is already cheaper than the Galaxy Gear, but thanks to two instant coupon offers, you can get it now for half the price of Samsung's product. Rakuten.com lists two retailers willing to part with Sony's watch for $149.99. Just head over to the site and add the device to your cart to have the discount applied immediately.

With this discount, the SmartWatch 2 is available for the same price as the Pebble. It has a full color display and a rounded, aluminum body. While it may not pair with every Android phone out there, at least it doesn't work exclusively with Sony phones. That alone is reason enough for more people to take a look.

Amazon currently sells this watch for $169.99. Newegg offers it at $199.99, its usual cost. This deal undercuts both prices, so if you want to take advantage of it, be sure to act fast. One offer is only valid until the 21st, the other, the 22nd.

Born and raised in the rural South, Bertel knows what it's like to live without 4G LTE - or 3G, for that matter. The only things he likes sweeter than his tea are his gadgets, and while few objects burn more than a metal phone on a summer day, he prefers them that way anyway.

How is this compared to a Pebble?

    • Nosferatu Amsterdam

Bought one and returned it after 1 day, very buggy and limited only got gmail to work on it and you only get to see about 4 or 5 lines of the email text and that's it, other emails won't work on it even though there is an app supposedly for it, the app says its not compatible. works ok for sms but there is also no option to delete any messages which is very strange. not worth it

      • Glen Cook

"only get to see about 4 or 5 lines of the email text and that's it". eNotify will show you the entire email and let you reply from the watch notification as well...It works with any email account not just Gmail. If you're not using it for email you're really missing out on a good experience.

Rakuten is sort of known around Slickdeals for credit card fraud. Be careful.

  • Jorge C

Amazon currently sells it for 159, so if you have Prime, it might just be a better deal taking into account the two day shipping

    • Dcc

True, I have prime and was thinking to go with Amazon but I thought it would be best to save $20-25 as you still have to pay tax. The Rakuten deal has two companies offering the deal and free shipping. Paying less than $150 was the mental threshold for me.

One other Smart watch to launch this week is the Z-Watch from SmartQ Devices-- SmartQ won a distinguished 2013 CTIA E-Tech Award for the world's first tablet with a built in DLP projector and is now offering an innovative smartwatch that compares to Sony's Smart watch 2 and the Galaxy Smart watch ($200-$300) with comparable features, but is priced about the same as the Pebble Watch ($150) --

The new SmartQ Z-Watch has one of the highest screen resolutions and largest battery capacities of all models available, features Bluetooth 4.0, and has an energy efficient processor running at a full 1GHz (Sony & Pebble Watch in comparison run at less than 200 MHz, which means less responsive performance.)
The Sonywatch also only uses Bluetooth 3.0 and not 4.0 with BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) consumption, so there is much greater drain on the battery.

It's still pretty expensive but I'd imagine the price to be dirt cheap years from now -- Andrew @ vividgiftideas.com
