Six O'Clock High
I'm a sucker for good atmosphere, and Six O'Clock High has it in spades... or perhaps more appropriately, aces. The gameplay is a lot like Mini Squadron: a 2D playing field with lots of enemy planes to shoot down, rotated 90 degrees from your typical shoot-em-up so that there are plenty of loops and Immelmann turns. This game gives the whole affair a World War One makeover, complete with biplanes and some basic 3D graphics. The huge bosses are especially impressive.
Six O'Clock High is a chaotic new aerial dogfighting game. Take to the skies with super easy and intuitive controls, luscious unique graphics and a thirst for gunpowder! It's all about becoming an aerial ninja by piloting your plane throughout waves of increasingly skilled enemies. The best fighter aces will be sent against you, do you have what it takes to win the day? Earn upgrade points after each wave to spend on 14 different aircraft upgrades. From titanium armour and rockets to eye exams and a full English breakfast. Yes you read that correctly.
GA8: Curse of the Assassin
Tin Man Games is at it again with their RPG/Choose You Own Adventure games, and this one is a sequel to the previous story, An Assassin in Orlandes. You've probably seen these in some of our roundups: they're expensive, but definitely worth it for those who enjoy story-driven games with tabletop RPG elements. Unlike some of the previous Game Books, this one has artwork in full color, and it ain't half bad by fantasy standards.
The official sequel to An Assassin in Orlandes is HERE. Curse of the Assassin is written and designed by S.P. Osborne, author of GA1, and takes you back to the familiar surrounds of Orlandes City where you pick up your life some time after the events in An Assassin in Orlandes. You’ve risen through society after dealing with Eltane and saving the city, capturing the affections of the Duke’s daughter along the way. The mysterious death of friend arouses your suspicions and once again you find yourself at the heart of conspiracy that takes you back to your home village and a meeting with your old adventuring party from your youth.
Excalibur: Knights of the King
If you're looking for an old-school brawler in the vein of Streets of Rage or Altered Beast, Excalibur is happy to oblige. This game mixes the usual dungeon crawler/upgradeable RPG style with more typical action mechanics. The icing on the cake is the multiplayer: Excalibur includes both a standard multiplayer versus mode and a console-style co-op campaign. The 2D sprite graphics are pretty awesome as well. See, developers? You can make 2D games without resorting to the tired 8-bit style.
Excalibur is a side-scrolling action MMORPG set in the realm of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Combining MMORPG and classic beat 'em up features, Excalibur allows players to explore the fabled world of Camelot with their fingertips. Fight in the realm of Avalon and embark on quests to test your mettle. Jump into an adventure to reach the top and save Britain from its demise! Solo adventure, team-up with others in exciting co-op quests, join a guild to seek greater glory, or ascend the ranks in explosive PvP action!
Marble roller games and endless runners go together like... well, I don't actually know what they go like, because I've never seen a combination of the two. But reliable developer BulkyPix has posted Orborun to the Play Store, a game that combines a conventional endless runner with an accelerometer marble games. Sci-fi graphics remind me of the Portal franchise, and the game includes 90 levels across three environments.
Orborun is a 3D run & roll game where your nerves will be put to the test. Tilt your device to make your Orbot run and roll on long & curvy slides, use the power-ups to go faster, tap on the slowdown bar to be more precise. Complete optional challenges and arrive faster to get higher scores and compare them with your friends. Tunnels, vortex and 90-degree turns wait for you. Would you reach the spatio-temporal gate before curling you up into a ball?
Dumb Ways to Die
This game got its start as a viral animated music video, oddly promoting train and subway safety for the municipal transport system in Melbourne, Australia. The mobile game is a bit late to the party, but you'll be able to re-enact some of the adorably gruesome deaths from the "Dumb Ways To Die" song and hopefully prevent them. It's a lot like Wario Ware: a string of very simple mini-games with a twisted sense of humor.
You've seen the video—now the lives of those adorably dumb characters are in your hands. Enjoy 15 hilarious mini-games as you attempt to collect all the charmingly dumb characters for your train station, achieve high scores and unlock the famous music video that started it all. From piranhas and platforms to snakes and level crossings—tap, swipe, and flick to safely escape a wide range of DUMB WAYS TO DIE.
Brave Bit Free
Brave Bit fancies itself a "micro platformer," which is pretty much the same as a regular platformer except that the platforms wrap around vertically to make the stages fit better on a small screen. Move your featureless square around avoiding traps, jumping gaps, and solving puzzles, using the various switches and lights to your advantage. The full game is just a buck, but there's a free version as well if you want to try it out.
Brave Bit is a Challenging Die & Retry Micro Platformer, which would put your skills to the test. You simply need to navigate through the platforms, collect the Orbs one at a time in order to open up the Portal and advance through the levels whilst dodging the various hazardous objects which include Saws, Stompers, Cannons, Falling Spikes, Electric Fences, Machine Guns, Position Sensing Rockets, Spikes, Gears and Much More!!!
Edge of the World
Pirates are better than zombies in just about every way. Better scenery, better music, and best of all, pirates haven't been done to death in every facet of pop culture yet. Edge of the World takes the high seas theme and applies it to shuffleboard, with surprisingly fun results: you've got to fling your ship towards the flat edge of the planet, getting the most points without falling off. The sound effects as the various themed pirates fall off the edge should elicit a few chuckles.
The 1st and only Award Winning ship shuffle board game in the world! Take turns launching your ships to the Edge of the World! Challenge your friends to a local or online game, and see who can score the most points and win! And best of all, it's free!
• Single Player, Pass and Play, & Multiplayer come free with the game!
• Addictive online turn based gameplay
• Invite friends to a match by username or through Facebook
• Five unique captains & ships to choose from
• Captains come with their own special powers and abilities
• Tons of skins to choose from to make sure you stand out online
• Unlock custom avatars
• Stunning HD graphics
Yup, this is a straight-up clone of Fruit Ninja. Except that instead of slicing apples and pears, you're decapitating other ninjas. If you thought the original was lacking in over-the-top cartoon violence, the more adult knock-off will indulge your psychopathic tendencies while strangely keeping the chibi look. Be prepared for no small amount of in-app purchases in this free-to-play game. There's a hibachi-themed alternative if you'd like something a little more wholesome.
The most ninja action possible........without having to go to the trouble of actually being a ninja. Swipe your finger across the screen to hack and slash your enemies while dodging shurikens, ditching Geisha, and ducking bad Sushi! Slice and dice through waves and waves of enemies while collecting points and gold with the tip of your sword!
Oh look, another game with "Pocket" in the title! This one is train-themed, and thus has fewer decapitations. (Hopefully.) The point of the pixelated Pocket Trains is to build and expand your railroad empire like a tiny Vanderbilt, but you'll also have to manage finances, fill jobs, and entertain your passengers. It's like a slice of Sim City on rails. Take note of the dual-currency IAP system - who knows how far your track will run before the grind sets in.
From the creators of Pocket Planes comes Pocket Trains! Manage and grow multiple railroads by hauling important cargo around the world. Collect parts to construct all the different train types from Steamers to Diesels, and complete daily events to unlock special trains beyond imagination! Stop reading and start constructing your railroad empire in Pocket Trains.
The Bejeweled match three style has been adapted into just about every game genre and situation, but I don't think I've seen a 10 Million BC version, so here ya go. The playing pieces are tiny cavemen and strategic structures that actively fight bad guys, giving the game a bit of a strategy vibe. The main campaign also includes plenty of opportunities to level up your pre-historic units, so expect at least some in-app purchase shenanigans.
Cavemania is a match-3 game with strategy… and dinosaurs! Help the Chieftain reunite his scattered tribe while battling fearsome foes. Features: Enjoy truly old-school Strategy. Lead your Tribe on a journey through prehistoric perils. Plan your strategy as you gather resources using familiar match-3 gameplay. Place units and buildings on the game board and use them to achieve victory! But choose wisely, because you’ll be fighting to survive against the elements and prehistoric foes.
Yeti on Furry
You're a yeti who finds the continued intrusion of mountain climbers abominable. So send those suckers tumbling down the hills with a selection of superpowers ranging from snowballs to sneezes. It's kind of like a reversal of the original Donkey Kong, where you play the enormous antagonist. Unfortunately it looks like Yeti On Furry (yes, Furry) is pretty heavy on the in-app purchases and social pushing.
Unleash the yeti’s fury on completely crazy climbers in a hilarious tower defense in 3D... and fur. Confront an onslaught of insane climbers - from the most stupid to the most vicious - all of whom have special tricks for reaching the top of the mountain: tunnels, ziplines, even teleporters! With simplified touch gameplay, use your incredible super powers to defend your lair from the climbers! Sneezing, triangle concert or the Yeti’s fist of vengeance: no holds barred!
Android Police coverage: Warner Bros Releases Quirky Guessing Game Heads Up! For Android
Remember that scene in the bar basement from Inglorious Basterds? This is that, without all the tension and murder. It's a party game played with smartphones instead of cards (in case you're short on 3x5's and a Sharpie) where you have to act out the word being displayed on the opposite player's screen, unbeknownst to them. It's just too bad that the themed decks run a buck a piece.
Heads Up. is the fun and hilarious new game that Ellen DeGeneres plays on her show -- and now you can play it with your friends. From naming celebrities, to singing, to silly accents -- guess the word on the card that’s on your head from your friends’ clues before the timer runs out.
- Play with one friend, or one hundred at the same time.
- Draw a new card simply by tilting your phone.
- Keep videos of your hilarious game play for your own amusement, or share them right to Facebook.
- Diverse categories let you challenge your smartypants friends, and entertain your kids for hours, all from one app.
Voxel Rush: Extreme Racer
"Minimal racer" is an odd description, but it fits Voxel Rush perfectly. You race in first-person perspective through a stark 3D landscape, getting as far as you can before crashing. Get far enough and the polygonal building will start collapsing Inception-style, forcing you to take more risks to stay alive. The neon color scheme and unts-unts-unts soundtrack should be music to the ears of indie gaming fans, and everyone else should find the exhilarating speed enough reason for a few rounds.
Superfast, minimalistic and extreme 3D racing experience. Accelerometer-controlled endless 3D racing game. Race through minimalistic landscapes. Avoid obstacles and don’t crash. Be fast, be aggressive, race like you know no fear. Get it now.
- Show off. Race close to obstacles to get more points
- The more aggressive your racing, the more combos you get
- Achievements and leaderboards (Google sign-in required)
- Use tons of upgrades, power-ups and modules to race even faster.
- Collect powerful boosters like Invulnerability
- Survive events like Total Collapse, Tunnel of Death or Pitch-black Night
- Enjoy stereoscopic 3D mode (glasses required)
This game is basically a tech demo for the cross-platform Unity engine, but it looks like a decent shoot-em-up as well. Gaming and graphical elements are taken liberally from the age when games were played a quarter at a time. You'll need twitchy reflexes and awesome situational awareness to make it through 150 waves of bad guys.
Old-school action meets dazzling graphic and energetic beats in Super Crossfire. Blast alien invaders while warping across the screen with an effortless tap. Unlock upgrades and acquire advanced power-ups as you seek to obliterate wave after wave of enemies. Boasting great replay value, intense action, and eye-popping visuals, Super Crossfire sets a new standard for arcade action.
As both Charlton Heston and Eddie Izzard can attest, things always go downhill after the monkeys find the guns. Jungle Rampage is a pretty basic shoot-em-up that combines Gun Bros with Ape Escape. You've got a collection of upgradeable weapons that can be dual-wielded, plus armor and various stat boosts. Gameplay and graphics are pretty basic, but you should be able to get a few minutes of damn dirty fun out of it.
Who's toughest, an angry gorilla with a machine gun or an army of cyborg chimps with lasers? There's only one way to find out... FIGHT! Your gorilla is on the rampage, hunting for gold and nothing is going to stop him.
- Lots of chimp busting weapons to enjoy
- Jump, dodge and destroy everything that moves
- Hunt for gold, guns, grenades, armour, anything you can find
- Different lands to conquer
- Discover secret bonus chambers full of goodies
This heart pumping, addicting game can be enjoyed in glorious HD and is brought to you by the Geek Beach team.
To my everlasting disappointment, this is not a trailer park-themed remake of Kill Bill. Nope, it's a 2D racer with a focus on stunts instead, though the basic sprite graphics gave a bit of charm to them. You'll need good timing and a fast run-up before you can land enough tricks to upgrade your ride. At the end of the road, you'll jump over the Grand Canyon, like the titular character's hero.
Hill Bill is a motorcycle trick jumping game starring a hillbilly with Evel aspirations. Play across 6 beautiful worlds and over 60 levels. Our hillbilly Bill dreams to be just like his idol Evel Knievel. With his trusty 3rd hand garage sale bike he sets up his very own ramps and starts riding. Soon he’s mastering jumps and tricks on bigger and bigger homemade ramps in his backyard. Bill then decides to take his show on the road. He ends up performing jumps and tricks at Mud Rallies, Race Tracks, and even the Circus.
DEER HUNTER 2014
Believe it or not, real deer hunting is incredibly boring. You wake up at about 3AM, drive for hours, sit in a box, and look through a scope at a few acres of trees hoping that some defenseless animal wanders into range. That's why the hunting games from Cabela's and the like have been throwing in exotic animals for a while now, and Glu (ever the original) has shamelessly ripped them off with Deer Hunter 2014. P.S. Don't use the Desert Eagle to hunt. That's just tacky.
Return to the wilderness in the most visually stunning FPS hunting simulator on Android! Travel from North America’s Pacific Northwest to the Savannah of Central Africa in an epic journey to hunt the world’s most exotic animals! Join your friends in global cooperative challenges where teamwork is critical. Work together to complete hunting objectives and collect rewards! Immerse yourself in diverse environments filled with over 100 animal species! Watch out for attacking predators including bears, wolves, and cheetahs! Hunting deer is just the beginning!
NFL Runner: Football Dash
If you're the kind of frothing, desperate football fan that has to have your favorite team logo shaved into your pet's fur, this is the Temple Run knockoff for you. As an Officially Licensed Game from The NFL(TM), it includes all the team logos and uniforms... and without the player's union it includes none of the actual team members, so you'll have to be satisfied with self-insert fantasy. The developer is Pocket Gems, so it should be marginally better than the typical licensed game.
Jump into the action and sprint into the endzone in this new endless runner brought to you by the NFL! Pick your team, test your reflexes and see how far you can run – dodge linemen, collect stars and power-ups, and upgrade your player's abilities. Compete with your friends to see who can get the furthest!
- Customize your player and choose to play as your favorite team
- Collect boosts and power ups to breeze by the defensive team
- Upgrade your player to jump longer, throw further, and collect faster
Really, HandyGames? I expected better of you. I guess the siren song (or possibly groan) of a pop culture positively dripping with undead was too much to resist. This one seems to be set in a Los Angeles simulacrum and stars a bunch of valley girls, but it's the same basic tower defense game you've played in the other Guns'n'Glory titles. If you've ever dreamed of playing as a zombie-hunting Stepford wife with a flower power rocket launcher, this is your game.
It’s finally going down! The Zombie Apocalypse is here and the dead are rising from their graves! Lock and load your weapons and face the undead hordes! You are the last line of defense and humanity’s last hope for survival against the deadly Z-Virus! When the dead walk the earth, there is only one thing left to do: grab the biggest and baddest weapons you can find and fight for your life! Fire up the chainsaw, refuel the flamethrower and show the rotten monsters that it’s a bad idea to shamble into your neighborhood! Just shoot ‘em all for fun and profit!
ReKillers : Zombie Defense
Top-down, dual-stick shooter. Free to play, grind or pay to win. Zombies. Need I say more? OK, Rekillers includes some decent 3D graphics and at least a few novel ideas with traps and super weapons, but putting zombies in a top-down, IAP-heavy shooter is still shortcode for creative bankruptcy.
Outbreak has just begun... Fears of infection have forced many to hide... Others, vowed to defend humanity against the undead... These brave defenders were dubbed ... "ReKillers" Take control of ReKillers, a ragtag band of defenders dedicated to protecting humanity in this unique blend of Tower Defense and Strategy gameplay. Survivors have sought refuge in a suburban mansion and it's up to the ReKillers to stop the invading Zombies.
Two Souls isn't even out yet, but it's already getting huge amounts of hype due to the developer (Quantic Dream, of Heavy Rain fame) and the involvement of relatively notably actors Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. This companion app bucks the trend by offering more than some multiplayer tracking or in-game upgrades... it actually controls the game when paired with a PlayStation 3. Wii U, eat your heart out.
Use the BEYOND Touch™ app to control your BEYOND: Two Souls™ game on PlayStation®3 system. The app can be used on Android™ devices to replace your wireless controller. All you’ll need is for your PlayStation®3 system to be on the same WiFi network as your Android™ device and you’ll be ready to play the game with touch controls. Please note: This app acts only as a controller. In order to play the BEYOND: Two Souls™ game, you will need a PlayStation®3 system and the game, purchased separately at any participating retailer.
WTF Game Of The Week
Popsicle Showdown (*FREE*)
Apps like this one make me glad that none of my friends or family members ever read any of the stuff that I write all day long.
Touching and holding the screen makes the girl's head go down. releasing the screen makes her head go up again. You need to find a good flow and balance to finish the ice-cream as fast as possible. When you start the game, you have a certain amount of time to eat as much of ice cream as possible. After you finished your first ice-cream the combo chain meter will start. On the top of the screen you will see "chain 1/5". Now you have to finish 4 more ice-creams and you have 5 seconds per ice-cream to keep the combo chain going.
