You've spent months stumbling through the miasma of rumors and leaked FCC documents, but we've reached the light at the end of the tunnel. The LG Nexus 5 is official and it's listed in the Play Store. Pricing is exactly as previously leaked – $349 for the 16GB phone and $399 for 32GB. The phone comes in all black and the white/black panda-phone model. As for the specs, they are exactly as leaked, which is to say, killer.

Here's the full spec listing from Google Play:

  • Screen: 4.95-inch 1920×1080 display (445 ppi) with Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • Processor: 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor
  • Cameras: 1.3MP front facing, 8MP rear facing OIS
  • Weight: 130 grams
  • Storage: 16GB or 32GB
  • Ram: 2GB RAM
  • Battery: 2300mAh
  • Ports & Connectors: microUSB, SlimPort enabled, 3.5mm stereo audio jack, Dual microphones, Ceramic power and volume buttons
  • Dimensions: 69.17 x 137.84 x 8.59 mm
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi (2.4/5GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC (Android Beam), Bluetooth 4.0
  • Network: GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10, WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19, LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
  • Operating System: Android 4.4 KitKat

This is the first Nexus phone to launch with an absolutely top-of-the-line ARM chip in the Snapdragon 800 – past models have always been just a little behind the curve in that department. Storage is also up where it ought to be for a device with no SD card. The camera might be taking one for the team, having been dropped down to 8MP from the 13MP sensor LG used in the G2 chassis, but the addition of OIS can give us at least some hope of a better photo experience.

 g

The device is barely larger than the Nexus 4 was, despite the larger screen. In fact, it's slightly lighter thanks to the choice to go with a soft-touch plastic back instead of a slab of breakable glass. If you've ever held a 2013 Nexus 7, it's probably going to feel like a smaller version of that.

There are four different bumper cases this time around that come in gray, yellow, black, and red. Also, you can get one of two flip case "QuickCovers" in either black or gray. The bumpers are $34.99 and the QuickCovers are $49.99, but aren't available yet.

If you have been hankering to place an order for the Nexus 5, see the links below for the model of your choice and get ready to wrestle with Google's servers – hopefully things go better this year than they did last time. Orders being placed now are showing as leaving the warehouse on 11/5, so you've still got a few days to go. The device is for sale in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea (and coming soon to India)

  • Johan

    yay! In for 1 :)

    • RitishOemraw

      What is shipping time?

      • Brayden Reesor

        1-2 days. And I bought 2 day shipping ;)

        • RitishOemraw

Got someone to order it for me, says it will ship 5 Nov.
Ordered the white 32gb version, which did you order?
yours also 5 Nov shipping date?

          • Brayden Reesor

16GB Black, and yeah it says Nov. 5th shipping date. But the listing said "1-2 days" so I guess we'll see when it actually ships! I'm just happy I have my order. I can wait patiently now.

          • RitishOemraw

I still have to wait to see if it makes across the atlantic before I get to unbox it. It will still be the Nexus device that I got closest to it's launch date. (Nexus one, 3.5 months after it launched, GNex, 2.4 months, Nex7 3 months, this, less than a month :D)

          • Brayden Reesor

Haha. I managed to pick up the Nexus 4 from T-Mobile the first day they had them, so I had it within like a week! But this time I actually got it from the store so I'm happy!

          • RitishOemraw

One way I should be happy I got it from the US, 400 dollars is like 300 euros (excluding shipping costs)
If I bought it from a European country it would be 400 euro's.
I might have to wait longer, but I'll also have more money for accessories, like a wireless charging orb or the smart cover. I want a white/black/red smartcover but it seems they only have gray and black listed so far (none ins tock atm)

          • //ike

I snagged the same (Canada) ships Nov 8

  • Nicholas Hrycun

    Available in Canada too.

    • dobbsy

Just got home from work and says out of stock for Canada. Were you actually able to purchase earlier?

      • Nicholas Hrycun

Yes, they were all in stock.

        • dobbsy

          Damn.

Thanks for the response. No doubt a bunch of jerks bought multiple copies to put on on Craigslist.

        • dobbsy

Now says ships 3 - 4 weeks for Canada. I just bought a 32gb white.

  • valapsp

    Page monitored told me :D

  • Brayden Reesor

Got mine on the first try :)

    • KathyJN

Me too! A little heart-pounding for a second, until I realized I had to select my payment method.

      • Brayden Reesor

Yeah haha. But it went very smooth. Right through!

  • brkshr

    Got it! N5, 32GB, Black

    • Robert Alex Kibler

Congratulations! I wish I had the money right now. :( I'll be waiting until December when my contract with Verizon ends.

      • Adam Truelove

Same here. Gotta wait until my contract ends and I save up some money for 2 of them (for the wife and I).

      • Stephen

im in the same boat right now. the exact same one. Can't wait to only have to spend 70 bucks for unlimited everything instead of ~140 bucks on verizon and no unlimited!

        • Guest

          in france for 20€ we have everything unlimited + 3go of 3G and it's without contract/engagment ... !

          • Ivan Myring

In the UK you can get the same deal for £20

          • Danoman

Sorry guys but you don't have anywhere near as advanced of cell networks as the US. We have HSPA+ and LTE, with 3G as the very minimum. That is the main reason our unlimited plans cost much more.

          • Gerrit

            You're trolling right?

Yeah, must be, nobody can actually say and believe that nonsense.

          • Gavrai

Seriously? We have LTE in the UK? are you apologizing for not knowing whats going on in the rest of the world?

          • Sakuja

            That's cute.
I love how some Americans actually believe this.

          • Alf

            Haha okey advanced?

We have 4G networks in Europe too. But I don't see the point yet.

The costumer in the US have to pay extra (for 4G) because your 3G network in the US is heavily overloaded and unusable?

Here in Europe we have a fully functional 3G network with around 20Mbit/s all the time. Going from 20mbit to 40mbit (4G) is not completely (if at all) nesecarry in Europe atm. 3G here is better than LTE in NYC.

LTE/4G is a hype anywhere were decent 3G networks exist, regardless a dedicated mobile network for internet access (4G) wouldn't hurt.

          • Tarun Pemmaraju

Funny considering what is considered 3G (HSPA+) in the UK is faster than your average LTE speeds.

          • Lars Jeppesen

            Lol that was ignorant.

I pay 40 US dollars for unlimited (truly unlimited) 4G LTE, HSPA+, text, phone, whatever, everything.... here in Europe (Denmark) and I bet you that my 4G speeds are much higher than yours due to better signals..

You must have been joking but forgot the smiley :)

          • Ivan Myring

Yeah, we have both of those. Plus >20mbps on hspa+ is pretty good

          • MindFever

Hahahah...it's funny because you're serious. We have 3g practically everywhere. (Mobitel,Telekom Slovenia) LTE has excellent coverage and speeds. I pay 29€ for unlimited calls/texts (even if I call a person who is on another carrier) and I get 3gb of mobile data every month. And get this,no need to get tied to a contract. I dont know where you get the information, but it's bad :D

        • Garrett Bridges

Where does one spend 70 bucks for unlimited everything as opposed to Verizon? I'm on Verizon, but I really want the N5. :(

          • Stephen

tmobile. They don't have as good service as verizon, but you can't beat 70 for everything

          • Garrett Bridges

I'll have to see if they still suck as bad here as they used to. I had no service in my house or within a mile of it, yet their coverage map said I did, so they did nothing for me. Made me pay cancellation fees and all. I was not very enamored with them from that.

          • DaveTexan

I have the same problem and just made a call to TMO's customer service. My home is in a "very good" zone but my nexus 4 shows 2 blocks on average.(sometimes down to 1 block or 0 for a minute or more...) This is the main reason I'm seriously considering LG G2 over Nexus 5 for the next upgrade(wifi-calling). TMO agreed to send an engineer to take a look...I'll need to see what happens before buying any new phone.. No chance TMO would port wifi-calling to Nexus 4, 5 or iPhones...as far as I was told.

      • Chris

Like everyone, I am too waiting till December when my contract ends. I'll be buying myself a nice little Christmas present :)

        • GentlemanScholar

My contract ends then as well, but I decided to buy now. I'm going to test out T Mobile (via their prepaid) to see if I'm going with T Mobil or AT&T. I'm done with big red however.

          • DaveTexan

AT&T just killed the traditional plan and significantly increased their prices... Also corporate discounts have been reduced, too....For most users who can get TMO coverage, it may be better to get TMO with Nexus 5.

          • GentlemanScholar

When did AT&T reduce corporate discounts? My Verizon corporate discount is 28%. AT&T when I last checked was 26% for my company. T Mobile is only 10%. If TMO has good coverage in my area, that's what I'll keep.

          • DaveTexan

They killed the traditional plan so that now only the more expensive "mobile share" plans are available. In addition, now there is no discount on the "per device fee" added to the plan(which you need to add for each smartphone in the group, for example $45). The corporate discount now only applies to the base rate(based on amount of data like 300MB, 1GB, 2GB...,etc.) Therefore the new plans are significantly more expensive....I was considering a switch but now I think I'm staying with TMO for good.

      • A_Noyd

In your case, I guess money plays into it, but since it is a contract free device, it should not keep anyone from buying it based on contract. (Unless they are switching carriers of course.)

    • DirkBelig

Me, too! Was able to check out in a few minutes this time unlike last year's Nexus 4 debacle.

      • brkshr

Ya, I missed the first round of N4s last year

        • DirkBelig

I was able to get an order in that first day, but then had the two week delay. But I got it sooner than most.

    • Justin Chen

i didn't sign any contract for the last year in ATT beucase i'm waiting for this moment finally i can give ATT the middle finger and. MOVE bitch get out the way ... t mobile here i come =D

    • http://turbofool.com Jarrett Lennon Kaufman

Me too. Had to do it. No impulse control.

      • Bud Lutz

I impulsed the Chromecast........that was a lot easier to accept lol

If I had any phone other than the HTC One i would impulse buy the N5 also.....

        • Thomas

I have the HTC One but I impulse bought the N5... You can all call me retarded now.

          • js

            haha same.

          • Thomas

I love my HTC One but honestly I couldn't help myself getting the new Nexus.

          • Dean Jen

I have a Nexus 4 and a Galaxy S4 and I just placed an order for a white 16GB Nexus 5...so not only am I retarded, I probably have no white matter left in my brain... :P

          • Eduardo Ortiz

I have a nexus 4, galaxy s4, htc one, note 3 and a broken moto x and i still had to buy the nexus 5. This is a money sucking addiction!

          • Dean Jen

Nah, I'll probably sell those on eBay...depending on how good NExus 5 is when I get it. :)

          • Paulo Loch

likewise... spoiled from the speakers.. :-/

          • Thomas

I want to do the same if it is not much better then my HTC One I am going to give it to my uncle for christmas.

    • Frekko

For India it goes for $470 and $536 for 16/32 gb respectively. I hate this thing! Why google why?

      • Duty master

        Maybe import duties?

      • Samvith V Rao

You might want to take that up with our Governrment

        • QW

          East or West, Congress sucks.

      • mavericksid

wtf google, I hate my country now :/ :P

      • Rodrigo Bittencourt

Hey... in Brazil will comming (possibly) for $1000...

        • Régis Knechtel

          Probably :/

      • Rahul Nebhnani

taxes dude , but its still cheap compared to the flagships sold for 40k

      • Atg Atg

And i am still waiting for the 2013 nexus to be released come on google already

      • Vinay N S

funny how google brags about the growth rate in countires like India and Brazil and still they screw us over like this... The N4 would have absoluetly ruined the Samsung sales had it been released on time and at a decent price...

    • jonathan3579

So did I. :D I also opted for the 2 day shipping!

The 16GB Black is already sold out. LOL

    • Frekko

lets see till when the stock lasts this time

    • Frekko

Google, Where is Nexus 10?? Forgot about that or something?

    • A_Noyd

Did you buy it from Google, or did you find a local outlet? I have called around, and no go on local, but I did get the 32GB black one ordered. Says Nov 5 ship date.

    • Jay T

      Same!

    • Cas

      Same here :D

  • bozs13

    BOOM. 32gb Black ORDERED!!!

  • Pascal

    no press event :(

    • Adam Truelove

The hardware isn't exactly mind blowing, just a solid improvement over the N4. No need for a press reveal. These days, only major Android updates need a press event, and 4.4 isn't a big upgrade.

Google isn't about flash and light shows and patting their own backs like Apple. They let the community do the talking.

      • an Astronaut

But Nexus 7 and 4,3 had press event, so what?

      • impulse101

The specs are the highest specs possible for a phone right now, so if that isn't mind blowing what is? And 4.4 is a pretty major update, biggest update since 4.0

        • NinoBr0wn

People always want more more more. I'm quite satisfied with the what's under the hood. Yea it isn't tech from 2018, but it certainly isn't losing any races.

          • DenDen

And this always has to be put in the context that 'IT'S 349 BUCKS UNLOCKED!!!"

        • valapsp

          except the battery. period.

      • TheLastAngel

You are talking about Samsung. Apple has very tasteful events.

        • ari_free

Android has very tasty events. This one is very chocolatey

      • Guest

They really should have had an event. New phone, new version of Android. Come on. Even Google+ had an event just mainly for photos/videos and Hangouts. Smh. Oh well. I got my Nexus 5 coming next week so I don't care lol

        • Tylerstravis

It doesn't need an event. They are already pushing out sales a couple of weeks. It's also a big money saver :)

      • http://www.toysdiva.com Toys Samurai

Google is trying to de-emphasizing Android release. Just compare it to the summer's Google Play event. Plus, they want the general public to buy the Moto X, not the Nexus 5.

  • remister

Got it, ships on 11/5 for me!

    • Mike Rechtien

I ordered a 16GB, and have the same ship date...

  • Jei

    32GB no longer showing :(

    • spearman792

      Does for me

    • bozs13
      • Jei

thanks i figure it was a glitch so i replaced the 16 for 32 in the URL and viola the page was live :)

    • nnyan

Just change the 16gb to 32gb in the URL and it will show up, it did not show up for me the first few refreshes then I manually changed it and nailed my N5/32GB within two minutes. Order is pending.

  • Hudayfah

What about the update for nexus 4?

    • bozs13

      LOL

    • remister

It just released, called Nexus 5 :P

  • Khanh

How is the return process on google play? Is it as easy as Amazon????

      • GentlemanScholar

15 days. They send you an RMA. You drop it in the mail. Similar to Amazon.

  • Abraham

Im not sure if its a single SKU, which would mean its compatible with Sprint.
FUUUUCK! Tempting, tempting! But I dont want to waste money if its not!

        Thanks man!

  • Gustavo

    WHAT ABOUT KITKAT?

  • Stylus_XL

Got mine. Only the black 16GB variant was available on the UK Play Store though.

    • Christofftofferson

Had to replace the 16GB in the web address with 32GB and you get it. Just ordered one.
Prices are really inflated for the UK - like a £100 more!

  • Kiritok

Umm it doesn't say which carrier, should I just do it despite me having Sprint?

    • charles anderson

no it is gsm unless im severely mistaken

      • Eric Jones

        • Kiritok

So should I get it? I'm so confused and I hate it, I want it!!!!!!

          • Eric Jones

I don't know. I'm confused too. Waiting on more info.

          • bigjay517

It says lower on the page that it supports Sprint....
            Under the technical specifications.

          • Kiritok

I meant to reply to you, my bad but thanks I'm getting one!

        • charles anderson

No it won't be available on Amazon and if it was (through 3rd party sellers if their contracts with Amazon somehow allowed that) then it would cost significantly more than $349

Ah well, placed the order for a White 32GB, can't wait :D

          • Justin Chen

i got the 16GB one we got it yay!

  • Geraint Morris

UK shop is showing just the 16Gb Black for me at £299, which at todays rates converts to $480. Nice one Google, unless that's a mistake you can shove it

    • Jim

Not a mistake unfortunately. I too was going to buy until I realised that in the UK we are paying way over the odds!

    • David M Whittley

Lucky you! It's a lot worse here in Sweden. Telephone companies still sell the 16Gb Nexus 4 for up to £450!!!

  • Haskell Gray

    I hate you verizon......

    • vzw

G2. 13MP camera. Larger battery. 4.4 roms soon.

      • Bill Watts

Agreed - I finally pulled the trigger on the G2 this week after accepting VZW is not getting the N5. I couldn't be happier with my decision - Love this phone. I bought it thinking I'd have CM 10.2 loaded before I got home but I've been trying out the phone as is and I'm OK with the LG skin so far. Knock on is addictive so I won't be flashing anything till that's included.

      • Andy Stetson

Exactly. With the N5 having OIS, then AOSP will obviously have support for it. That's the biggest concern with the G2 going AOSP right now (ok, besides knock on/knock off, which is partially in CM).

  • mark

got miiiine !!! 10 € for shipping in eu more tho

    • Lars Jeppesen

    Bumber coming soon :(

  • KingRando

When will it be available on Amazon?

    • xspirits

Probably never, or sold through reseller, a method which I can't recommend though

      • Kesey

        The Google Blog says:

Nexus 5 is available today, unlocked and without a contract, on Google Play in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea (and coming soon to India), starting at $349. Just in the time for the holidays, Nexus 5 will be available soon at the following retailers: Sprint, T-Mobile, Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack.

        • xspirits

          Yep, they made me lie.

Good new though! Amazon (fr) is from far my favorite retailer :D

  • Xellar

What about infos regarding Android 4.4?

  • Miah

    WHITE OR BLACK???!!!!1

    • Daniel DS

Black IMO is cooler and suits a guy better

    • moelsen8

i went white. after having black phones for so many years, i want a change. it looks nice.

      • Miah

but, white is so tempting :(

      • APJ

Tough choice but I went white also. Its usually safer to stay away from the flashy colors but the stormtrooper white/black combo is to legit to pass up

  • GentlemanScholar

    See you later, Verizon.

    • Tylerstravis

Same here... I was holding out hope, but NOPE...

Awesome. So much better than the Galaxy S4 ( http://versus.com/en/google-nexus-5-vs-samsung-galaxy-s4 ) but nearly half the price, with no skin, and direct updates!

    Go Google!

    • undisclosed

      And no touchwiz!!!

    • Doctor Awesome PhD

Verizon opted out still. Cause they hate good things.

    • Woody Mahan

      sprint

    • TimTheK

No VZW. The CDMA is Sprint.

  • Tony Sarju

Blargh, that bumper case is a ripoff and it's not even available yet.

  • oesjmr

It looks like the battery is going to be 2300mAH for both the 16GB and 32GB models.

  • Aaron Jaeger

    • charles anderson

Eating a kit-kat might help ease the wait

  • Vibrunazo

What's taking AP so long for the review??? OMG get on your a game!

  • Brayden Reesor

    So wait.. GSM bands show 850/900/1800/1900 MHz. Aren't those AT&T? Isn't T-Mobile 1700/2100?

    • s44

T-Mo uses AWS (1700/2100) for 3G. That's included (WCDMA Band 4). T-Mo does use 1900 for GSM voice/EDGE, which is what the part you quoted is about.

tldr: works perfectly on US T-Mo

      • Brayden Reesor

        Ah, alright. Thanks!

      • Tomáš Petrík

I just wanted to ask that too, thanks!

  • Ryan Callihan

Any word on when 4.4 is available?

  • ZealotOnAStick

Got mine ordered, 32GB Black. Also ordered a Diztronic TPU case and some Invisible Defender protectors (the last two not from Google Play).

  • Frank Beans

ordered bitches! goodbye verizon and your ridiculous prices and restrictions!

  • Ben Stegner

Does anyone know if this will be available on Sprint, as in an upgrade? Or do you have to buy it from Play and activate it on Sprint?

  • Guest

    Had to be posted.

    Thanks

  • Shafeeq Zaman

Got it in White 32 GB but I messed up my address. I'm on with customer support trying to fix that but they are experiencing high call volumes. Damn it! Why did I have to mess this up?

  • Mike Todd

Been tough, but AP has always been there for us, with the real shiz since day 1. You guys rock!

  • http://www.anivision.org/ Christopher Bailey (Xcom923)

I wonder if this version will work in Europe too...?

    • Lars Jeppesen

      It does.

  • prick

The only real question I care about - is there OTG or no.
No OTG just makes this useless.

    • Steve Freeman

Who cares? It'll be added soon with custom kernels/ROM's.

      • Cheeseball

He's probably wondering if the USB port DOES support OTG regardless of software.

  • impulse101

Ordered mine and said it was shipping in 1-2 days

It's going to be off-topic a little but about Kitkat being available to all phones (if I understand it right), can I just flash it to my Galaxy S2 with no problem when it's out? Please answer :)

    • gierso

not only if samsung supports and builds the Stock ROM
but then there is the custom ROM comunity that has done wonders with 4.3 in the GS2

  • KChristainsen

Awesome! Now hopefully the price drops by next summer and i'll be all over this. Happy with my GS3 for now.

  • Hiren Vasani

    no Kitkat for Galaxy Nexus????

    • blumpkinator

That phone sucks. internals are way outdated and the physical build quality was junk. I think two years worth of updates to the gnex was quite generous.

      • http://www.modminecraft.com/ Nick Coad

I really loved the build of the Galaxy Nexus, but yes, the phone is pretty old now and they've given it a lot of updates, I'm surprised people are upset that it's not getting 4.4. Be reasonable people.

  • CBNforum

I am sure there were some review units out there under NDA... so get those reviews out now. I just ordered one (N5 32GB Black) and will promptly return my Note 3. Ordering was pretty quick. I will order the bumper by itself to make sure it does not delay my order.

  • Zizu

    When available 4.4 for n4 ??

    • A_Noyd

Within the week, probably a day or two. They already uploaded the source to AOSP.

  • Jeff Moreira

    Got 32gb one.
    So happy :D

So when the Android 4.4 is updated via OTA for nexus devices ?

Thanks for the links! When I tried going there myself it only had the 16GB Black model. Thanks to that link you guys provided I got my hands on a 32GB White one. W00t!

  • DenDen

"This is the first Nexus phone to launch with an absolutely top-of-the-line ARM chip in the Snapdragon 800 – past models have always been just a little behind the curve in that department."

Am I missing something here? What was faster than the Snapdragon S4 Pro when the Nexus 4 came out last November?

    • angel_spain

I think Xiaomi MI2 had same SoC but with newer krait cores, which had faster ram.

    • Jivester

And let us not forget the Nexus 1....first 1.0 ghz phone ever!

      • Gary Wilkinson

        No it wasnt.

        • Jivester

Really...just the first snapdragon processor then...

          • Gary Wilkinson

I believe that was the Toshiba TG01, followed by the HTC HD2.

          • Jivester

Your right...it was still a high end Nexus device where the ones following it had processors that were of an older gen...until now.

          • Gary Wilkinson

It was a lovely device. It forced everybody to step up their game, made my HTC Hero at the time feel instantly old.

          • Jivester

            true dat

    • timrcm

RIght, nothing was significantly faster than the S4 Pro. Hell, the S4 Pro is still top of the line nowadays as far as I'm concerned - it still blows away a lot of the new phones coming out.

    • Shitiz Garg

Yeah but Google's going with the highest option of S800 at 2.3Ghz, N4 had it at 1.5Ghz instead of the max 1.7Ghz possible. I think that's what the article meant.

  • fonix232

"The camera might be taking one for the team, having been dropped down to 8MP from the 13MP sensor LG used in the G2 chassis, but the addition of OIS can give us at least some hope of a better photo experience."

First of all, it is not just the resolution that dropped, but overall image quality. Second, the G2 has OIS built in, so it is no addition. In total, it was a downgrade compared to the big brother, but probably done so to cut corners and make the 350USD price possible.

    • Robb Nunya

Resolution doth not a camera make.

      • fonix232

Please, point out where did I make such a linear conclusion that resolution = quality. As I said - it is NOT JUST lower in resolution, BUT the image quality hinders behind the G2 too.

        • Robb Nunya

And how does it "hinder behind"? Both have the same sensor & same f-stop. And that means that the smaller pixels should actually come out better.

Since you seem to be a n00b at this, I've included the following to help you out:
          http://www.digitaltrends.com/photography/image-sensor-size-matters/

          • fonix232

And you seem to be completely ignorant of the test shots made with the N5. Just look it up, and compare them. The G2 on paper might have a worse camera, yet takes better pictures as a final result.

Also you apparently you are unable to differentiate between SENSOR and IMAGE quality. I am talking about the final result here, the image you can open in the gallery, upload it, etc. You can have the world's most wonderful sensor, if the final result is crap, your camera is crap, unusable for the end-user. Good image quality is not just all about the sensor, but optics, position of the camera, quality of the used materials (e.g. the protective window over the sensor), camera drivers, software implementation, and I could go on, not even mentioning post processing.

Thanks for the material, it is only something I've read in at least a dozen variations. One more to add, but really, thanks. /sarcasm

          • Robb Nunya

            Read it again.

I've taken a look at the test shots, and frankly, they're at least as good as the test shots that I've seen on the G2. I have yet to see a side by side comparison, but the Nexus seems to fare (slightly) better against the iPhone and Galaxy phones than the G2.

No matter how much you want to justify your G2 love, but the Nexus 5 camera simply does not suck.

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-6AszlQIIs

          • fonix232

And I've taken test shots myself, and compared it LIVE with a G2 (both devices uploaded images to my Dropbox, so no, the screen cannot be a factor). The Nexus 5 has visibly more noise, the edge details are worse, and I could go on further.

The pictures were taken at the same place, same lighting conditions, and I went through both phones' camera options, all of them. So yes, I think I have the right to say that the different sensor on the Nexus 5 did nothing good to the end result, no matter what your papers say.

          • Robb Nunya

Maybe you're just a shitty photographer. I'll be getting my N5 in a week or so (Thanks Sprint :p), for a work phone, so I'll be able to see for myself. The guy in the showdown showed great pics. You didn't. Hmmm... I think I'll go with the guy who seems to know what he's talking about over you. You don't really seem to understand cameras very well. You lost me at "crap camera." Even if the camera is a small step down, it's hardly crap. But you stated something stupid, and now you're committed. It's OK to admit you're wrong, ya know.

          • fonix232

And you again misinterpret everything I say. Plus I never stated it was "crap" - it is just worse than the G2, that was all I said.
The quality of the photos taken depend on a lot of factors, but as I have been doing it for a few years, using various types of cameras, from cheap point-and-shoot through a half-century old analogous camera to my current DSLR (nothing really awesome, "just" a simple EOS 20D), I think I can filter out the possibility of bad photographer. Just for comparison I have taken photos in all mode, to see if it was a software screw-up or something else - and it is not. The problems are there on every image, no matter the mode, camera app, settings. The G2's quality is way over the N5's, and that's what I've been stating for the past few comments. But apparently all you read into it was me saying that the camera sucks.

So no, I'll say it again. The camera DOES NOT suck compared to the price of the phone. But it is not stellar in any way either - a slight upgrade to the N4, but visibly cheaper than the one used in the G2. And even that camera won't get near the shots taken by some more photo-targeting phones (looking at Sony right now). Final verdict - usable, but if I had any better options, I'd go with that.

  • Jahfry

Waited waaaaay too long to upgrade but finally feel it was worth it. I just went from a gen 1 Galaxy S to a 32GB N5. Time to take my cold meds and sleep.

    • moelsen8

      whoa.

    • Drew M

Years worth of pent-up new-phone-anticipation...your mind's going to get blown when you boot that up.

      • Jahfry

I get to use my wife's Skyrocket (used up my upgrade for it when her phone died) with 4.1 fairly regularly :) And her Nexus 7 on occasion. I'll survive. Happily. For a change lol.

  • Nachiketa

Now waiting for your giveaway of nexus 5 ;D

  • Shadab
  • JJ

I'm amazed the Play Store hasn't crashed yet. We'll see how long it takes them to either crash or run out of stock. Just glad I got mine. Since I only pay $45/mo for unlimited everything* through StraighTalk, I don't mind shelling out $400/yr for a new phone.

*Yes I know they throttle data after a couple of GBs.

    • https://twitter.com/futureuxer Christophe Blythe

Already out of stock on all but the White 32GB.

  • DenDen

As a Nexus 4 owner is there any point in me upgrading to the N5 at the moment? Somehow I feel like there isn't and might wait for Nexus 6 (or whatever its going to be called when it comes out) and catch onto Android 5.1

    • Robb Nunya

      Processor. Camera. Screen resolution. Battery.

      Nah, no reason whatsoever.

      • DenDen

        1) Every app runs buttersmooth on the N4 2) For Instagram and FB the N4 camera is more than good 3) Resolution is good enough that you can't see pixels 4) fair enough.. :D

        • Brandito

If you already know the answer, why ask the question?

          • DenDen

To make a point and see if anyone can come up with an opposing argument that can sway me? Like a....... discussion?

        • Robb Nunya

I own the Evo 4G LTE. Beautiful phone. Perfectly happy with the screen... Until I put it up next to my 2013 Nexus 7... So my advice is never to hold your phone up next to a 5... :D

          • DenDen

It's only going to be .3 inches larger, resolution-wise held from arms-length (and even closer) I shouldn't be able to tell the N5 has a higher resolution.

          • Robb Nunya

Like I said, just don't compare the two side by side. I also looked at my bosses HTC One... my poor little phone started to look a little ragged around the edges (screen-wise)

      • ST

If they would come out and say that the microphone was better and could now let you take concert videos that weren't a garbled mess of distortion like on the N4, I'd have given them my money by now.

        • Robb Nunya

Dude, if you're using a phone to take concert videos, you're doing it wrong. :D

  • raunak chopra

Damn for the first time .. N5 page is live in India also ..

  • Rohit Raghunath

Its live in India. Plus the official blog post says "coming soon to India". Holy Shit.

  • Todd Zullinger

It seems odd that it's so hard to confirm the SIM size. From the service manual leak, I'm pretty sure it's a micro SIM, but I haven't seen that on any of the official documents yet. Am I missing somewhere obvious that covers this?

    • yankeesusa

The website clearly states "micro sim". go to the play store

  • David Marion

Suddenly got busy at work right when it came online... Oh well.
I'd rather have the bumper case at the same time as I get the phone.

I might wait until Sprint starts selling it. I will take up the contract discount even if that means I will be stuck to them for 2 more years. At least its affordable and here in Los Angeles we got LTE :)

  • Robb Nunya

1 small disagreement: Storage should be 32/64 at this point, IMHO.

    • hellerox

At these prices, and compared to "similar" phones I think 16/32 is ok

      • Robb Nunya

Not the point. The point is, 16GB is pretty damn low when you don't have an option to add more.

      • CrookedKnight

It's true that compared to the market, it's about average. The market for storage *sucks*, though. There's no excuse for a flagship phone to top out at 32GB.

  • RockCityGeek

    Out of inventory...

  • quasibaka

Does this have panel self-refresh ? That combined with the envelope tracker tech would make battery great .

PS : It's very cruel of you guys to put the "coming soon to India" thing . We are probably going to get it in 2Q2014 with the price equivalent of $550+ :(

I take it these are a no-go on VZW?

  • http://www.toysdiva.com Toys Samurai

Looking at the spec, we get: CDMA Band 0/10, LTE Band 4. Sprint's CDMA bands are the same as Verizon's, and Verizon is deploying Band 4 LTE in NYC. Does it mean if I have an activated Verizon SIM, and my neighborhood has Band 4 LTE from Verizon, I can just pop it in and use the Nexus 5?

    • MMO

Exactly the same question for me :(((

      • http://www.toysdiva.com Toys Samurai

You know, if Google just drops in Band 13, regardless of whether Verizon offers the phone or not, the two of us will be happily giving out 400 bucks to Google today!

  • sunil
