Just a few days ago, we saw Google expand the reach of Play Books to New Zealand and a handful of countries across Asia. Continuing its arduous march of international availability, Google today expanded Google Play Music and its All Access service to seven new countries. So, who's been added to the list of those able to jam out with Google's on-demand music streaming service/store? Here's the full list:

  • Czech Republic
  • Finland
  • Hungary
  • Liechtenstein
  • Netherlands
  • Russia
  • Switzerland

If you're in one of the above countries and have been waiting for Google's music service to open up, go listen to some music! Otherwise, keep an eye on Google's international availability page for all its Play services here.

    Canada? Please?

    • deltatux

Like honestly, it seems that everywhere except Canada is getting Google Play Music while Apple has had the iTunes Store in Canada for years ... it's getting ridiculous...

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

        Say thanks to your government.

        • deltatux

Not sure if it's government or CRTC ... which is considered "independent from government" ... which is to blame.

          • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii
          • deltatux

That doesn't explain why just plain old Google Play Music Store isn't available. Like, give us Canadians the choice to just purchase the music, I personally don't have interest in the All Access portion. I understand others do, but we don't even the basic store which is sad...

          • lee jun-hoe

As I understand it from reading an article, Canada has laws requiring any music seller to ensure that a certain percentage of its offerings are Canadian artiste. Which is quite impossible, considering the vast amount of international/US artistes.

What Apple did is they hired Alanis Morissette (and maybe few other Canadian artiste) to re-record a "special" itunes version of all their songs. Thus upping the quota of songs by Canadian artiste in their offerings.

Sorry I can't seem to find the article now.

        • lfeuln

But as was pointed out, Apple's had iTunes here for years. What makes them so special that Google can't launch even the regular music store sans All-Access? Not to mention Rdio, XBox, Slacker and Songza do work in Canada so it's not impossible. I'm sure it's a pain, but it's disappointing that Google doesn't seem to consider us worth said pain.

          • Craig Gosling

I want to know who to direct complaints to?? Who is in charge of blocking this type of service?

          • Mayoo

I've asked to both Google and CRTC once.

Google : We don't have any info.
CRTC : We don't regulate online content.

Yeah, CRTC responded that ... I bet they still think faxes are the future.

          • Mayoo

FYI : I just sent an open letter to my local member of parliament. I encourage all Canadians to do so. Enough with the nonsense, let's get things moving!

          • Chris

For all you know, they've been working on bringing Canada into the fold for months. Don't complain based on uninformed assumptions.

        • Owen Finn

That is sort of the excuse that Google gave for not bringing in Google Voice... except that was proven a lie by the emergence of Fongo.

      • Peter

        Don't forget Germany...

      • Dee Norbert

Same thing here in Romania. We have ITunes music but no Google Play Music.

      • Pierre Gardin

        But you have Magazines...

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

    • Mariano Gori

God it hate the Canadian Government, CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association), and all major content providers (Rogers, Bell, Shawn, Telus). They are the only reason why Play Music, and TV are not available in Canada.

    • nebula

I live in Germany and every country around us has All Access and we still don't have it too...

      • Michał Kumor

Not every country around. Poland also doesn't have it.

    • http://www.microwav3d.com/ Mihir Garikiparithi

Nope. Sorry. You see... it's too cold in canada for google to rollout GPMusic. That's the only explanation.

  • Gordon Lutz

Did Google forget Canada is just above them? WTF!!

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Google didn't. Tell your music labels and government to get their heads of their asses and Play Music, Spotify, etc. will come.

      • lfeuln

If Rdio and XBox Music can lauch in Canada, what's the excuse for Google and Spotify other than just not putting in the effort?

        • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

My guess is the much higher royalties on each play mean that Canada has dropped very low on the priority list of both companies.

  • Mehmet Fatih

    Still no Turkey.. :(

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/author/eric-ravenscraft/ Eric Ravenscraft

Don't worry. Thanksgiving is right around the corner.

      • http://www.aymansanliturk.com/ Ayman Sanliturk

Harsh! But LOL to the respond.

  • gcheval

Looks like the CRTC is too much of a hassle to deal with...

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/author/cody-toombs/ Cody Toombs

Somebody needs to start a campaign like Free The Grapes for music in Canada. I doubt it would do much good, but it might help to inform people to stop blaming companies for ignoring Canada.

    • selonmoi

Myth. The CRTC is not the problem. It's the rightsholders that Google needs to negotiate agreements with.

For some reason, the labels and/or the writers' collectives have decided to make it unusually complex and expensive to do business in Canada.

It's especially galling that the labels' lobbyists spent years blaming lax copyright laws for the lack of digital services in Canada, while being the actual cause of the problem, themselves. Predictably, nothing had changed since more regressive, anti-consumer copyright amendments came in to law.

  • Fidlefadle

Not even an update on Canada yet :(

  • http://www.smsnetwork.org/ Mikael Jakobsson

Open in the findland but not in sweden, even if Swedes can active the all access alredy if man own a Visa Credit card.

    • Ezzy

And early adopting Finns have been able to use Google Play Music since it first launched in the States like 2 years with a beta invite. No official support naturally, but it did work.

      • Mathias Kenting

That's how I use it in Denmark. I used a beta invite and a VPN.

  • scaarg

    No Mexico?

  • Matt

And a new version of Play Music with genre radio. Nice.

  • Peter

and with it comes an update to the play music app to 5.2.1224L.847622

  • Danny Holyoake

  • http://www.parafriv.net/ Para Friv

Can anyone tell me if these countries are doing the free month trial? Thank you very much.

    • André

Yes, they do. Also in Czech Republic if subscribe for All Access in first month, it will cost only 6,5 $.

      • Ezzy

No surprise there, it costs $10,81 in Finland.

        • http://fujibayashi.jp/ Xiatian

$5.25 (USD) in Russia for early adopters, $5.86 for those who apply after Oct 31.

    • Lars Geiger

      Liechtenstein does have it

  • Jsilvermist

OMG... HEY GOOGLE, LOOK NORTH ON YOUR MAP... you are forgetting CANADA!!!@@@@

  • freakism

As usual, a dollar translates into a euro. Oh well, will give All Access a spin.

  • Andreas Brandenborg

    Next up, Denmark? Please?

    • Mikkel Rasmussen

How to use it in Denmark:
      1) Get American IP (one week free at unblock-us is all you need)
      2) With American IP, go to music.google.com from a pc browser and register. You will now have access to Play Music, even without an American IP
      3) If you want All Access, buy it in a browser with your VISA and provide imaginary US address. Worked for me and others I know.
      4) Enjoy Play Music in your browser and on your devices :)

      • Urban Olofsson

I succeeded with 1, 2 and have us visa and us address but where do I buy all access ?

        • Mikkel Rasmussen

It should be somewhere in music.google.com. Or in the play music app on your device.

  • Sebastian Lundgren

    WTF!?! Finland but not Sweden

    • name

Suck it :>. But yeah, it has to be a first.

  • Andrey Nikolskiy

  • Santeri

    Hellyea, Google, I love youuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mauswe

I have Spotify, and all of my friends as well. Do i gain anything by switching?

    • dean

      self respect?

      • mauswe

Lol, i don't use spotify beacuse of peer preassure, it's easy to share playlists and use the social aspect when all of my friends and whatnot have spotify. So my question was if Google Music has anything else to effer that makes up for what im loosing.

  • Carlos

  • Marcell Lévai

I woke up, grabbed my phone, opened the Play Store app and was like WHOA WHOA WUT? This is a big thing, because Google Music all access is the first big streaming service here in Hungary with a decent library (and that isn't tied to any internet/service provider. So... YAY! ^_^

  • Paludal

Sigh, Still No way for Norway..
