Samsung took its time getting a Qi charger out the door, but they were finally available for purchase a few weeks ago. At $49.99 it was a reasonably good deal as far as wireless chargers go, but it didn't come with a wall charger to power the device. Now the Samsung Wireless Charging Pad includes the recommended 2A charger for $10 more, but that's not the best deal as it turns out.

Samsung lists the charger separately for $39.99, which is insane. So by that bizarre measure, this is a good deal. However, we've tried using this Qi device with a 1A charger and it was fine. Not to mention there are plenty of other 2A wall chargers that don't cost $40. But $10 isn't that bad, right? Well, it also blocks a really great coupon code.

Previously, buyers could use a 50% off Samsung accessory coupon to get the wireless charger for $25. That code only works on accessories priced under $50, which no longer includes the Wireless Charging Pad. In the screen above I added a cheaper accessory and the Qi charger. The coupon code was only applied to the cheap case. Maybe Samsung was selling too many wireless chargers at half price. They certainly fixed that problem.

Damn. Was actually thinking about getting it. But the nokia wireless charging pads had great reviews.

    • JT3

I actually have both (got two of these with the coupon before they added the charger). The Nokia ones are great. I especially love the DT-910, since there aren't that many inclined charging pads out there. Still, these Samsung pads charge quite a bit faster than the Nokia pads. On the flip side, though, the phone doesn't get nearly as hot with the Nokia pads.

      • JP

The Samsung one charges faster? Well thanks for giving me non-buyer's remorse =( lol

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Is it because the Samsung one uses a 2A charger? What does the Nokia one use?

        • JT3

Probably. The Nokia chargers use a proprietary charger and cable, so you have no choice in the matter. Their charger is only rated at 0.75A.

          • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Oh, wow, that's super low. Samsung has a leg up on this one, plus it lets you swap cables.

  • Ark

If you guys can find the anker one, get it. It's huge and really forgiving of how you drop your phone on it.

  • HellG

Samsung is really shameful when it comes to wireless charging, they can just integrate it in every phone just like every phone manufacturer, but they require you to buy a different cover with the coil in it for extra money, really disgusting

    • JP

From what I can tell, it's optional because it covers the battery, which people with removable backs can replace every now and then. Phones such as the N4 and Lumias don't have a removable back, so they can have wireless charging built-in.

      • Justin W

Yeah, but they can include it by default like the others do and still make boatloads of money, but instead they sell the backs separately at $20 or so per cover to make more money.

      • HellG

Which still doesn't change my point, they can include it in that removable cover! they just want to make more money for something so simple, which is a disgusting thing for a company that big, i have a note 2 and i hate the materials used in it, but i bear with it for the screen and the spen, but overall the phone is really cheap, which again proves my point about samsung.

        • Derail Doax

Most people won't use it even if it comes stock for free in the phone. So Samsung shouldn't waste their money putting it in every phone. If you don't like it there are plenty of phones that have it built in for you to buy. What do you think this is phone socialism? You curse Samsung's name because they do something that is fiscally responsible? Once more than 50% of the population would use the feature then they should put it in every phone. Until then they should just have optional back plate chargers.

          • Citizen

Yeh.. They have to be disgusting to become big inthe first place. That's business !!

  • jm9843

I was lucky enough to pick up two of the wireless chargers before they bundled the 2A cable. Two charging pads for $49.98 total after using the coupon code. I paired them with the following 2A charger: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005AWO8V0/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item

It works great with both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 (2013).

  • JT3

The code: STAQUA still works. It's only 25% off, but that's better than nothing.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

      Nice, thanks.

  • lensgrabber

Keep in mind that the Nokia wireless plate works fine with the N4 and N7 2013. ATT for $25

  • clay

this would be a great time to have a full write up on some Qi chargers, i still cant decide on which one to get.

    • nawa

Android Central did one about a month ago.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I got 3 Samsung ones when the 50% off was working, and they seem to work fine on both the N7 and the N4. Still waiting for Samsung to release the S4 Active back though.

  • Rob

Naturally savings are reduced to 18.5% after shipping is tacked on, since items below $49.99 do not ship free. ;)

  • Idon’t Know

Samsung sucks for so many reasons.

  • TeeJay1100

Samsung messed up a good thing. I'm glad I already bought one 3 weeks ago.

  • TransWarp

I was so excited yesterday when Samsung sent me an alert that the charging pad was back in stock! But that excitement died when I saw the 50% coupon code doesn't work on the $59.99 pad/charger bundle. I almost plunked down the $59.99 when decided to look through my browser history and found a link that I was able to manipulate. Presto! I was able to add the "old" pad without cable into my cart! The coupon code works (too bad the 2A charger is out of stock) and my order was processed. Here is the link...don't post it everywhere...it's our little secret :) It was working as of 5:30pm EDT today.

    • Alan

What was the total of your order?

      • TransWarp

        I ordered 3 to get the free UPS shipping. ($24.99 x 3) + ($4.69 tax) = $79.66

    • Impulse

Brilliant find, I was able to order it using your link too, came out to $29 with shipping to Puerto Rico (USPS). Kinda kicking myself for ordering the LG one for $50 off Amazon yesterday but whatever, I'll test both and maybe regift one.

    • Jason

Back in stock! Just ordered on.
