Well, here it is, official and direct from Google's own image server (here's a link, though it may go down). Feast your eyes.

We found this minutes after a link to the Play Store listing for the Nexus 5 inadvertently appeared on a Play Store device splash. We see a new camera icon, a new phone icon (as suspected), and if you look closely, a new Gmail icon, too. Neat.

    I can has!?

  • Plazmic Flame

    My gawd...

    • MistiXF

Can't agree... Reminds me way too much of N4. And pretty much about 80% of current phones, to be honest.
Remember when there was more to a phone than just the OS and its hardware? I do...
Not hating, just stating the obvious.

      • shonangreg

What do you want? Physical bells and whistles? A hexagonal body? Nipples you can squeeze? A phone that is 80% the same as current phones, but works great and costs less is what most people in the world want. Even most geeks/otakus would go for such.

        • Paweł Gładysz

          Nipples sound good ;)

Remember how sturdy yet phisically appealing and long lasting first nexus was?
It is hard to trace those aristocratic genes in here ;)

Still, I'm planning to buy it but not because of design and overall appearance.

        • Sergio

They could reduce upper & lower bezels about half the size and design it with front speakers

        • hot_spare

Wrong with the cost part. it costs less just in a few countries where google sell it directly through Play store. That won't be more than 20. Rest all 257 countries pay the same price like all other regular phones. When I bought N4, I spend more than $500 for it. About same for all other phones in it's range.

          • shonangreg

The N4 was prohibitively expensive when it was available in Japan too, but this was due to a middleman doing the importing and driving up the price, from what I understand. Google could expand availability on the same, near at-cost pricing system to more markets. Japan could certainly go for such, though the carrier market as it exists now still makes this a difficult proposition.

      • saltyzip

You're actually paying it a compliment, as the N4 in my opinion is a sexy silicon beast. It has actually made me think about LG in a different light too, very much a favourable one.

Phones aren't going to come in that many different shapes until the screen moves beyond the boring rectangle dimensions and starts to wrap around the sides.

I agree there is nothing that stands out about the look of the phone that says buy me from a casual observer. If you lined all the latest smartphones in a row, and got a bunch of grannies who new nothing about phones to pick which one appealed to them the most (visual and build quality perspective), I doubt any would pick this as their choice.

However if the N4 is anything to go by, this will be another diamond in the rough.

        • http://www.toysdiva.com Toys Samurai

Well, I think Google is just re-affirm what it always says -- the Nexus phone is a development device. If you want a consumer oriented Google smartphone, you already get one: it's called Moto X.

          • saltyzip

It may have started out that way, but my N4 is not constrained or limited in anyway to warrent such a development categorisation. The N4 with its glass back was plauded for its build construction. The Nexus range is now very much focused on the retail consumer, just as its bigger sibling the nexus 7. It is unlikely their will be TV adverts for it, but that keeps it exclusive and therefore cool and understated for those in the know.

      • http://www.geordienorman.com/ George Byers

Go to Samsung if you want useless gimmicks mate...

        • hot_spare

Well, atleast galaxy phones don't run out of battery in the middle of day even with all the bloats and gimmicks loaded. Proven fact, as I use it myself.

Let's not talk about it's camera, shall we??

          • http://mwinter.in/ Yan Gabriel Minário

Say it for my Galaxy Nexus.
Oh god, I think I created a paradox here...

          • hot_spare

lol..Galaxy-Nexus... we have a conflict here!

But truth be told, Nexus series is notorious for bad battery life. All "in-depth" reviews have proven that. Forget reviews, I am myself suffering every single day.

      • ginobili

It's funny that you made a really valid point and people instead attacking you to go to buy samsung stuff or that you want nipples that you can squeeze.

I agree with you that looks like isn't worth the upgrade for the N4, but for all folks who are still in s2 or some older phones will be a great deal.

        • MistiXF

Oh well, I'd lie if I said I didn't expect it. I think it's awesome that Android has such a fan base, but it's also sad that some of the people who commented my entry were too stubborn to understand what I was trying to say. I should have put my thoughts in different words, I guess...
Anyway, thanks for being reasonable :)

      • Joshua

        >Remember when there was more to a phone than just the OS and its hardware? I do...

No, honestly I don't. A phone is, in a very literal sense, nothing more than a piece of hardware running an operating system of some sort, whether it's more advanced or less. I couldn't even begin to guess what else you're looking for. I'm not saying this sarcastically or derogatorily; if you can actually name some (nontrivial) things, I'll be happy to listen.

        >And pretty much about 80% of current phones, to be honest.

Again, what are you expecting? Pick any smartphone and it'll either be a rectangular slab with straight sides or a rectangular slab with slightly curved sides. That it looks like things that are inherently similar, form-wise, is truly unsurprising. The point of Nexus devices isn't to set a new level of striking design, it's to appeal to a large crowd of buyers at a low price point. You can't expect a radical new design when the primary concerns basically act oppositely to that desire.

        >Reminds me way too much of N4.

Of all things, this is the least surprising. It's a Nexus. The Nexus line has a current set of design characteristics. This phone, therefore, falls in line with those characteristics. I can't see how that's a bad thing, especially considering the N4 was a rather attractive device.

        • hot_spare

"The Nexus line has a current set of design characteristics. This phone, therefore, falls in line with those characteristics."

-- Most people slant iPhone or Galaxy series with the same logic that they look same every year. Why do you think Nexus should be given a pass for looking same?

          • Joshua

Simply because I'm not one of those people, so I don't make those complaints. I don't really care when iterations of the same device share a common design language.

    • VBM

      Best response. Bar none.

    • Plazmic Flame

That would be pretty nuts and an awesome start to the weekend! Alas, I think all the KitKat easter eggs on twitter have a strong indication to October 28 as people have pointed out.

    • Derek Duncan

was Oct. 18 a rumored date?

      • deltatux

No it wasn't, rumours states October 28, but this sounds more like 18th instead. I know it's very unlikely, but I think everyone will go insane if it launches/releases tomorrow lol.

        • Derek Duncan

something's happening. Now they COMPLETELY removed the Nexus 4

          • deltatux

they still list the Nexus 4 up here in Canada, but like I said, one of the carriers up here already have promotional images of the Nexus 5 already, so I think it's really soon.

I hadn't noticed in any of the leaks before that what used to be the status bar extends past the Google Search bar uninterrupted. Google Experience must be pretty serious if it's doing that. Surely the Search bar must still be a removable widget though? Or it'll be a toggle on/off in the new launcher.

    • Phantom

As far as i can tell, that just the wallpaper and the google search bar is not tied to the status bar

      • Glenn

On a second look, you may be right there. Would have been designed on purpose though, knowing the status bar is transparent. Gives it a nice complete look.

    • George

      Maybe a wallpaper illusion?

  • Gsizzle

    F!cking Beautiful.

  • EH101

Still not a fan of the white wifi/signal/battery/clock, but I really like the transparent nav and notification bars. That was a very good move.

    • Plazmic Flame

I agree. I feel like the Blue-tint to the notification bar icons and throughout the system menu became the "standard" of Android. Would be nice if there were a simple option to change it back if desired.

      • EH101

In all honesty, it doesn't matter that much to me. Someone will offer a custom rom with the ics blue and I never stay on stock roms. Win-win lol

        • Phantom

Well, i think they changed it to black so it doesnt mess up with the wallpapers now that they are semi transparent (you can still see the the notification and action bar are a little darker) because most of the people doesnt have a white wallpaper.

          Just a guess.

    • wade_county

Not sure I agree with sooo ugly. But yea, the Nexus 4 is still the nicest looking Nexus.

      • Tony

I always thought the nexus 4 was a bit boxy.. The GN beat it for looks.

  • Gsizzle

Man I honestly don't think people give LG enough credit when it comes to smartphones. They are bringing out some good looking devices that make there fellow Korean Rival bow down in shame.

    • Plazmic Flame

Somewhat agree... LG only started looking good to me when they made the Nexus 4... anything before that wasn't all that great... IMO...

      • Logan Butler

LG got in the smartphone game a little too late, so they've been trying to catch up.

        • Hugo Pinto

LG did design the phone that Apple ripped off... soooo.
But of course I agree almost all their phones are rubbish.

      • Gsizzle

I am sure the Google team had some input in the design, but still awesome job nevertheless.

        • BrianLipp

the Nexus phones are my favorite phones from the different manufacturers, probably because Google has a lot of input, particularly Samsung. The GNex was plastic, but it had a textured back so it felt better than their beloved glossy plastic. And the Nexus 10 rubberized back makes it great to hold, and again is better than their glossy plastic they just love to continue using.

as for Asus, i actually liked when they used metal, but their soft touch rubbery plastic backs are still pretty good on the Nexus 7s

          • Joshua

The back of the G Nex is something I wish Samsung had chosen to incorporate into the designs of their other devices.

          • Vincent Marino

I love my GNex so much...I'm almost sad to upgrade to a Nexus 5.

          • crackinthewall

The S II also had a textured back. If Samsung were tapped for the Nexus 4, you better expect the same hyperglaze treatment. The Nexus 10 was another ID that was all Google unlike their previous Nexus phones.

        • psychoace

          The G2 looks awesome

        • Chris

Too bad Google won't give them pointers about their UI. I honestly think it's horrific and buggy at times.

          • NinoBr0wn

Don't really think they have any concern, nor would LG feel necessary to do things any other way than their own.

      • Allen_Davis

There was a time where I could argue this:
Dual screens (front touch), full QWERTY, stereo speakers

        • Justin Swanson

I had that phone... I loved it...

          • Allen_Davis

A friend of mine had his last over 5 years with it (Just gave it up for an S4) and even had an extended battery on the thing that stuck out like a Pureview camera

    • Michelle Klein-Hass

I love my Optimus L9. It's like a mini-tablet. It does not feel like an econo-phone.

      • psychoace

That 4gb's of storage feels like an econo-phone to me. It's the main reason I'm buying the Nexus 5.

    • TylerChappell

People don't give LG enough credit because all they have ever done is try to copy Samsung almost to a T. If it wasn't for the Nexus devices, LG wouldn't have a leg to stand on for differentiation. And they also had a notoriously bad track record of updating phones, even worse than HTC's bad track record. I see no reason the LG Lucid shouldn't have Jelly Bean by now just because it was a midrange handset when it came out. It took them 8 or so months just to get ICS on it, and the phone was released about 5 months after ICS came out.
Only since the Nexus 4 has LG tried to turn things around. And you gotta give them credit at least for that, they have done a pretty good job with their privilege of being a Nexus manufacturer.

      • Gsizzle

Tyler I agree with you to an extent, but I am strictly talking about the physical beauty of the hardware of there smartphones not Software updates.

    • NinoBr0wn

Good for them too. I've grown tired of the Samsung flood and every Android blog being invaded by Note clansmen.

  • BrandonP

    • eddit13

Exactly. Oh please make it sound as great as it looks.

    • whispy_snippet

So true. My Gnex sounds like a mouse with a cold.

      • Clayton Ginther

I wasnt aware that was the common consensus for the Gnex.. mine seems loud and clear

        • whispy_snippet

We're talking about the external speaker, not the earpiece speaker.

    • PhineasJW

Well, it has dual-firing bottom speakers (presumably stereo), so it's gotta sound 2000% better than the Nexus 4 back speaker.

      • BrandonP

I ask this because I don't know...has it been announced or leaked that it has dual speakers? Because people think the G2 and iPhone have dual speakers because, well, there are two speaker grills. But as we know one is a speaker and one is a microphone

        • BrandonP

And BTW I have the G2 and the speaker SUCKS. So I'm hoping LG didn't put the same speaker in the Nexus

        • Crispin Swickard
          • BrandonP

Referencing the first still....G2 has two speaker grills, too. But one is a speaker and one is a mic. That's what I'm worried about! Hopefully these are, infact, dual speakers

          • Crispin Swickard

Ah, I wasn't aware the G2 was like that, good point. It would be really nice if it was stereo, but I think it would hard not to best the GNex speaker I am dealing with now. :D

          • BrandonP

lol still on the Gnex!? I commend you for your patience. .

          • Crispin Swickard

I have had every phone always for 2 years before I get a new one. I got the GNex before is was sold officially in the US, so I had to get my money worth out of it. lol

With 4.3 it runs better than ever, and this long in with my Cliq I used before it I was extremely frustrated. Not to say I don't think I would be extremely happy with the extra horsepower of the N5 I have been drooling over since specs, and things started flowing.

          • BrandonP

You will be blown away by some of the new tech in these phones though. Camera quality is my main example

          • Crispin Swickard

It sure seems from what google themselves indicated previously, and there mistake from today that the camera will be hugely better. Also bluetooth LE, and all that my GNex isn't capable of is a great reason for upgrade as well. Much has been introduced since then.

        • PhineasJW

Yes, leaked shots show dual bottom speakers. We'll get the confirmation soon.

          • BrandonP

They show dual speaker grills. Not dual speakers. Don't be surprised if one is a speaker and one is a mic...I do hope I'm wrong btw

          • PhineasJW

            Correct, dual speaker grills.

And, yes, I would be SHOCKED if a mic required a full (speaker) grill instead of a single hole. There is no precedence for that, nor any reason to believe that's a possibility.

          • Joshua

The iPhone line has had dual grilles for a single speaker and a mic since the 4.

          • BrandonP

Lol don't too shocked. Considering LGs flagship phone, the G2, has exactly that. And so does the iPhone. Just saying it is past possible and it is into probable

          • BrandonP

What? Possibility? Lol i would have bet on it. It was more than possible, it was probable. There are four high end phones just off the top of my head that have two speaker grills yet only have one speaker. The microphone in a speaker grill isn't new, nor is it going anywhere. Case and point...the nexus 5 has exactly that lol and the nexus 5 single speaker suuuuucks BTW. Can't really complain though. It isn't a mainstream device. Still love my droids though :)

          • PhineasJW

            Yes, you were right.

They went with the dual grills for visual symmetry(???), though one was a microphone -- go figure.

The N5 speaker is fairly lousy, though at least it's better than the Nexus 4 back speaker.

Don't understand why they keep cutting corners on the speaker. How much more can a better speaker possibly cost -- a few dollars?

          • BrandonP

Completely agree with you. I understand you have to build a device that stays under a certain price point but I just think people would enjoy a higher quality phone at a slightly higher cost. I am not buying the nexus 5 simply because of the speaker. I have the G2 and the speaker isn't great either. Volume mods helped but once you hear the HTC One... single speaker phones are meeeh

    • http://www.geordienorman.com/ George Byers

      And camera and battery :-P

He probably means that it's probably a hint at Google getting rid of a dedicated messaging app, integrating it fully into Hangouts so people will use it more.

        • Benjamin Morris

Sorta like Microsoft and it's "Microsoft Office" with internet explorer stuff years past?

        • jetx2x

They can't get rid of the messaging app... Google hangouts is proprietary source... And android is open source...They must include a default messaging app which is open source... Same deal with Chrome... Unless they want to make their proprietary apps open sourced there will will always be stock open source counter parts

AOSP browser is not included in stock nexus ROMs since the Galaxy Nexus. However it's included in AOSP ROMs. The same will happen to the Messaging app.

          • Crispin Swickard

The AOSP browser loss is sad. I almost never use it on my GNex, but on the N10 I find myself wanting to be able to use flash content more, and Firefox, and Dolphin support of flash is unreliable at best. It would be great if the internet gave up on flash as its not so much needed anymore, but its still holding onto the past. The AOSP browser is the only reason my N10 is rooted.

      • Benjamin Morris

Yes, I'm aware. But the fact that there is no Messaging icon in sight, only Hangouts, probably means the separate SMS/MMS app is not included (of course still available in AOSP), further indicating KitKat and the Nexus 5 will launch with SMS finally integrated into Hangouts.

        • https://play.google.com/store/search?q=kodiak+211 Google_Is_The_Higgs_Boson

Will this thing switch between text and data, or will it always use data?

          • Benjamin Morris

No idea. I'm sure we'll learn soon enough though.

Though if I had to guess, I'd say it will work similarly to iMessage, that is, SMS with non-Hangouts contacts, Hangouts with the rest.

          • https://play.google.com/store/search?q=kodiak+211 Google_Is_The_Higgs_Boson

I'm not even sure how iMessage works, but I do know Hangouts is like it... Until I use this thing, I'm not sure how much I'll benefit from it... I can barely get people to use Hangouts now to video chat, and message each other...

          • Chris

iMessage is a way of letting the user know that they are texting with another iPhone user. And rather using traditional method of sending the text, it sends over data / WiFi. Also, the green bubbles become blue signifying another iPhone user.

          • Bojan Tomic

I hope it's not using data all the time, 'cause that would be awful. I don't have unlimited data plan in my country. :S

If this is real...hnnngggg...the only things I don't like are the phone icon, the height of the power button (it remains to be seen if it's actually too high or not), and the white notifications. Nothing that can't be changed with a custom ROM though.

I never treat anything as real until it is confirmed. This may as well be confirmation though.

I'm more excited for 4.4 since I'm on Verizon and nexus 7 is the only nexus love I'll get

    • Mort

      • chris125

Once tmo gets better coverage I will. But for now with unlimited LTE Verizon can't be beat

        • Mort

$55/2gb, $70/7gb... AIO is my next carrier, fo sho. Already dumped Verizon for a N4 with Net10, and the lower bill paid off the ETF within months. Just sayin'.

          • Zach Mauch

why not get straight talk for $45/month. It uses AT&T network if you get the right sim and you now get LTE. 2.5gb of data before throttling. Much better deal.

          • David Hart

Or use the T-mobile sim and never get throttled.. I also get about 3.5 MB/s down and 2 MB/s up in a residential area.

          • Zach Mauch

true, but no LTE and worse coverage.

          • David Hart

Yeah coverage is worse, but I had sprint before so I'm pretty happy with T-Mobile.

Also, I do have 4G, you can flash a hybrid modem that has 4G enabled. It's a battery vacuum though.

          • Mort

The $45/2.5gb Straight Talk deal is, of course, better than the $55/2gb AIO plan - but I want that 7gb of unthrottled LTE.

  • HangoutsEnthusiast

You know what would be totally legit? If Google and all the OEMs could realize that they should TOTALLY make the Hangouts app the default, preloaded, native messenger app on ALL Android phones. Like, Google could definitely entice people to actually go onto G+ like that. It would totally kill Skype and FaceTime too and it would be a GREAT way to market Android to regular consumers that would be more impressed by an easy way to communicate with their loved ones. Like, think about it... if EVERYONE you knew that had an Android phone were forced to use Hangouts as their messenger app. WE COULD ALL HAVE HANGOUTS FINALLY!

    • Gnex

Yo dawg, I heard you like Hangouts.

    • CA719

Oh you know Samsung probably has plans for an "S Messenger".

      • Thomas’

You mean ChatOn, their messenger with "over 150 million users"?

    • Adam Meredith

i dont use hangouts at all, go contacts pro is my choice for sms and calls and i dont bother video calling so why should i be forced to use hangouts? i always thought android was about choice

      • EH101

You'll still have choice.... Remember that default sms app api a couple days back? That guarantees you keep choice.

Hangouts would be a major plus for the average consumer if it was the stock messaging app, but I don't that's going to happen.

    • GraveUypo

i would rather have the message app.
i don't want google pushing more crap i don't want (that includes g+) on to me.

  • Crispin Swickard

I think the only thing keeping me from preordering it the minute it goes live is the possibility of a non removable battery that crap scares me if a device should catastrophically freeze. I have had to pull my battery from my GNex a couple times in order to get things moving again, and the alternative of waiting for the battery to discharge is not a fun one.

    • Mason742

It's a non removable battery, I am willing to bet. Is the n7 or n10 battery removable?

      • Crispin Swickard

I can dream can't I? ;) I have had to wait for my battery to die on my N10 once... That's one thing on a tablet, but a phone is a different story. At $350 I will probably get it either way. The GNex will have to stay on the bench if a penalty flag gets thrown in on the new kid.

        • CA719

Dude, devices without a removable battery will ALWAYS reboot with a long press of the power button, they're like wired to do that.

        • Mason742

I'm more interested in the leaked slogan "Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways." Does this mean it has a better camera than expected? The fcc leaked handbook only stated battery, processor, bands, screen size, and form factor. Maybe it will be 8 mega pixels with some crazy features or a MEMScamera, or maybe a bigger sensor or more megapixels, who knows. We can both dream, can't we? ;)

Update: Also they changed the camera icon and made it a lot more accessible from the lock-screen. To everything there is a reason!

          • Fred Fredson

I think this will be the biggest suprise left. Google has something for us. I dream with you!

          • Crispin Swickard

Some of the rumors were 20 megapixel+, but I would assume a safer bet would be 13 like the G2, if not the same sensor of the G2. I have a feeling we will be finding out either way very soon. :)

          • Mason742

Either way, I will still be picking one up for $349. Also people are reporting they've been formally invited to partake in kitkat goodness on October 24th!

    • TY

Hold the power button for 10 seconds to hard reboot. Do you think Google, Apple, and many others are so stupid to oversee this?

      • Crispin Swickard

Trust me. I tried that. Its not always successful.

        • TY

I think it's OK even if it fails sometimes, since your device doesn't freeze that often.

          • Crispin Swickard

Some failure is acceptable, and at this point my reservations are nearly gone since I can't stop drooling every time I see this thing. lol

          • TY

(GNex) In my experience, freezing is rare; and even if it does freeze, the phone will reboot itself in 10 seconds. So yeah, go ahead. I will also be getting Nexus 5. 100%.

        • Claw

It always works. If yours doesn't then you have faulty hardware. The 10-sec reset is a hardware implementation.

        • Claw

L.E: Also, GNex doesn't have that feature, so maybe if it works, it's a software thing. The N4 has it working 100%

          • Crispin Swickard

That's good to hear. If thats the case the only drawback would be not replacing it in general, but the newer batteries are much better at the whole memory thing. Mine still seems to last about the same length of time it always did.

          • Claw

Not to mention the N4 has those 2 screws on the bottom that make replacing the battery VERY easy. Probably the N5 will also feature this.

  • Mastermind

saw the picture and had to go to the bathroom to tug one out. nomsayin'

  • Srichand Yella

Hope they have enough phones for everyone this time around.

  • fonix232

I don't know, I don't really like the new Nexus. For the same price, I can get an LG G2 with a great data+voice package, and that phone does not have the few quirks I have against the N5.

For example, the top headphone port. They got it right with the Nexus 4, why change it again? Also the battery is significantly bigger, with a slightly larger screen, and same hardware. Anyone who says "but KitKat is supposed to optimize battery life", hell yea, but do you think an optimized 2300mAh battery will last longer than a not-so-well optimized 3000mAh?

So I'm probably going with the G2. Basically same hardware, better camera and battery, bigger screen, and better looks (in my opinion). Also option for a lot of pretty awesome features (the learning IR remote for example).

    • TY

Battery: Nexus 5 has envelope tracking (from the leaked manual), the radio energy saving thing first appearing in the Note 3. I would wait for the battery tests before concluding. Whatever, this thing will have better battery life than the GNex, thus I would be happy with it.

Camera: Nexus 5 and G2 seems to have the same sensor size (1/3"). What makes you think G2 has a better camera? Pixel count? Apple chose 8MP for a reason. Balance between pixel size/count. Google seems to be going for the same balance.

Headphone Port: Huh? Both Nexus 4 & 5 have the port on top.

Features: Of course G2 has lots of features... Nexus has a unique strength, though. Top class official (from Google) and unofficial (XDA, etc) software support. If it appeals to you, Nexus is almost the only choice out there.

Price: If you calculate the total cost, Nexus + prepaid plan would be almost always much cheaper than getting a G2 on-contract.

      • Girts Pulenciks

All above plus you don't have crappy optimus UI :)

      • Justin Swanson

"Features: Of course G2 has lots of features... Nexus has a unique
strength, though. Top class official (from Google) and unofficial (XDA,
etc) software support. If it appeals to you, Nexus is almost the only
        choice out there."

This is the reason I most likely see myself only buying a Nexus for at least my next two devices (N5 will be one of those).

Assuming the screen size is exactly 4.95 inches diagonal, the dimensions are about 136.2 x 68.2 x 8.8mm (Excluding the camera bump/buttons). 1 pixel ~= 0.17mm.

    • Zach Mauch

FCC leak put the dimensions at 131.9 mm x 68.2 mm x 8.6mm. Other than 136.2, you are pretty close. Might want to recalculate that one.

      • TY

131.9 seems to be wrong. The bottom bezel would be much smaller.
If you look at the FCC photos with the rulers, the length is nowhere near 132mm.

        • Zach Mauch

so you think it will be 5 mm longer than the nexus 4? That doesn't seem right.

Its possible that is still just there without a visual indicator. Hard to say with so many leaks probably all with different builds. Maybe it also just pops up when scrolling toward the left. We will find out soon enough.

I really like the center earpiece...it looks great.
But I have a question...does this phone not have the curved edges like the nexus 4 has?
It seems to be more in line with the GNEx (minus the curved glass on the nexus)
I hope dust etc won't get into the crease like on my gnex when I get this one :(

  • Charles Sweeney

I was looking forward to leaving HTC for a Nexus device but for my personal taste, on screen buttons kills it for me...I hate losing that screen real estate, even if it's only a half or a 1/3 of an inch. My OCD keeps looking down at those buttons wishing I could have that space for more screen viewing. I say this because I quiet often go into the stores and play the phones on a regular basis, sort of a test drive before I buy, and for some reason the one screen buttons just kills it for me. Now it doesn't take away from the phone itself because I find the phone be quite visually stimulating to say the least and I'm sure KitKat will be a beast on this device and I'm sure this phone will more than likely sell out fast during pre orders and will be out of stock for the first few weeks because of demand for it.

    • saltyzip

For movie watching the on screen buttons disappear of course and the real estate is re-used for visual godlyness, but for browsing and app navigation they remain. Maybe if Gestures were introduced better in Chrome Browser we could switch off the on screen buttons there too.

When I first compared my N4 on the home screen to my wife's HTC One X, the HTC appeared to have the bigger screen when in fact they are the same. I don't think it's a problem for me, keeps the phone clean and of course soft buttons never wear out.

I've only owned one Nexus phone, the LG Nexus 4 and based on my experiences with it and pure Google, nothing else would temp me to switch back to HTC or anyone else for that matter.

  • newsjunkieintl

This "mistake" was a PR leak to shut up the people claiming there will be a re-release of last year's Nexus 4 to take the "low end" pricing and that this year's Nexus 5 would be priced up to $500. This brief "accidental" Google Play posting was clearly Google's way of saying STFU on both ridiculous rumors.

$349 for 16GB Nexus 5 is actually the same price for 16GB as last year's Nexus 4 -- but with 5" 1080p, smaller body, Snapdragon 800, multiple LTE bands, pentaband HSPA+, CDMA, and 8MP OIS camera.

So, if the 16GB is still $349, then the new 32GB will probably be $399?

  • anzensepp1987

Seeing as though leaked log files said something about another 8MP camera, my bet is on, just like in the iPhone 5S, a bigger sensor that lets more light in... Which does make sense, given that the apertures of the Nexus 5 and G2 are identical in size.

I'd say it's the same sensor size as the one used by the G2 but with a lower megapixel count - meaning larger pixels and more light.

        Exactly what I meant... Updated.

I had the Nexus S and then the Galaxy Nexus, I got the Galaxy S4 the day it was launched and I love it! The camera is amazing, the speaker is loud and sounds good, the screen, the health apps, everything is amazing. I haven't rooted it but I've got Apex Launcher to mimic stock android...

But it's not enough, I really want this new Nexus, clean lines, no buttons, the circular earpiece does it for me really, I love the design.

I live in London and when I commute into central every day it makes a change to see someone with a Nexus device, it's happened twice! Everybody else has an S3, S4 or iPhone 4/5.
