Today's the day that Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag launches for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so you know what that means - it's time to hit up the Play Store to download the companion app. Ubisoft's offering turns your Android tablet into a virtual quartermaster. It provides quick access to the world map, tracks your progress, keeps tabs on communications, and more.

With the companion app, gamers will have less reason to ever pause the action, as many of the secondary tasks have been delegated to the touch screen. It displays mission objectives, lets users set waypoints, and makes it easier to search around the map. Committed fans can even browse through all of the Animus Database entries unlocked in the main game. Users can also interact with the game while they're not playing, using the app to interact with Uplay friends.

You're obviously going to need a copy of Assassin's Creed IV to take advantage of this functionality, but the app costs you nothing to download. Get it below.

  • Mehmet Fatih

Why galaxy s2 isn't compatible with it..

    • darqsyde

      Same here... gs2 not compatible

      • Andy Stetson

um, this is why, it is the second sentance in the description on Google Play.

"Turn your tablet device into a second screen that provides you with features that further immerse you into this Caribbean world."

        • marijo4ever

Not true, works on my Samsung Galaxy S3 ;)

          • Andy Stetson

Right, that comment was made when the app was only available for tablets. Further down, I posted that it is now compatible with phones.

          • darqsyde

which why you should keep your snarky comments to yourself...

  • Samuel Hart

This is.... actually pretty cool. Integrated app done right!

    • Hoëk

Playstore simply notified me that this app isn't compatible with my SONY XPERIA Z ULTRA!!! I was so happy with my new SONY PS4... Stupid me.

  • Kineri

To folks complaining about compatibility: It's probably compatible with tablets only

    • Amer Khaznadar

Yep. The second phrase in the description: "Turn your tablet device into a second screen that provides you with features that further immerse you into this Caribbean world."

      • Loex

incompatible with my Asus Transformer (this is a tablet) i dont know why its incompatible

    • Andrew Cooper

it says my samsung galaxy note 10.1 isn't compatible and its a tablet

    • Ahrima

Does not work with a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, either.

    • Timothy Anderson

It is not compatible with any of my tablets.... I have 3 different tablets including a Nexus 7.

  • FamousStars

Does it work on the iPhone 5?

    • Shane Saiyan

No. It only works on tablets.

      • Ryan ‘Ryman’ Clark

That's a very stupid development move... Tablets are too cumbersome at the moment and nearly everyone has a smartphone of some type these days... Why the hell wouldn't they support those instead.

  • floogly

I'm a little disappointed that it's not compatible with my Galaxy Tab 3. Samsung is lagging it on the update to 4.2.3 so unrooted galaxy tab users have to wait and suffer.

    • cheeseman

What version do you have? and do we know what version this app even works on

      • floogly

I have the highest i can officialy get with 4.1.2, and in the google play store it says it needs 4.2.3 or later.

        • cheeseman

Samsung needs to pull its finger out and use the latest android or what is the point in buying anything android

  • Royalphilly

if it was tablet only then how come it says not compatible with a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1

    • Amer Khaznadar

Because "compatible with tablets only" does not equal "compatible with all tablets". And, judging from the reviews, it seems that's not the only thing Ubisoft need to sort out.

  • samuel

It doesnt work on samsung galaxy note 2 either

  • Lewis

Doesn't work on samsung tab 2 10.1 jellybean, this app is practically obsolete. Android is heading the same way if samsung dont pull thier shit together. How isn't this app available on smartphones? I thought that was the whole reason smartglass was created for, to interact with a smart device.

  • Reapher

well in the email i got it said "keep up with assassins creed IV black flag and captain keenways mighty fleet, wherever you are, with the MOBILE companion APP" so with one of the latest mobiles i didnt think there would be a uncompatible thing then =

  • Ahrima

Not compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, either. This is most definitely a tablet.

  • floogly

I've got some good news for all of you. I've got an Android Emulator and the app works on it. So if you don't mind running an emulator on your computer while your're playing, this option will work.

    • possom

where can I get it? I don't have the money to upgrade.

    • ace

dude can you give the name of the emulator?

  • Rick de Vries

Asus Infinity Tab not supported either? :/

  • riley

    not compatible with vizio tablet

  • anonymous

Is it working for a kindle fire?

  • Azreal

Love the idea, but suck that its incompatible with my tablet (Galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition)
Would really like to get the app before i finish the game

  • pinkpaddle

Is this a joke??? Not compatible with Galaxy Note 10.1! This is disappointing. Won' t buy a fu..... ipad just to play AC properly. I'd rather sell the hole game on ebay! Really angry!

    • Ezio

My brand new Samsung tab 3 is apparently not compatible.

  • Nanrhor

I use it on my Galaxy S2. Google for the apk and obb file of the game and install it manualy. On the S2 the screen size is very small but fits for me. Should work for other phones/tablets as well.

  • Sytse vdH

yeah Samsung Galaxy Tab3 10.1 is not compatible with the app.. :/

  • Burner

I have 2 major android devices and it is incompatible with both.
    TOSHIBA AT300SE tabletSamsung GT-I9300

Ubisoft must fix that. Nowadays people can make applications that are compatible with 90% of all android devices on a 1000 USD budget. Ubisoft must be better than that.

    • Timothy Anderson

Incompatible with all 4 of my devices, including my Nexus 7. This stinks!! What is it compatible with and why? What kind of graphics is it looking for?

  • http://www.nullinvoidinc.com/ Mike Roemelen

sounds like you all need a Wii U, all of this is available on the Wii U gamepad already

  • Andres Camacho

What about Windows? My surface pro wants apps too. !!!

  • Popo

Not working on my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. What's going on here? I'm used to all sorts of crap when Ubisoft is involved but this beats everything.

  • Acidburn

Its not compatible with HP Slate 8 Pro :(

  • Andy Stetson

If anyone is paying attention to this story, it is compatible with a LOT more devices now, to include Android Phones and the iPhone 5.
