My Xperia Pro is about to be recovered after two months thanks to avast! Anti Theft :D

I recommend everyone to get a security app!

    • atlouiedog

Neat. Got a story to go along with that? At 2 months it sounds like there's at least something to it.

      • Leonardo Rojas

        It's a rather tricky story.
I'm running out of time to finish my work today so just I quickly managed to leave that message as soon as the police officers confirmed they captured the thief and he is going to give back the device without more legal processes. But... here's my try...

It was my brother who (forgot it) lost it when he was traveling. The bus driver found it but hid it when my brother asked him. We received the "SIM card change alert" from Avast and got the new number from the SIM inserted, with it we MANAGED (cause it's not easy) to get the personal data of the number and got to know it was the sister of the bus driver who in that moment had it.

As it was in a small town, it resulted my brother knew the father of this girl, sister of the bus driver... Then we had to gather more information to catch him or her with the device on hands as we don't wanted to start the regular prosecution process which is long, costly and innefective... So did it and got him with the device.

All of this took almost 2 months. It's not easy to find helpful police officers, most of them coulnd't care less about your case and send you to the prosecution office.
Thankfully one helpful police officer was flirtling with a girl friend of my brother, and this girl helped to ask the police officer to help us! Even the sherif joined in xD I'm thinking that girl must be hot! or, oh. Well.

As you see, is not easy if not helpful police officers are available, and there were some particular cases that helped. But without the "SIM card change alert" from avast we would have never managed to get to know who had the device to start off.

Get avast! Anti Virus from the Play Store n.n You can uninstall it after Anti Theft is installed so you have the app hidden and without the thief knowing. The Remote Commands are very useful for several things, too (like forwarding missed calls alerts when you leave your phone at home and go out with another one).

... Alright, this was good, and worked cause the thief lacked knowledge about Android, if this was a hacker the Anti Theft might have been wiped by flashing a new ROM, cause I never managed to send the "Lock" phone command to prevent changes to the system by disabling USB Debugging, installation from unknown sources, etc Although I really don't know if this is enough to stop anyone from flashing a new ROM. My device used Ginberbeard, too. This version of Android is a bit more difficult to work with hacks, isn't it?.

I have more to say about Avast, as it DOES have weak points. And I think I can count some 10 weak points at least (The AV is easily wiped out by a Hard Reset leaving the "Locked apps" unlocked, for example).
They maybe exist because of hardware or sofware limitations, but I'll be reporting each to the avast support as soon as I have time.

I've written too much, again. If you want to know more about my findings by experience about this security software you can contact me starsky182@gmail.com I can help you avoid several mistakes I did.

        • My name is….

Naaaah, id rather buy a new phone.
Especially if it was all about a 2 years old phone.

          • Leonardo Rojas

It was like new, and handled everything from office to media, and from productivity to gaming perfectly fine n.n

I would have forgotten about it if it was totally lost, but I still had a chance. And now I have it back n.n

But, I ddin't wait for it... i got a Razr i and now I have a Xperia ZL... next I think I'll get the Z Ultra...

You can be sorry if you don't protect your belongings.

Hi Leonardo! Thank you for your comment and of course for recommending avast! Mobile Security. We wanted to follow you on Twitter, please let us know of you use it! Thanks again

      • Leonardo Rojas

I'd say you're welcome but I don't know... Maybe you owe me a chance to tell you some really important things about your apps. There are some horrible weaknesses, and lots of room for improvement. This is not the first time I talk about avast Anti Theft. May I speak with the one in charge?
