What kind of barbarian would take the living room tablet into the bedroom? Or the bedroom tablet into the den? Outrageous! You need to have a tablet for each room if you want to be a civilized human being. Sony gets that, which is why it has announced the Xperia Tablet Z Kitchen Edition. It's the regular Tablet Z, but with some cooking-oriented accessories (and a higher price tag).

Internally, this is the same Xperia Tablet Z we've seen before with a Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. The device is water-resistant, which does make a bit more sense for use in the kitchen. The Kitchen Edition tablet comes with a Bluetooth meat thermometer, a stand, and an assortment of cooking apps.

The Kitchen Edition tablet is on sale now through Sony's online store for $649.99. If you've got a big dinner party planned and need some tablet backup in the kitchen, the new Tablet Z leaves the warehouse in 1 business day and comes with free ground shipping.

I feel like this thing would really benefit from a front facing camera so you could use gestures to scroll and switch between recipes without touching it because cooking can often involving messy hands.

Ugh I use my Nexus 7 in the kitchen all the time but that's just silly. $650 will buy a decent laptop.

Or maybe a small touchscreen PC.

    About damn time.

  • Kenny O

Damn Sony, if you are going to try to trick me into buying a "kitchen tablet" at least give it a stainless steel look so it matches my other appliances.

  • Danny Davis

Whew, and to think for a moment I would have to take my N7 from the living room and place it on the Kitchen Counter. That would be absurd.

Sony chefs must be cooking something pretty intense in it's kitchen to require a Snapdragon S4 Pro chip with 2 gb RAM.

    • Andy Stetson

Gordon Ramsey style cooking! Of course, it would need a kids style bumper for when he hurls it at someone.

  • You Suck

Lame. My tablet is wireless (they all are), so when it take it into the kitchen it becomes the kitchen edition, and when I take it into the living room to watch tv, it becomes the living room edition.

So, can I play Fruit Ninja with an actual knife on that thing?

It should have some titanum scratch-resistant screen, so it could be used as a chopping board.

If this would have done samsung, everybody would be hatin on them

    • Steve Freeman

Huh? Everyone's already hating on this thing.

    • Danny Davis

In reality this is downgrading to Samsung market flooding level.
